Latvia: Dons is our readers’ favourite to win Supernova 2024 with “Hollow”

Saturday is the day! This weekend, Latvia begins the search for their next Supernova, when the semi-final of their Eurovision 2024 national selection kicks off in Riga. A total of 15 acts will battle it out for ten spots in next week’s grand final.

Ahead of the show, we ran a poll asking you to vote for your favourite(s). And after counting 1,121 votes, the results are in and we’re ready to crown your winner.

Dons is a favourite to win Supernova 2024

It seems like a no-brainer in Latvia’s Eurovision selection. Dons’s “Hollow” has won our poll with the vast majority of votes going in his favour. The piano-driven ballad picked up 577 votes – or over 50% of all those cast.

The singer – whose real name is Arturs Šingirejs – is one of the biggest names in Latvia’s music scene. Known for his husky and soulful voice, Dons has been awarded the most played song by Latvija Radio’s Musical Bank on seven occasions.

As he sings “Yeah, I’d rather let them dig my grave shallow / Instead of selling out to something so hollow, hollow“, we get the message of a singer trying to find his identity in this world.

If there was a surprise turn of events on the night, could Latvia’s public be meowing along to “The Cat’s Song“? Katrina Gupalo and her flirty entry have earned a distant second place in our poll, with 108 votes (9.63% votes cast).

Taking the bronze medal is duo Vēstules with “kur?”. They picked up a total of 83 votes.

Coming in the fourth spot of our poll is Triana Park’s very own Agnese Rakovska and her song “AI”. The Eurovision 2017 star received 73 votes (6.51%).
