How is Sweden bringing glam to Eurovision 2024? Every way that they can! And that starts with the revelation that Eurovision 2003 winner Sertab Erener is performing in the Semi-Final 2 interval in Malmö.

Eurovision 2024: Semi-Final interval acts

The Turkish superstar will perform in a sing-along, where the audience will be invited to sing-along with three past winners. Beyond the “Every Way That I Can” hitmaker, the singalong will include Eurovision 2005 winner Helena Paparizou, who won for Greece but was born in Sweden. And Charlotte Perrelli, who won Eurovision in 1999 — exactly 25 years ago — with “Take Me To Your Heaven.”

Both Helena and Charlotte have stayed active within Eurovision circles since their win. Helena performed as an interval act at Melodifestivalen in 2006 and 2012, and she returned as a competitor in 2014 with the song “Survivor” finishing fourth.

Charlotte competed at Eurovision again in 2008 with “Hero.” And outside of this she hosted Melodifestivalen in 2003 and 2004, and she competed again in 2012 and 2021. Most recently she hosted Eurovision in Concert in Amsterdam.

So what about Semi-Final 1? Well that honour goes to Sweden’s Eurovision 2018 singer Benjamin Ingrosso, who used to be Charlotte Perrelli’s stepson!

“After I got to represent Sweden at Eurovision in 2018, it now feels great to be able to show the audience who I am today,” he said in a statement. “It has been fantastic to meet all the fans on my tour in Europe during the spring and now I hope that the Eurovision audience will love this show as much as I do.”

According to the EBU, a total of 21 people will take to the stage during a Benjamin-led “super medley.”

“Together with the band, the dancers, the lights, the image production and specially constructed videos in the background, Benjamin has planned a television number of the highest international class.”

Sertab! Yes! That will be iconic. But Benjamin Ingrosso…. Really??

Benjamin is an odd choice. I know he has been very popular commercially speaking but he’s not a memorable Eurovision star.

Sertab OMGGG what a comeback. Her last time in ESC event was at Congratulations show in Copenhagen 2005! her song is iconic!

Not in Sweden. Benjamin is one if the most popular and gifted artists in Sweden today. It was absultely not deserved what happend to him in at Eurovision. He is especially liked for his live performances and charisma.

But TRT and Erdogan hate Eurovision. Some fans need to realise EBU would love to have back Turkey (for financial reasons) but Erdogan’s regime hate fun pop contests like Eurovision.

Benjamin Ingrosso is of course a bit strange choice, even if he has changed his style and even if he is doing well on the charts in the UK.
It’s a bit odd to have him with Sertab. I mean, he only sang for Sweden once, it wasn’t one of Sweden’s most memorable songs, why should he share the same stage with the winners? they had a serious contribution to the contest, they won.

I’m so happy La Perrelli will be there. 24 years later, and I’m still not over her missing the Stockholm contest after her own victory. Such an injustice!

Do we know for sure why she wasn’t there? I read that she fell out with SVT

Yeah, she wanted to perform a song from her new album… svt said no. She refused to hand out the trophy as a result.

I believe she said: “I will not be a flower girl”. Love this comment, whether it’s true or not.

He is on a European tour right now and has a number 1 single on the charts, his first number one.
He has a much more grown up varied style now

He came 7th in ESC and whilst Benjamin has achieved many chart hits in Sweden, he’s had zero success outside of it. There are many more deserving former ESC winners who should have been invited.

They have probably asked more winners but seeing the huge threats against this years competition many have probably boycotted it.

Benjamin is basically the only Swedish artist who had some stable career and real success outside Melfest/Eurovision bubble.

Although Benjamin Ingrosso is not my personal favourite either, at least he is a former participant – not like Mika, Madcon and Morten Harket and all these other artists who will never deign to participate but happily will use the Eurovision stage to promote themselves.

He has just collaborated with Olly Alexander on his latest single. Also in UK at the weekend he featured heavily on what was initially about ABBA but moved into the writers and producers of Swedish music across Europe since the 1990’s to date.

I thought he came across really well on that show. And there have been worse entries than Dance You Off. First time also to see that Jimmy Joker person and Joy Deb.

Agree. The hidden faces behind the hits. It was a good show. The other good one which is similar is on BBC i player something titled Swedish flat pack music.

Helena, one of my childhood fave winners besides Ruslana, i was bopping so much to My Number One

really wish SVT had done more to celebrate herreys 40th anniversary of diggi-loo diggi-ley (such a fabulous song in my opinion)

would’ve also loved a One More Time reunion for another performance of ”Den Vilda” one of my all time fave swedish entries

I think Den Vilda “won” that qualifying contest in 1996. Malta 2nd and Germany “NQ” which is why we now have the Big 5.

Sadly no mention of the Swedish band we all want to see united again on stage all these decades after their iconic win. Couldn’t SVT have tried harder to get Herreys to make an appearance?

This is only for the semis!

The Herrey brothers will no doubt get prime billing for the final. Rumours suggest that ABBA will reunite to perform a Herreys medley.

Perelli was not his stepmother but his aunt. She was married to his uncle, before he cheated on her. Which she found out the day of the ESC final 2008, which in hindsight explain some of that performance.
But that is a great line up, looking forward to all..

Looking forward to the sing-a-long, that could be fun.

Benjamin Ingrosso, however, is someone I didn’t really need to see on the eurovision stage ever again, I… definitely was not fond of Dance You Off :/
