French broadcaster France 2 recently announced that their artist for Stockholm would be revealed on 12 March. But they also started dropping hints about the identity of the artist. They’ve just given us another hint – this time they’ve revealed the mystery person is a guitar player.
France 2’s latest hint suggests that the singer in question is also a guitar player – “inseparable” from their instrument.

“Hint #2: The artist shows us his/her inseparable guitar live!”
This follows the first clue which revealed a television dressing room counter covered with make-up, a very broad hint, considering that television make-up is used on people of all genders.
The guitar hint seems to rule out the previously rumoured up-and-coming singer Sasha. She’s not known as a guitarist, and her rumoured Eurovision song “Alive” is full of piano and electronic sounds — but no guitar. But we like this theory: the pictured guitar resembles the one played by legendary French singer Sacha Distel, therefore hinting at the other Sasha. Hmmm…
We know that the artist will be under the age of 50, so the question now is, if not Sasha, who are the young French artists who also play the guitar? Here are a few names.
Kendji Girac
Kendji won season three of The Voice: la plus belle voix in 2013, and has had two No.1 albums in France and a string of top-10 singles. He’s also a fan favourite for France’s ESC act. In August he was asked if he’d consider Eurovision but he gave a vague answer.
Tal
While the Israeli-born singer Tal is best known for her pop and R&B sounds, her father was a guitar player and she can hold her own with six strings.
Damien Lauretta
Actor and singer Damien Lauretta first came to public attention as part of the French X Factor boyband 2nde Nature in 2011. He then went on to score a role in the third series of the Argentinian Disney telenovela musical Violetta. He recently contributed a track to a tribute album in honour of the French musical legend Daniel Balavoine.
Joyce Jonathan
Folk-pop chanteuse Joyce has released a number of singles with some chart success in both France and French-speaking Belgium. She’s known for playing the guitar in her live shows.
Which French guitar-loving singer do you think the hints are pointing to? Is this the right direction for France’s act for Stockholm? Share your thoughts below.
I’m hoping for the impossible: Damien Saez! If it was him, I will be happy 😀
A video concerning the Artist will be released when the twitter of “EurovisionFrance2” will be at 3333 followers !!! 😀
It won’t be Kendji Girac… they can’t book him for Eurovision, it’s too risky for a HUGELY popular artist like him… but if it happens, i will FAINT!!!
Kendji’s first album sold over 500,000 copies (diamond) and his second one was also extremely successful.
Eagles of Death Metal for France?
I think it could be Damien Lauretta… he has a song released on 29.02.2016 “Fall In Love”… maybe his entry? Check his Twitter!
I will be so happy if Kendji Girac is sent to Stockholm, nuff said
I’m so disappointed right now. I was really hoping for Sasha. 🙁
France got a lot of great singers whom the genres are very unique (rai, Algerian rai, gypsies) such as Indila, Amine and well Kendji is on the list. I’d be happy if it should be Kendji, with his music style he’ll sure can lift up France but he already shaped his name and its too risky for his career.
I hope Kendji Girac is the chosen artist. If he delivers something as good as Andalouse its gonna be no surprise if he wins.
Kendji would be a great move from France 2. Just like Louane, he’s at the top of his game at the moment. Most of his singles were extremely successful and could have easily reached top 5 at Eurovision (Andalouse, Conmigo, etc.).
But just like Louane, I doubt he would risk a promising career for Eurovision…
If it’s Kendji I’ll probably pass out an he’ll become my number 1 for sure
So….a french Ed Sheeran?
It seems like France doesn’t want to win…I only heard of their attempt to promote their choice through Facebook on your blog! I wish my country had the same interesest in the ESC as other countries. On the other hand, I can understand why the contest doesn’t appeal to most artists when you have the feeling that whatever we send, we are always on the left of the board, at the bottom…I was so disppointed for Amandine Bourgeois for example.I do think that she was underrated. Anyway,I would love to see the band Brigitte on stage in Stockholm, they would slay,… Read more »
I just learned about this Damien Lauretta guy days ago thru Capitol France’s Instagram. He has an upcoming single expected to drop by the end of this month. Weirdly, I just thought to myself that time maybe he’ll fly their flag to Stockholm.
AND NOW. OH WOW.
Still hoping for Sasha and Alive, but really, anyone will do as long as the song’s going to be killer.
Kendji?? No, that would be impossible. But France would fly to my number 1 if it was him!
Goddamn, pay Matt Pokora to perform one year and give you a respectable banger
Of course I would like to believe that France’s artist is someone popular but I don’t have my hopes up high. Same thing for the UK and their NS artists.
