We’re still just under a month away from the first semi-final. But that hasn’t stopped Estonia’s bookmakers from taking bets on who should win Eesti Laul 2020.

And there is already an Eesti favourite — Uku Suviste.

Eesti Laul 2020 Odds: Uku Suviste favourite to win

The “What Love Is” crooner is currently trading on Coolbet at odds of 3.5.

Uku is a dab hand at Eesti Laul, previously competing in 2017 and 2019. Last year, he finished second with “Pretty Liar”.

Suviste also has strong Russian ties and was coached by Ukrainian shady lady Ani Lorak on the country’s version of The Voice. Furthermore, local media reports have suggested that Philipp Kirkarov — the man behind Eurovision entries from acts such as Sergey Lazarev and DoReDoS — is involved with his entry.

Perhaps such “dream team” talk is encouraging punters to part with their cash.

Eesti Laul 2020: Other favourites

Uku may have the shortest odds, but there are several more acts at the top end of the bookie rankings.

Closest is Jaagup Tuisk on 4.5. “Beautiful Lie” was an early favourite, but may be hampered by its “sad boy” label and comparisons to Billie Eilish.

Rasmus Rändvee’s odds are on par with Jaagup. The one-time Idol contestant placed third in the hotly-contested 2017 Eesti Laul final. So, it’s not surprising that bookmakers are backing him strongly.

Just behind is Stefan on 6.5. He’s also a third-place finisher, coming behind Victor Crone and Uku in 2019.

The top five is rounded out by two-time Eurovision star Laura. The 2005 and 2017 representative is trading on odds of 10.0.

It’s important to note that we obviously haven’t seen any of these songs performed live yet, and these odds are driven partly by hype.

That said, bookies and oddsmakers do keep their ears-to-the-ground and often have insight from songwriters and officials close to (and even inside) broadcasters. Sometimes their crystal balls are based on facts that the rest of us simply don’t know about. The only problem is it’s hard to know when they’re on it and when they’re not…

Eesti Laul 2020 Bookmakers’ Odds

  1. Uku Suviste – What Love Is 3.5
  2. Jaagup Tuisk – Beautiful Lie 4.5

How the odds work

A “fractional betting odd” is when you see two numbers separated by a slash, e.g. 9/1. Such odds let you work out how much money you will win on your bet compared to your initial stake. The number on the left is how much you will win and the number on the right is the amount you need to stake in order to win that figure.

Taking the 9/1 example, for every €1.00 you bet, you will win €9.00. This can also be calculated as a “decimal odd” — 1/(9 + 1)*100 = 10.00. There is a 10% chance that this will be the outcome.

If you make a winning bet of €1.00 you would get back €10.00 — €9.00 in winnings plus your original €1.00

Do you agree with the odds? Would you back Uku? Or do you think your money would be better off invested elsewhere? Let us know in the comments.

Now (some weeks later) Jaagup is the favourite and he’ll be the winner of Eesti Laul 2020.

Uku Suviste – What Love Is is absolutely underwelming, not sure why it’s a favorite.
The best is Jaagup Tuisk – Beautiful Lie.
Also good are Stefan – By My Side and Rasmus Rändvee – Young.

Thank you for these very interesting odds. This is one of my favourite national line-ups so far this season.

At first I liked Uku’s song, but now I think it’s another throwaway pop song, trying to be extra-eurovision and super-meaningful, but actually therefore is not natural or good in none of these categories. And he isn’t good live – last year he want able to hit the notes and I doubt this year would be much better, maybe with a lot ot backsingers, like last year also. I don’t want another Victor Crone, another Estonian entry that lack originality and male singer who cant sing and you have to worry every time if he can sing this, English radio… Read more »

Estonia, please don’t.
His chances to reach the final are slim at best.
And also, WTF? Stefan and especially Laura over Shira? I thought Shira’s chances of representing Estonia were higher than that…

Rasmus is the best live vocalist here – I was at his first solo concert and he is absolutely incredible.

It’s not my winner but Uudo would be far better than Uku. Would also vindicate Felix being robbed in MelFest 2018.

If I was going to place a good outside bet to win Eesti Laul then I would say Shira with Out in space. Based on recent streams on Spotify she is currently 2,000 more streams more than any other contestants. Plus it’s a great song and will do well with the jury.

Jaagub, or Rasmus have to win! They are only two i’ve been listening to. Uku’s song sounds dated.

Fingers crossed for Rasmus Randvee. He was the best one in 2017 edition (and actually my whole NF season personal runner-up). Young is one of my top favorite songs of this season. I also think that Jaagup, Shira and Stefan are amazing this year. Uku is solid, but I’d prefer him winning another year when his song would actually be the best one. Good luck to all and happy Eesti laul everyone! 🙂

Honestly, ‘Young’ is the only song I’m listening to here, so music-wise, I would pick Rasmus, no doubt. Visually, it’s Jaagup. Uku bores me to death. That song has no merit for me.

Okay , so UKU is definitely not winning !!! Last year he had a better song , and didn’t win the jury or the televote !! This year I highly doubt with this subpar song he is gonna win !! At first I was amazed as how he entered with such a song cause it’s clearly way outdated than his last year’s entry but then you mention “Dream team” and they’re an epitome of bringing songs that are far bygones , so some of it makes sense. I have faith in the Estonian audience though that they have taste and… Read more »

I’m no insider, but if I had to take a wild guess, I’d assume because he is nowhere near as cute as Jaagup, has nothing to do with Estonia and isn’t competing in Eesti Laul.

Its will be hard game but for me its between – Rasmus/Egert/Jaagup/Traffic/Uudo/Shira/Stefan/Inger/Laura/Uku 😀
I think winner will be Jaagup or Rasmus

Amm I would like to also remind you that Rasmus was not even a close to a favourite prior the show, then he slayed and got a 3rd place, so he may win this year, which I wouldn’t mind. I also like Jaagup and Shira

I think all of these songs are too much Eurovision by numbers. Estonia does better when its authentic, with a heart and soul. Kuula and Goodbye to yesterday are case in point.

La Forza was not heart and soul , it was Elina showing her skills and she was very good at it.

I mean, we really haven’t seen the juries’ prediction yet. Uku might be a favorite on the bookmakers but this is just showing how many people are willing to bet money on him, not really showing any other amount of fans who ignores this kind of predictions.

It’s really not a good song… I’m sorry but it screams Made Of Stars 2.0, it’ll do well with juries but the televoters will let it crash and burn

Azaad

It’s so dated and bland I think the juries will not like it either. This is just based on the artist’s fame outside of the contest.

Agree with azaad , just based on name wins would have come much more easier with a better song like it was last year

His name is the same , his song is worse , I believe Estonia will still make the right choice
