Eesti Laul — Estonia’s national selection for Eurovision — is going big in 2016. This year producers will stage the show in Saku Suurhall, the Eurovision 2002 venue which has a capacity of 5,000. In recent weeks we’ve been nibbling on some of the musical delights — click here and here for our first reactions — and we are pleased to say there are some kickass songs to fill that massive venue. Now we can dig into the rest of the numbers as state broadcaster ERR has finally released all 20 songs that will compete in the semi-finals.

Naturally we want to know your favourite. You can listen to all of the songs below — then vote in our poll. You can vote for as many songs as you’d like, but you can only vote ONE time so make it count. We’ll close this poll just ahead of the semi-finals, which kick off on February 13.

ì am shocked actually.. It all sounds like the songs came from 1 album produced by 1 producer. it all sounds the same, where are the songs like goodbye to yesterday? I would be bored watching a semi final like this though i like a few songs. but still..

Wow, there are many good songs in Estonia this year 🙂 But my favourite is Wurffel with “I’m facing north” – I’ll be very happy if I could see them performing in Stockholm in May

I’ve started to realise that in recently, Estonia has been one of my favourite countries in the Eurovision, and this year, Eesti Laul has provided us with a selection that doesn’t disappoint in terms of quality. Credit goes where it should, as many of the songs this year depart from the ‘typical’ Eurovision fare, and I highly appreciate the risks being taken in order to diversify the pool of songs we get every year. That being said, my main concern is how exactly some of these songs would be translated onto the big stage come May. The main trend in… Read more »

Play is obviously the best song here that could be me being a bit bias because stig wrote the song but then again Tanja helped write the song for La La Ladys and its on the bottom of my list. I really think that if Play is sent to Eurovision along with Juri Estonia will get another top 10 finish. I would be alright with them sending Immortality or Supersonic but the only thing is that next year might be full of uptempo songs like Heros. Just like how in 2014 Conchita won and then in 2015 we got a… Read more »

Here is my quick run down of the five, that I think, are most likely to win
1 – urban sound
5 – copyright issue? (very hooky) – possible winner (even of a Eurovision) if entered!
13 – george ezra / john legend sound recycled but aesthetically pleasing
17 – cliche (re-used lyric)
19 – bastille / modern indie (over-use of triplets)

This is definitely a good lineup and will make for a good show.
I enjoyed Kati Laev’s song, but in all honesty is would ONLY work if done with a live orchestra, which is gone from Eurovision.

Grete Paia has the best song by far!

This is starting to look like a very strong year for Estonia, they clearly want to continue on the same path as last year.

TOP 5:
1. Grete Paia – Stories Untold
2. Laura – Supersonic
3. Jüri Pootsmann – Play
4. Cartoon – Immortality
5. Púr Múdd – Meet Halfway

1) Immortality
2) Unikaalne
3) Play
4) Seis
5) Miljon korda
6) Supersonic
7) Meet Halfway
8) I’m Facing North
9) Patience
10) Salty Wounds
11) Stories Untold
12) Strong
13) Kaugel sinust
14) Sally
15) How Many Times
16) Hispaania tüdruk
17) Ei ole mul olla
18) Lonely Boy
19) Love A Little Bit
20) Parmupillihullus
Really strong selection from Estonia, I love all songs ranked 13 and up, while the only songs I don’t like are the ones from 18-20. If “Immortality” wins I think it could be Tallinn 2017.

Goodbye to Yesterday is my winner of esc last year, my favourite esc song ever and probably my favourite song of all time, it’s perfect <3
I was not expecting for this NF to be so good though! I haven't listened to all the songs but there are already 3 I love: Supersonic, Play + Stories Untold <3

Eesti Laul is doing everything right this year thank god! There’s a massive shift to the indie electropop that is the ‘in’ thing in western music right now. Overall the quality just seems better than last year, despite there not being a song that gets to me the way Goodbye to Yesterday did. Pohja-Tallinn: I’m not a huge fan of constant rap in songs, and this was no different. I’ve never been a fan of Pohja-Tallinn anyway. 3/10 Indrek Ventmann: Musically boring, and for some reason the Estonian used here doesn’t work as well as other songs. The huge Kuula… Read more »

Some decent songs in here, the stand out one being Go Away Bird’s Sally… It would truly be a shame if they sent crap like Immortality or Supersonic when they probably got one of the strongest selections…

‘Play’ has a Jamie Cullum vibe which i adore, ‘Suoersonic’ well all knew would be in the running.
But ‘Miljon korda’, ‘Strong’ and ‘Kaugel sinust’ are all really cool too.
‘Untold stories’ took the chorus from Sia’s ‘Fire meets Gasoline” :/

I can’t wait for Eesti Laul this year; for the second year in a row, it looks like it’ll be the best NF. My top three are:
1. Jüri Pootsman – Play
2. Würffel – I’m Facing North
3. I Wear* Experiment – Patience
I would be happy with any of these songs in Stockholm, but I get the feeling it will be Jüri. As long as “Supersonic” or “Immortality” or “Parmupillihullus” don’t win, I’ll be happy. I just don’t get why people like the first two (although you are free to disagree with) whilst Parmupillihullus…well…that’s a other matter entirely

Jüri Pootsmann – Play

Blah

“Play” is the song that stands out the most for me. It’s maybe not quite as strong as the last few Eurovision winning songs, but I think it’s a Eurovision-“friendly enough” track. I could see it making it to the final.

As for “Immortality” and “Supersonic”… I think those are pretty nice songs, but I don’t think they’d do well at Eurovision.

So yeah, my money’s on Jüri Pootsmann 😉 that said, may the best win!

EESTI is BRINGING the LAUL. Long post ahead. Strong bunch, might even end up being the best national selection of the year, thanks to the diversity of songs and singers. There’s a lot of really strong, complex songwriting going on, and while I know a lot of people just want endless schlager, I think there’s room for interesting songs. And some schlager. I wouldn’t be disappointed if every single song was in the actual contest. One of the issues that these songs might face is how well they go live with in a big space, which is kind of true… Read more »

I think the overall quality of this year is very good and at this point I have no idea who will win 🙂 Probably between Jüri Pootsmann, Cartoon and Laura, all of them quite different. I also wouldn’t mind Go Away Bird, Mick Pedaja or Anett Kulbin.

A lot of interesting ones, and quite a high standard. Mick Pedaja with Seis, Go away bird with Sally and juri pootsman with play are the best. Eulemiolla or whatever it’s called was catchy too and it’s been a while since Eurovision had some rap. Parmupillihullus was so bad it would be funny if it was chosen, but I’d go with seis.

Jüri Pootsmann, because the song is very catchy and stands out. At first I was slightly disturbed by the very ecclectic background in the studio version, but now I am starting to get used to it the way it is. Sorry, Stig, I did not want to nag, really… It´s fine as it is.
I also quite like Lonely Boy … and Kati laev (she has the Ö letter instead of Õ, is she from Saaremaa?)
cartoons are for little kids.
