It’s week 2 of Melodifestivalen 2024 and we have moved up north along the west coast of Sweden to arrive in Gothenburg, where heat 2 will take place in Scandinavium on Saturday. The six week Melfest tour of six Swedish cities will eventually decide, who will represent Sweden on home soil in Malmö in May.

The 30 second rehearsal snippets are out for watching now, which means it’s time for one thing: To name your favourite.

Click on the artist’s song title below to watch their snippet. Then vote in our poll. You can vote for as many artists as you’d like, but you can only vote one time. Be sure to tick the box next to each act you want to support.

Format of Melodifestivalen 2024

30 acts participate in Melfest 2024 split into 5 heats of six acts each. The number 1 and 2 placed acts from each heat qualify directly to the grand final in Stockholm and the two lowest placed acts are finished in the competition. This make up for the first 10 acts qualifying for the grand final

Number 3 and 4 of each heat will have their fate decided in a Final Qualification held in connection with heat 5. The 10 songs in all will compete for 2 tickets to the grand final decided by the percentage of votes each entry got in their heat plus the amount of votes they get in the Final Qualification.

12 songs compete in the Grand Final of Melodifestivalen held in Friends Arena in Stockholm on 9 March.

Melodifestivalen is hosted by Carina Berg.

Who is your favourite in this heat? Are any of these acts the one you want to see go all the way to Eurovision? Let us know in the comments below.

Haha.. like much has happened on the music scene these past two years! Then it’s pretty fresh then. It’s not like there is any revolutionary in other national selections. But I understand, Sweden has another level of expectations than others. And it’s justified.

The ones going forward are quite clear, and so are those who won’t be going anywhere but home.

In: LIAMOO, Maria Sur, Fröken Snusk, Dear Sara

Out: C-Joe, Engmans Kapell

Still no standouts, lyrical content is very slim and picked to the bone. If this Deltävling would be a plate of food, it would have just canned meat (not heated).

Based on the snippets this semi is by far better than the 1st one. It’s Maria Sur and Engmans Kapell for me, but C-Joe and Dear Sara also seems to have good songs. But I don’t see Engmans Kapell progress to the final because Swedes don’t have the balls to send songs frbased on the nations musical heritage to the MF final. Melina Borglowe finishing rock bottom last time out with such a beautiful song is a clear indication of that. Sad, because my neighbouring country (I’m Norwegian) has a rich musical heritage that should be represented in the MF… Read more »

Probably the worst semi final in the history of Melodifestivalen. ‘When I’m Gone’ has a bit of potential.

It’s official, Serbia has the best song in the preselection season 2024. 🙂

The 2nd filler heat in a row…The big favs in the last two heats should deliver.
I’m waiting for Medina personally.

Yep, we all know it’s unlikely that anyone from heat 1-3 is going to win, so these heats feel a bit pointless. I think Danny is going to win it all with Marcus & Martinus as the biggest threat, or possibly Medina if Sweden dares to send something like that. They’ve been given the best heats and places in the running order, so they’re what the producers want at least. Same every year. Unless one of the newcomers surprises us like Cornelia did.

For sure, Maria Sur! Then Liamoo
Third/Fourth Fröken Snusk and Dear Sara

I am actually quite excited about this heat. I enjoyed 4 of the snippets more than any of the songs from the first heat, there seems to be some really good options here.

Liamoo, because his smile will be more important than the song.

I’m really liking the non-pop entries in this semi. Dear Sara is cute and C-Joe was a bit different. Also, the band wasn’t too bad! Maybe it’s just my pallette has changed for music and average pop isn’t good enough anymore? I like Dragon but I prefer the hook from Bluffin and it feels like it’s gonna weigh a lot on Liamoo’s vocals. Maria Sur though has definitely had a glow up! She could definitely do better this year. However, the dark horse of this heat is Froken. First of all, their look is iconic. Second, their song sounds completely… Read more »

Fröken Snusk is the daughter of Lordi (Finland 2006) and her brothers are Wolfbanana Boys (Norway 202?).
Mom is unknown for me

A much stronger heat than the first based on the snippets . My favourite is Maria Sur then Liamoo. I also find it funny that so many in the comments say awful things when if Maria was in Ukraines selection with this and it was written by anyone but Anderz and Jimmy everyone would lap it up like thirsty kittens and call it a bop and yell slay (but I do wonder what the drop will be like as it will make or break the song).

Liamoo the obviously winner here, no doubt.
Then it’s hard to pick second finalist but I go out and say Fröken Snusk second finalist. She has publicity around her..
Number 3 and 4 is Maria Sur and Dear Sara.
Though it is unfair to judge on snippets, they tell you nothing. SVT should either publish entire songs or nothing

I’m not so sure about Liamoo. He tries too hard in my opinion. And the song sounds like one of Nano’s songs. My gueass is that Liamoo and Maria will go to the final based on songs and photos of rehearsals of them both. The question is who will be first? Fröken Snusk will be 3rd I think, or 4th. Her song is not for people over 30.

Liamoo’s last song was MUCH better. This song feels like it could fit into a modern Dungeons and Dragons movie and NOT in the good way I was hoping for.

I still think he will be the winner of the heat, because I see potential in it.
And Fröken Snusk has the hype and publicity so I think she can make it.

The silence after you seems nice and at least a little creative so it probably has no chance. Maria Sur’s song basically sounds like Austria 2024 and even has the word rave in it. That’s what happens when you just buy stuff from Jimmy Joker and I find it really sad that a country would settle to send sth anonymous that could be in any Melodifestivalen heat.

that doesn’t tell us much. Beyoncé is known to change two words in a song and insist on being credited as a songwriter for it.

Composers: Anderz Wrethov, Jimmy “Joker” Thörnfeldt, Julie “Kill J” Aagaard, Maria Sur. Yes, that truly looks and sounds like deeply personal work.

Liamoo has the same songwriters and listening to him talk about the songwriting camp and process it sounds like most of the actual work is done by the others. He spoke about bringing the idea and having the vision, I imagine she did the same at most. I’ve heard talk about her having an idea about how she wanted this entry to be very different stylistically from last year and a bit more her, but I don’t think that equates to being involved heavily in writing the lyrics and music.

Really struggling to see the similarity with Kaleen’s leaked entry. We Will Rave seems to be a much more straight-up rave song, Maria’s snippet feels much more like pop – it’s really hard to tell from one minute but there is very little electronica that I would associate with rave in Maria’s track. I really hope there is but Sweden has a habit of promising something in the snippet which is never delivered in the full song.
