Mark your calendars. Germany is ready to decide its next Eurovision Song Contest superstar, and we’ve finally got a date for the diary. Unser Lied für Liverpool will hit TV screens on Friday 3 March 2023.

German television personality Barbara Schöneberger will present the show live from Cologne — its new host city after last year’s selection was held in the capital Berlin.

Broadcaster NDR has confirmed they will “celebrate diversity” with the Unser Lied für Liverpool lineup, responding to criticism of having too many “radio-friendly” tracks in last year’s selection.

Germany Eurovision 2023: Unser Lied für Liverpool takes place on Friday 3 March

Cologne will host Unser Lied für Liverpool at MMC Studios, home of The Masked Singer and German Idol variant Deutschland sucht den Superstar.

Several acts will compete for the crown at Unser Lied für Liverpool. The winner will represent Germany at Eurovision 2023 in the United Kingdom.

The artists and songs competing in the selection are yet to be confirmed. However, previous years indicate we can expect to see somewhere between eight and 10 acts in the final.

To choose the finalists, German broadcaster NDR is working together with several national music experts as well as international Eurovision experts. After criticism about only choosing “radio-friendly songs” in 2022, NDR promised that this year, they want to celebrate diversity as we did back in 2017 in Kyiv.

Additionally, at least one of the acts will come from the so-called “TikTok Ticket” selection. From 27 January to 3 February, the German public can vote for its favourite TikTok act. Then, the most popular act will make it through to the show.

On 4 February, Alina Stiegler and Stefan Spiegal will present the result of the TikTok vote in a new show Alles Eurovision. The show will be streamed live online at 18:00 CET.

Unser Lied für Liverpool airs at 22:40 CET on Friday 3 March.

They were so good in 2020 with Ben Dolic and in 2018 with Michael Schulte… What happened to you, Germany? Why are you so desperate to take the Bottom-5 spot?

Decency. Lack of public transport. Plus you’d need to pay me more to sing that late. 😀

As a German I have Hope For My Home Country. I want to see Germany in 11th or 15th place.
