The Eurovision 2022 announcements keep coming, and now it’s time for Greece’s Amanda Tenfjord to present her entry for the contest, “Die Together”.
The song was premiered on broadcaster ERT’s show Studio 4.
Amanda Tenfjord releases Eurovision 2022 song “Die Together”
“Die Together” is an atmospheric ballad. Starting off softly with Amanda’s vocals over minimal production, the song then builds into the second chorus as the emotion hits home.
Amanda sings about a dying relationship. However, she wonders about the possibility of parting this life at the same time as her loved one. This would mean they get to be with each other until the very end, as she sings in the chorus:
“But if we die together now / We will always have each other / I won’t lose you for another / And if we die / together now / I will hold you until forever”
Amanda Tenfjord – “Die Together” (Greece Eurovision 2022)
The music video for “Die Together” features Amanda in a town on the island of Symi.
The singer is joined by her lover. Although they arrive in the town on the same boat, the pair seem to say their goodbyes on top of a hill before Amanda’s partner heads back to the boat on his own.
Who is Amanda Tenfjord?
Amanda — real name Amanda Georgiadis — is half Norwegian and half Greek. She mixes modern pop, folk, electronic and ambient in magical ways, delivering something distinctly polished with Nordic flair. You can hear that clearly on her debut EP First Impression, which showcases her raw talent in a beautiful way.
Until recently she was more focused on her studies to become a doctor than music.
Her web site explains a bit more: “While studying medicine, she continued to write music and enter music contests, and it was for fun that she decided to sign up for a showcase festival in Trondheim, where she caught the eye of a record label and, just like that, she was signed.”
The 24-year-old, was internally selected by broadcaster ERT after choosing between five finalists.
What do you think of Amanda Tenfjord’s Eurovision 2022 entry “Die Together”? How will Greece do at the contest? Let us know in the comments below.
Boring and mediocre song, a little bit overrated. but the Island of Simy is nice place to visit 🙂
Paradise by Coldplay all over this song. Pity.
I wonder how this will be staged? Is my winner entry so i hope they go for simplicity and beauty and emotions
Don’t get the fuss about the Greek entry … it’s meh … in my opinion … gerneric and bland!
I share your opinion
Serious question: the sound effect they use in her voice from the beginning until 1:10… is it allowed in the contest? Because I think it goes beyond the idea of harmony or second voice, it’s a full pitch change to simulate a robotic effect. Asking because I think the effect is really important in that part of the song, and losing it would be a big thing.
Vocoder is not the same as autotune. As far as I know there is no pitch correction using a Vocoder and that’s what they use here. It has been used previously by Denmark, winner of the contest in 2000 although in a milder form. We’ll have to wait and see how they will do it live.
This has really surprised me. As someone who hasn’t been connecting with the Greek entries of the past few years, I’m pleasantly surprised that I really like what I’m hearing. The production is crisp and clear, the song is quality, although the slight voice distortion at the beginning is a little off putting, I can forgive that. The song has an identity, it knows what it needs to achieve and it does that perfectly. I understand that 2022 is a middle of the road, ballad heavy year, but this is one of the better slower offerings. For me it goes… Read more »
The best greek entry in years. For someone who complains that il lacks of ethnic elements (just usually like me), there´s also still Cyprus…
Greece gets 9 out of 12 points and currently 9th place in my list.
Good luck ! Amanda seems to be very professional.
Not for me, sorry.
Nice song, but it does nothing to me – does not stick to your head so the staging will play a big role here. It has some potential but it’s not a big ballad.
Greece please send a song in Greek next time…
Why not ? Next time in Greek.
Wow Greece what you have done to me.. You took me on a journey of pain, nostalgia and led me to a waterfall of pure emotions.. I am actually quite speechless as I wasn’t expecting this.. Such a powerful, internal and meaningful entry from Greece. If it is staged right, this is one to watch out for sure.. This can be a moment.. Well done Greece.. My top song so far!!!
It’s a really good song which will do it well in Eurovision! But at the same time if you dig into the song is co-written and produced by an Norwegian (maybe mixed by one from the netherlands as well and with a Scandinavian touch on the music video), so for me this song doesn’t reflect much of Greece in it tbh. But I really like the song and I think most of us can relate in one or another way…
Quite funny that the video was recorded in the island of Symi in Greece but the atmosphere and the colours of the videoclip bring you to a fjord in Norway! The song is not outstanding but considering the average quality of the contestants these year it is definitely among the best ones of the competition. If the Greek team don’t ruin everything with the staging as they usually do, this can ends up in top3 (I guess the trophy is already in the hands of Ukraine if they manage to participate). Still waiting and begging for a Greek act in… Read more »
sounds like a billie eilish b-side.
Another horror show here. Just takes too long to get going, and when it does , not very interesting. I doubt this will reach the final.
Greece is falling in the odds. I think it will fall further if not the staging or her performance is something extra. The song in itself is kind if weak. From yesterday releases Britain was by far the best. I think it might be a winner.
I have no doubts.
If the UK or Germany would send this song, most people would put this at the bottom. It’s not a bad song, but I don’t get the hyoe.
good job nicky would have done better job. This is decent but too bland. Also what’s wrong with ERT for not choosing prominent Greek “native” artists most of which have “emigrated” to RIK (Cyprus). See Foureira, Tamta.
It’s hilarious when you mention Foureira (she is Albanian) and Tamta (she is Georgian) as Greek natives! Congratulations to ERT that gives the opportunity to talented young Greek artist of diaspora as Amanda, Stefania, Kalomoira, Helena 😉
One of the few entries this year where the lyrics really made me pay attention to them, hope she can pull this off live because the Greeks have really got something to work with this year…
The greek song is almost plagiarism. Listen to the original song: Hide And Seek from Imogen Heap -=> https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=UYIAfiVGluk
Plagiarism? For using vocoder? You get the prize for the dumbest hate comment. So far at least
I mean it’s pretty clearly plagiarism. Every song made ever that came after the first ever song is plagiarised because it has music.
I’m patiently waiting for you to discover Cher’s discography lmao
its so so so different genre of music, die together is epic , well done
Omg, Its the same song?
Lots of big emotional ballads this year and we know this can course good songs to cancel each other out on voters choice. (last year it was the dance songs that paid the price) but really this Lorde look alike is her song really better than Italy or Poland this year to warrant the review reaction ive just watched. Personal choice they are better as are others of similar type ahead of, sorry Greece. I will await the staging now.
Off topic does Deban work or broadcast from a bus depot or just live on a really good bus route!
I will always prefer this kind of laid back sad/nostalgic songs to those pretentious artificial uptempo songs Greece or Cyprus have been going for. I like that they are not going either for the Victoria kind of Billie Eilish vibe this type of relaxed and fragile songs are turning into. Her voice is very likeable too.
A pretty solid attempt that will obviously make it to the final given the low level of the 1st SF.
I have to say, though, that out of the female soloists with laid back and sad songs I prefer S10 from The Netherlands.
eh? …Not of fan of whatever vocal effect is going on in the first bit of the song. The second bit is OKAY but that beginning where it’s just the weird vocals effect with the lack of instrumental kind of ruins it for me.
Actually the robotic voice effect is what drag my attention first. And I like how the voice becomes super smooth gradually.
Repetitive & unoriginal
Like a song that would be played on Top 40 adult contemporary chart many years ago.
It’s pretty bland and it takes forever to build up.
At least it builds up and reaches something, the same can’t be said about other songs this year xd
an unfortunate song title given the situation in europe at the moment.
but its a song i started of not liking but then seeing potential by the end of it.
I just listened one time and I liked it. I think it’s gonna be a grower in me on repeat and I’ll love it
My new favourite this year!!! I can see this easily scoring in the top 5 of the jury vote and ending up in the top 10 overall! I’m so happy that 10th place wasn’t enough for Greece and that they’re trying to get an even better result this year! Good luck Greece!
I’m also surprised by the reaction video, especially when compared to others. William’s insight is always a pleasure to hear, though. I do not get the hype, and I don’t find this entry outstanding, especially among others, but music strikes different chords in everyone.
It might grow on me, indeed, mysterious replier. 😉 And I’ll be pleased to feel differently after a few listens. I guess I’m longing to eventually be struck from the start, to have an impactful song right away: in a nutshell, chills and love at first listen, like “Arcade” or “Voilà (or, to go further back in time, “Love shine a light”, “Lane moje”, “Molitva”…).
Putting aside our reactions to the Greek entry, I think the conversation you’re having says a lot about 2022’s class. We don’t have an obvious instant winner and I understand it bothers those who go through selection phase trying to find one, but I say there’s a large bunch of entries that for now give a 3rd to 10th place vibe) that can grow to become Eurovision classics with the right live performance. This will make the competition interesting.
Very interesting, and clever, analysis. I like the expression you’ve coined: a “foureira year”. I relate to your insight.
It kinda drags. Interesting choices from Cyprus and now Greece — feels closest to Better Love which qualified easily but then was bottom 5 in Final. It’s always easy when you start the final with 24 points on the board which accounted for more than 1/3 of Better Love’s points.
Totally ok to consider the song generic, but expecting from Greece to bring something ethnic and base a negative critique on that is unfair. Greece’s two non qualifications came with their most ethnic songs recently ( Argo and Yanna Terzi ), you cant blame them for trying to stay away for a while and trying to appeal more to the juries.
Also, eurofans be like: we want ethnic from Greece, Azerbaijan, Moldova etc, give us ethnic, we need ethnic, then totally forget voting for ethnic entries and vote for clean english pop entries lol
no one was expecting ethnic from this norwegian girlie lol
greece has completely lost its identity at esc. i hope the greeks get properly represented again soon
This comment is silly. Europeans really think that all that greeks listen to is OPA songs and they break dishes on their floors.
Why should this only apply to Greece? Have Sweden send a song in swedish with traditional music. Have Ireland send a folk song. Have Germany send a metal song in german.
Every country has ethnic musical elements, lets cancel them all and allow english pop to UK only.
But no, right? Any country can send english pop apart from Greece and Azerbaijan, those two should always give us something ethnic.
I agree with everything you said except the last part. There’s more to “ethnic music” than just Greece and Azerbaijan.
Likewise there’s more to the UK than just English pop.
Yeah but eurofans are obsessed with getting ethnic from those 2 countries.
and who talked about ethnic stuff ? there’s zero hype for this girl in greece. ert could easily send a big name in greece that people would back but instead went fish this unknown girl from norway lol
A completely unimportant observation, but doesn’t she look like Lorde?
I actually clicked on a Lorde recommended tab on Spotify cause I thought it was Amanda and that her song dropped there as well.
I totally don’t get the hype. It is a nice ballad, the final part is really good but the first 90 seconds are rather dull.
Objectively this a a great song, the build up is breathtaking and emotions feel real. However the first slow part takes too much time – at least for me. My attention span isn’t that short, but I know most people will zone out by that point.
Valid point but we cant be sure until we see the staging. Lets remember that Fokas Evaggelinos is staging this, the one who did Last Dance last year. We can expect anything lol
True – good staging can do a lot, though this song just needs something to intrigue the audience in the first minute, since then it captures attention pretty easily.
Wow… I’m quite speechless. It’s gorgeous. This goes straight into my top 3. Well done Greece, it’s fantastic!
Big competitor for my own country’s entry… But I believe that there will be room for both Amanda and S10 in Turin. And for people who worry about this on stage: I don’t know how well she sings live, but this can be absolutely magical. Wow, Greece!
So this proves that the bookies know more than the mere mortals. It is explained that it was so high in the odds and rightly so, as this is obviously top 5 material. Another good addition for this year. Just a pity that this such this prediction is so Hellenic…
There was a leaked demo going on for a few weeks though. I haven’t listened to it, but I read some positive comments, which may indicate why the odds reacted earlier (and possibly also why some people got disappointed, since maybe their expectations were too high). I’m very satisfied with it, it went how I was expecting from Amanda.
Mykonos 2023! Kalimera honeyyyyyyyy!
Highly doubtful, but you keep dreaming!
The song itself is pretty decent, but is for Eurovision though?
Not sure why everyone is so hyped about it, I am not. It’s an ordinary song for me, nothing special. Ranks 11-20 I guess.
This is metallic, contemporary, urban yet so authentic, pure quality. Greece is slaying and why not this can even win it all
Personally I liked Stefania’s song much more then this one.
probably because Amanda’s English isn’t that well and that is annoying. Why didn’t she sing this in Greek?
I say this i objectively one of the best tracks of the 2022’s class, but at the same it’s a tricky one to make work in Eurovision. It builds up naturally, the lyrics are touching and that bridge is gorgeous. But I imagine the first minute (almost fully stripped down) will be a challenge to stage without losing people with shorter attention span. The voice modification (autotune? vocoder?) was unnecessary and this may sound even better live just like “Brividi” or “De Diepte”. Well done, Greece, this is a classy entry!
This is a weird song, sounds good, catchy also, but so psychiactric hospital vibes. Vulnerability in the song? Powerfull? Nope, it must have limits and it is not even normal. If we die together, we will always have each other and i won’t loose you for another?? Potential stalker lyrics
Amanda is not “half” Greek, though. She’s Greek. She’s also Norwegian.
You must be newbie. Theres nothing definite in Eurovision so early. We need to see staging and live performance. This reminds me when i was hearing the similar comments for Sennek – A Matter Of Time and Roxen – Amnesia and then they didnt even end up in the final after their performances.
WAOUH !! Greece is fantastic this year !!!
Top 3/5 for the jury and the winner of ESC 2022 ? Maybe !!
For me, its a very good song, beautiful voice and the atmosphere of the song is soothing yet powerful ! I love it !!
Wow, these lyrics are so dark. It’s a lovely track but it does make me feel a little uncomfortable.
This year has like 17 Victoria’s
While we were all expecting 17 Blind Channels 🙂
And we literally got only 1, from the same country as last year. :’)
And only Bulgaria came close to sending a Blind Channel and not a Victoria! 😀
I’m so unbelievably proud and excited! We are really contenders for real!!!!!
