He won Melodifestivalen 2015 with the song “Heroes”…and then went on to win Eurovision a few months later. And now, ahead of his return to Sweden’s selection show, Måns Zelmerlöw says his next entry is even better than his last.

Speaking to our Tobias at the Melodifestivalen 2025 artist reveal last week, Måns showed a confidence and vigour befitting a Melfest king.

“I think think it’s a better song than ‘Heroes,'” he said. “It’s very direct, it’s very anthemic, big, uptempo.”

He added that his three-year-old son insists on listening to it every night, suggesting it might do well with the youngest of voters.

You’ll have to wait until Heat 4 in Malmö on February 22 to hear the song in full. But Monsieur Zelmerlöw gave us a bit of a thematic tease.

Asked what emoji best describes the song, he went for the strong arm bicep.

“It is about fighting — fighting for our world. That everyone can contribute and every little helps to make this world a better place.”

Returning to Melodifestivalen as a Eurovision winner and then winning the contest again is not a given. Even Loreen — the only woman to win Eurovision twice — failed to win Mello on her return in 2017. See also Charlotte Perrelli and Elisabeth Andreassen, among others.

So what do you think? Could our man do it again? Let us know down below.

Måns Zelmerlöw: My Melodifestivalen song “Revolution” is not as good as “Heroes”. Well, THAT would have been news.

Tbh. I want good songs. If his song is good, go to Eurovision. If there’s a better song, don’t go to Eurovision.

Well, that is not very difficult, is it?

We will be the judge of that, if it is, fair enough, but we’ll see

Yes, that’s exactly what we should do. Wait until the song is officially out to make our judgments.

better than heroes, means it’s not something that disgusts me then

I have a feeling Klara will win if her song is written by the same people who did ‘Euphoria’ and ‘Tattoo’. Her last song got to number one in the charts and Sweden and she improves upon her performances every time. Watch out for her!

For some reason I feel a Loreen 2017 moment coming up, a song and performance actually liked by the fandom (at least I think the fandom really likes Statements) but not understood by the Swedish public and thus not advancing.

It doesn’t matter about the quality of the song, people are thoroughly sick of Mans. If he was to make it to Switzerland he would be relying on a televote that is tired of Sweden in general to make it to the final. Much like Charlotte Perelli made it to the final as a jury save but flopped in the televote only final

Problem was Perelli just gave us the same song she won with in 1999..
If he gives a different sound then people could like it

I don’t see how “Take Me To Your Heaven” and “Hero” were similar.

Both were schlagers. Its like we were stuck in time. Perreli showed no progress or that she evolved as an artist. Just the same tiresome thing she does. If Måns shows that he has evolved as musician he can do well

The first one a rehash of “Waterloo”

Let’s face it – without the unique staging – Heroes likely wouldn’t have one. The song wasn’t awful, but, it wasn’t amazing, either.

I guess it depends on your taste. Hero was by far my favorite song of 2015 and I think it’s objectively a better winner than Azerbaijan 2011, Ukraine 2016 and Israel 2018 (if we stay in the same decade). I would even say that, from the 2010-2020 decade, the only winners I prefer to Mans are Loreen and Duncan Laurence.

To be certain, but 2015 was a particularly strong year. He likely wouldn’t have won with a standard type staging.

Bold words, Mans, it would be embarassing if Revolution doesn’t live up to expectations.

Perhaps “Artistic personality”? If some other man would sing his songs would it be that different in a bad way, probably not.

The exposure doesn’t bother me, neither that he’d be bad, it’s just a bit uninteresting what he brings as an artist.

If he has the best song he should win. But I don’ think he will win. Even Måns himself doubts he will win..
I just think what Loreen did was a unique thing even for Swedish standards.
But he absolutely will do well, top 5 for sure

Also Carola and Charlotte both won Mello on the first return as Eurovision winners. Loreen did not, but she more than compensated for that with Tattoo!

Better than Heroes?! If I was him I wouldn’t denigrate my Esc winning song, I would say it’s different rather than better.
What made Heroes win Melfest and Eurovision wasn’t the song in itself, but the overall package with the advanced staging and the concept.
So maybe Revolution is powerful enough in itself and don’t need to rely on an advanced staging…we’ll see

I agree. But now when I think about it, Sanna Nielsen (Sweden 2014) have said that Empty Room (2nd place in Melfest 2008 but 1st place in televote) is the song she is most proud of
