Day 6 of rehearsals for Eurovision 2024 is a funky one.
To begin with, we’ll continue on with the second rehearsals for nine acts from semi-final 2. Like on Wednesday, the EBU will release photos and 30-second teasers in a roundup on YouTube, though individual broadcasters may decide to share them on social media earlier.
To end the day, it’s the turn of the automatic qualifiers to have their first rehearsals. For these, we return back to the mixture of photos and a behind the scenes TikTok video.
We’ll try to update this post as things drop. Regardless, please share your thoughts in the comments section throughout the day!

Where do people see the class in Angelina’s staging? It looks tacky… I started to think it was my fault not “getting” how brilliant the song is, but at this point, everything she is doing is commended here as if she was the 80s Madonna.
I agree. I am not a fan of the song, still I appreciated Angelina’s singing style and sass attitude + outfit / staging at the San Remo festival. They suited the message of the song superbly and the focus was on Angelina. Now all the visuals, and pyros, and dancers in tacky outfits are not only unnecessary but they steal from the attractiveness of the entry. I can see no upgrade, rather the entry becoming more messy.
Angelina is fantastic and could win. Top 3 in juries and televote could do it.
Ive really enjoyed all 6 pre qualifiers.
I think Italy has a good chance to get high points from the juries and from the public; as long as camera shots are also good 🙂
My favourites are Italy and Croatia; Switzerland aka Pink Panther doesnt deserve top5 result.
Agree with you
So far, I really liked Italy’s staging and based on the snippet; they took it seriously; there are also fireworks ?
Am I the only one who isn’t into Italy’s staging at all? It’s so busy with textures and everything just gets completely lost in the mess of details. ?
And I absolutely adore this song and want it to do well.
I’m not sure about this at all. I’m hoping it will all come together and we just don’t see it yet.
Me too! ?
I was really surprise with Italy; that looks really good and coherent with the song ? This song grew on me and it is one of the best stagings so far.
From the big 5 i love UK’s performance. Looks like a videoclip. Very cool. Italy is my biggest dissappointment . Ugly clothes and the colors dont seem to match the light and fun song. We are not going back to Italy for sure.
I wouldn’t call it ugly. Maybe it’s just not your taste. I find it quite fashionable and sexy. But hey, we all have different opinions i guess
Sorry but i find them ugly. Italy can do so much better, They are also known for their fashion. But this aint it. But indeed, its just an opinion. Who cares 😉
So far, I really liked Italy, Croatia and Greece’s stagings; especially Italy didn’t disappoint me 🙂
I believe that Angelina has destroyed her chances to win with the juries. Her erotic stage performance looks great, but it’s out of place here and could make her song look somewhat cheap.
Juries sure didn’t mind Chanel being erotic.
Chanel had a completely different type of song. I’m not sure if Angelina would have won San Remo, if her performance had looked like that.
Classy and erotic are not mutually exclusive!
Aiko says hello
How so? Did you watch the snippet? She’ll get jury votes just for her tremendous acapella towards the end
I get Germany’s staging. I like it. A great analogy for life and how it can take a sudden turn.
He’s sitting at home, comfortable and happy… he throws a cigarette butt into the trash can and turns his gaze back to the television. Before he realises what’s happening, his whole apartment is aflame and soon burnt to the ground.
Sounds traumatic!
Maybe we should start a gofundme for him.
I’ll chip in. I like Isaak, he’s got kind eyes
Now that the first part of today’s rehearsals is out, let me recap my way Malta >> It’s not bad; it could qualify, but the song is so generic, and the performance/staging, although good, is not authentic or original enough. Albania >> This is not going anywhere. The chorus is not bad, but the whole song is not competitive enough. NQ Greece >> a bit disappointed by the clip. Let’s wait and see.Q Switzerland >> flawless. The staging is awesome, the song is awesome, and his performance and professionalism are supreme. He performs so smoothly and elegantly while signaling dynamism.… Read more »
Switzerland is a generic pop song in english that have nothing to do with the representing country. No winner vibes. NO Greece is much better and is representing Greece
Don’t you like the Swiss entry Ania?
Can you elaborate? I don’t quite understand your point.
From the Swiss song you can’t guess that it’s Swiss, just pop in English
Only a few songs have a clear ethnic sound that helps you understand the country they represent.
I’m sorry to say this, but France takes the crown for the most pretentious act this year. Ok , we get it, you can sing. That moving away from mic is such a show of, it leaves me totally flat for his objectively good vocals. This is actually my biggest drop on my list bcs of performer. I believe he is a good person, but that just screams cocky and over the top. Excuse me French fans, don’t take it personally.
Never liked the song, another cliche French entry. And like you, didn’t like his attitude in that snippet video, giving off La Zarra vibes
Take solace in Spain’s bum cheeks x
Their presence has yet to be confirmed….
Unfortunately, they are there
Let the bells ring out!
YAYYYYY
The two dancers appear to be wearing tights in the pictures. Maybe to dial it down a little. Actual cheeks have yet to be spotted, but the search is ongoing. Updates on later bulletins.
Burn the tights !
Spain never disappoints :))))
Spanish rosebuds 😉
I love the song but do find the constant hand gestures distracting. I also worry he is over-emoting to the point of aggression. Tone it down a bit, reel it in… and things will turn out so much better.
I despise overdramatized performances. Passion is one thing, overdramatized things are another and clearly not my cuppa.
Just watched wiwi blogg review of UK. Simon mentions Iceland 97 Paul Oscar comparing Olly staging and how Paul was ahead of his time but finished 19th. What Simon failed to mention in 97 televoting was only available to a limited number of countries and that is were Paul got the majority of his points from. Absolute classic Iceland 97 and one of my favorite stagings
I love that Simon brought him up though. Btw I really like how Simon articulates his thoughts
Good job Italy. But not a winner. Top 5.
So you think Ukraine’s boring song should win?
No absolutely not! I’m more into Switzerland.
Italy won San Remo and the Swiss man was pushed into Eurovision thanks to his connections. Italy is the best composed song and will win the jury vote if there are professionals there.
I don’t think it will win. This is not San Remo.
Italian stage impressed me based on the photos 🙂
I hope there would be pyros for the song.
Based on their images, looks like a more floral, earthy, man?skin vibe/eyeliner/visual. Intensely pretty… Video will help set context. Always going to be top 5.
*Måneskin
Alas, they dumped aforementioned manager shortly after Rotterdam. Hopefully Angelina won’t do the same.
Angelina has the same manager and creative director!
Ah… There really is a ESC clique eh? (Song writers, performers, stage managers)… Only started pre-watching ESC at the NFs last year (loong winter) and this year I kept recognising the same winter names and performer faces. Was strange/surprising to me.
*writer (autocorrect, contact lenses, and nearly bedtime – two Huskies up at 5.30am – arghhh).
5:30am??! My two beasts don’t wake til 8!
We like to think of it as a community. Others prefer cartel.
My god, Italy’s outfits are SO GOOD.
Angelina has winner vibes.
One thing I worry that might stop her is the televoter mentality.
“Italy only won three years ago… Rai can’t host properly, what about the death sun…Torino was nice but I’d like to go to Dubrovnik for my annual May vacation… Croatia deserves it more because a first-time winner is overdue… Finland should win because they were robbed last year…”
I don’t think that the casual viewer overthinks these things so much
The power of casual viewers is overrated… most don’t vote, the ones that do maybe once or twice. Members of the fandom are sure to use up all 20 of their votes. Some even move onto another device for Round 2.
If we knew the numbers we would know if we actually make a difference. I highly doubt it. Maybe in Albania or Luxembourg but not in other countries.
Lithuania forever topping the televote in U.K. and Ireland, and other such examples, suggest pretty low numbers.
Please just tell us, EBU.
Croatia sort of won in 1989… 🙂
Well, Angelina surprised me.
Positively or negatively?
Positively, I was worried about a boring stage
Italy didn’t disappoint me on staging this year; colours look great 🙂
OMG THE STAGING OF ANGELINA IS UNREAL
I saw just one image, it is early to comment but I also liked that staging 🙂
Ahahah you’re right, It’s Just too exciting ?
I really like what UK is bringing for the staging concept of “Dizzy”. I think it will look great on screen and Olly sounded great. This can do much better than many have been predicting so far.
I love UK’s bold concept so much! Just wow!
nothing about my girl angelina yet?
I see now, a new form of aesthetic has been discovered
i think we gonna have another last place for Germany, no offence.
I think so, too. And it’s unfair for Isaak because his entry is not bad. It’s just that it’s not that authentic or competitive.
Italy will have five female dancers. Angelina on throne. Back scenes from a forest?
The whole atmosphere is mythical.
Italy will slay!!!
What kind of forest; could you see any image?
There are trees, plants & flowers on the led
And they use the cubes, too
Feel almost sorry for Germany. This staging doesn’t seem to do anything for an already forgettable song. If it hadn’t been for the big 5-rule he would never had made it through the semis. Now he will have to go through a final voting quite possibly not getting a single vote…
Before rehearsals was semi 2 a stronger semi and semi of death but jesus did semi 1 eat them up. It’s not even close how much semi 1 is stronger.
I find both semis are on the same level. Better songs in SF2 (imo) but better performance in SF1 for the moment. And I say that only based on Ireland, Ukraine and Portugal because for the others they just seem okay to me.
1. Croatia
2. Ukraine
3. Italy
4. Netherlands
5. Greece
6. Lithuania
7. Switzerland
8. Ireland
9. Norway
10. France/Sweden/Israel/UK
I have a feeling this will be top 10 in the final (random order)
Ukraine’s boring song doesnt deserve 2nd place or top3 position; the song is just boring.
I wrote it is random order 🙂
Bro changed his name again. We are on 7th name now I think lmao
Ukraine has a beutiful song and one of the most catchy…
Catchy? 🙂 they again send another war-theme song
The staging of UK seems great but it makes me a bit uncomfortable at the same time. We’ll see how it actually looks like with the official camera shot but I’m scared it’s a bit too… erotic?
Why?? i did see the tits almost of eeh Slovenia and Chezchia, and the bollocks of Windows 85.
Man, believe me I’m against what Windows95Man is doing xD
For Slovenia too I think they did too much (plus it’s not really beautiful). For Czechia I’m less shocked tbh
Thought the same
Is there even such a thing as “too erotic”?
This is not the junior contest. It goes out after 9 p.m. Freedom of expression etc.
Yeah I completely understand that. It’s not that I have something against erotism. It’s just that in the video it seems a little bit weird to me. Like a bit too much for Eurovision stage. Maybe with official camera shots it will completely feel different, let’s see. The whole idea is still interesting.
Oh give over! We have to have the grim windows95 plonker thrusting his bits on screen in a thong. This is tame
Uncomfortable with what exactly? Go on just say it
Before you start assuming anything, I’m gay… so it’s not because it’s men on stage. It’s just the whole feeling I had by watching the scene that was shown in the video. And I’m scared a lot of people could feel uncomfortable too.
But you haven’t said what part is uncomfortable to watch?
Oh. The moment a guy comes close to his face, no problem with that alone. What I find a bit weird are the 2 guys behind. I don’t know what will be seen on that camera shot but the “superimposition” of the 2 scenes might give a strange gay club vibe. It’s totally possible that I’m the only one thinking this but I feel it wasn’t necessary for the story of the song.
Have certain rules changed for 2024?
“The accompanying Backing track may optionally contain Backing Vocals. However, the Backing track in question shall not contain (i) Lead Vocals, (ii) Lead Dubs and/or (iii) any other vocals that would have the effect of, or aim at, replacing or unduly assisting the Lead Vocal(s) during the live performance on stage. “
If they have a good excuse, like slick choreography, rules don’t apply. Martin turns a blind eye.
Bit worried.
I was a bit disappointed by Teresa and Maria, because I had high expectations.
They said themselves that the NF were too dark, so I hoped for something more light and colorful.
But the dress and clothes are better and light, though.
It has a good famous director, looks very professional.
Looks like the roundup for the first half of semi 2 is on YouTube in 15 minutes.
Olly.. omg. Gay much?? No offence..
Offence taken.
Well he is gay so, ya know… Stating the obvious
When it is a hetero staging, nobody bats an eyelid. It is completely unremarkable, no matter how sexy or loosely clothed. Nobody ever says “wow, hetero much?”, do they?
I’ve seen gays joke about heteros. But it’s okay for gays to joke about hetero’s.. But no one can never ever dare to joke the other way around without being called nasty things. It’s like when black people joke about white people. That is pretty rascist too.
There are a lot of people who are willing to tolerate homosexuality if it’s presented in a funny, non-sexual, non-“threatening” form. Olly has torn through that. Anyone who is bothered by it deserves to be offended.
It makes up for lack of pronouns in the lyrics.
Milla not only racist but homophobic, and she wondered why Sweden is disliked.
Well… to define a whole nation and its people by just one person, Milla or anyone else, is pretty xenophobic.
I have two half brothers, their mother is froom SriLanka. So no, I’m not a rascist.
Don’t stress. Let this be a learning moment! Peace.
So why is this down voted? Rascists.
Racist?? What the.. Offence taken. And no I’m not homophobic,, people love who they love. Jeez.. It’s the performance I feel is a bit too much. That’s all.
What do you have against gay people, get a grip
Does someone bother to understand..
I mean the stage show is very cool. But sometimes people perform as it was a parody of gay people. And for me Olly and the dancers are on the borderline of doing just that. It gets a bit too much.
You can be gay, but not too gay. Is that it?
The fact you had to put no offence just makes it worse do one ya vile homophobe.
It’s just a saying. And I’m not an english speaking person. So the real meaning of some english words I’m not always familiar with. It’s just what people say.
I apologize. It was wrong of me. It came out wrong. Of course Olly is good as he is. But the performance feels too sexual and erotic for my taste. I won’t apologize for that.
I almost can’t stand hip-shaking girls in this contest either..
Malta is being underrated in my opinion. Don’t get me wrong, it is not a top 15 or even top 20 song, but is, in my opinion, good enough to qualify. Unfortunately, this is year the competition is too good.
Malta is looping it Bro!!
Im not a fan of girldance bops.
Sarah is serving it to the table.
You are right, but my point was that in other years Malta would qualify easily. But as this year the competition is very strong, the song has been downgraded and underrated.
And I am not a fan of girldance bops too.
But she really Loops!! Kuddos to that.
Having absolutely NO CLUE who is winning this year and the sheer number of contenders is equally as exciting as it is absolutely terrifying. My poor heart on 11 May! ?
And I have a feeling the odds will change a lot of times in the days to come
Yeah, that’s why I am so excited with this year’s Eurovision!!
Yeah… It really does depend on what people vibe with on the night… near first-time only viewers on the show-nights vs. the fandom months-long views and pre-conditioning. We can’t really ‘judge’, we’re too ‘in it’. I assume the first-timers make up the majority of the televote. Then, the juries… Who knows what they’re feeling ‘this season’. I have no clue wjo or what they might be drawn to, apart from La Noia (it kind of a classic and classy format). Bambie to the final, as I want to see maximum exposure for them, and then it in the hands of… Read more »
Slimane literally took the entire stage concept from Teya Dora, changed black to white, and threw away the rock haha He even copied her “crashing to the floor” for the last prechorus. How can those choreographers do something so obvious and not be sanctioned?
Differences: No rock, no black but white, and holding his arms up a few times.
Maybe he had his staging planned six months ago?
France’s song is boring but good, anyway.
We didn’t know Teya Dora had a copyright on kneeling and arms holding. Whatever, she won’t be in the Grand Finale, so Slimane is safe.
Teya Dora literally took the entire stage concept from Slimane, changed white to black, and put a papier mache rock haha
France is like this good movie that gives you the cry you needed for a long time!
Czechia’s vocal from 2nd rehearsal: *big disappointment*. That backing track was ridiculous!!
Now or in the future: whatever country pulling a “health card” for “vocal issues”. IYKYK.
For the 1st time in years I think any Big 5 may not come last in the final.
Most of them will have some jury points to avoid it (Germany in particular) so maybe Spain but some televote may come thru.
Forgive my ignorance boys and girls, are we getting a recap tonight at all? 🙂
Probably not until the rest of the semifinal two participants get their second rehearsal tomorrow
Quite why Germany are sat in an armchair while a box of trinkets burns is a mystery.
Armenia has such effortless charisma. Absolutely beautiful
I totally agree on that. That girl is just pure fun and pure joy. It feels incredibly good to watch her perform.
Absolutely agree with you, and that song is such a easy crowdpleaser
Her and Marina Sati dancing together was everything!!!
As their staging is quite basic.
I was underwhelmed with this in first round of live images, but on the 2nd they got me.
Well done.
The Girl-bops in this semi have to dance break even BIGGER.
Now it’s officially become a stage contest and not a song contest. Welcome to the club everyone. /From Sweden
It has been like that for the last 10 years, no surprise there. Tbh I think it’s not a problem to have great staging if you are able to deliver a good performance on a good song. Sadly it’s not always the case but I think Sweden is not the first target here. There are way worse then them.
2002 is the epitome of staging over song.
Staging was very bad that year :/
And 2015, let’s not forget that one.
No; 2015 staging was looking good.
And of course 2001 in Denmark. There were lot of things going on in Parken, the audience could even buy beer. The songs were like background music.
Mostly I mean that many have upped there game this year with incredible stagings. Even not so good songs get a makeover this year and turn out not so bad.
Can we talk about how some artists rely on the soundtrack? We’re not far from playback for some of them. Either that or there was a problem with the microphone…
Completely unfair for the artists who actually sing by themselves.
Awful. Cheating. Totally not in the spirit of the backing vocals rule, which was only ever supposed to be a temporary measure anyway. Disingenuous con artistry, prioritising television over music and art. Unfair. Trickery. Insulting.
Completely agree
I don’t disagree, but your phrasing makes it sound like you’re taking the piss
I’m not!
Degradation of integrity just makes my blood boil is all.
I love the contest more than the EBU, and have more respect for it than the executive supervisor.
Which is why you should remove that bronze star you gave to Austria. This is basically the first full playback entry.
Hm, good point. It may be rescinded.
This was really bad with Czechia and Malta today.
Well, Malta for the very few we can here her actually singing I can’t really judge xD But yeah Czechia my god. If you listen carefully you can hear her real voice but it’s nearly completely covered by the soundtrack. I think it’s a shame because the song is not bad at all and it seems the staging is actually well done but she doesn’t deserve to take someone else’s place in final if she can’t sing. It’s a bit the same for Denmark. I mean I personnally like Sand, it’s in my top 15 this year and I know… Read more »
I thought maybe Saba doesn’t want to use her voice now.
I can see (hear) Austria and Czechia overdoing with the backing vocals / track.
Sweden. Seems like a nice transition to a bigger stage.
Too bad the song sucks.
France. slimane is lying on stage with a smoke and cappela would be amazing
sadly no hot guys next to Olly, shame he didn’t ask hunky actors like Danny Mac, Nigel Harman who can also dance so well, or Kelvin Fletcher, the entire audience and viewers at home would go crazy for Sexy Kelvin
One of his dancers is absolutely GORGEOUS!
Nigel Harman!?! Over THESE!?!
Just read elsewhere Olly has changed the middle 8 of the song. Something we saw Sam do in 2022. Let’s see if it has any positive impact.
I find Dizzy very repetitive with no change in lyrics towards the end so this is hopefully a positive move
A more satisfying end would be nice too.
Always! 😉
Oops, how accidentally raunchy of me. Blush.
Eurovision Thong Contest
Complete with Bucks Fizz moment
We always like to ripp our skirts off on the winning moment back in 1981. Many times repeated after.
if you wanna see some more!!…………….
Epic, The Fizz dont get enough credits for it.
Ridiculous that what outfit an act wears can determine victory or defeat. How shallow we are.
I don’t think it’s only the outfit for any act. It’s always the combination of all visuals and whether we have an aesthetic result or not.
That’s not really much better. Songs are audio, not visual. Staging for me is about selling the song, convincing the listener subconsciously. We shouldn’t score it directly.
I always considered eurovision as rating of visuals+song…. It has it in the name, and it’s a televised contest. Nothing shallow about it, and both aspects (visuals+song) are important in judging. Again, my opinion only.
“Eurovision” is the name of the satellite network that broadcasts the contest, nothing more. You might also see the Eurovision logo trackside at European Athletics Championships, or boxing matches. Even papal masses live from the Vatican can be preceded by Te Deum.
It’d be equally ridiculous to judge the fastest runner by what colour their shorts were, or how tight they were.
Whether we like it or not it’s no simply a song contest. Sanremo is a song contest. In Eurovision we judge the whole package and that contains the visuals. I don’t think that’s necessarily bad: visuals can also be artistic
Well then when we listen to Tattoo or Hold Me Now or Fairytale or Rise Like A Phoenix on Spotify… do they stop being Eurovision winners?
Are they only Eurovision winners when reprised complete with staging, costumes, pyrotechnics etc.?
No because the song of course is still the most crucial part. Just not the only one. If we want it to be we should switch back to the old orchestra format like Sanremo.
Also Hold Me Closer wasn’t a Eurovision winner but it should have been 🙂
Oh you said Hold Me Now. Jeez I need to get new glasses sorry
I don’t think it’s necessarily ridiculous. Don’t we all make judgements about people from what they are wearing? Even if that is unfair, it’s not surprising.
Yeah, it is perfectly okay to make a judgement on style choices. If this was a fashion contest, that should be reflected in the voting… but it’s not.
Group question.
Who was the worst dressed winner of all time?
Brotherhood of Man, possibly. Arguably Celine.
It is not though. Viewers at home do the same thing. They can dislike or like a song for any shallow things
Which is ridiculous.
It’s not 1964 anymore. It is not only about the voice. It is about a package. Song is more than just the vocals and lyrics.
Yeah, production values, orchestrations, emotion etc. All audio. An awful song with wonderful staging should still get ZERO points. Please see aforementioned 2002.
