In recent years, more and more countries have set their hopes for Eurovision glory on an internal selection process. In 2021, this number is higher than ever. After last year’s cancellation, many countries simply invited their 2020 acts to return and selected their songs internally.
A total of 25 Eurovision 2021 songs have been chosen internally, up from 17 in 2020. A few weeks ago, we asked our readers to vote for their favourite. And the results are in!
Poll results: Destiny’s “Je Me Casse” is your favourite internally selected song for Eurovision 2021
The results are now in — and it was Malta’s Destiny who came out on top. A massive 8,381 votes were cast. In the end, Destiny topped the ranking with “Je Me Casse”. The Maltese singer earned 11.1% of the votes, which is 930 votes to be precise.
Ever since its release in early March, “Je Me Casse” has been on everyone’s lips. It’s a firm fan favourite and currently tops the bookies’ odds. Should Destiny carry this momentum all the way to victory, she will become the first person to win both Junior Eurovision and Eurovision.
In second place is Switzerland’s Gjon’s Tears with “Tout l’univers”, which received 781 votes (9.32%). Taking home the bronze medal is San Marino’s Senhit, who secured 613 votes (7.31%) for “Adrenalina”. Rounding out the top five are Greece’s Stefania and Romania’s Roxen.

What do you think of the results? Do you agree with the outcome? Who’s your number one?
At this rate if Malta ends up getting a slightly decent result in May people here would say the delegation bought SIM cards and corrupted the international juries. I’m calling it.
Surely only Azerbaijan do that!
Malta gave Azerbaijan 12 points four years in a row once.
Ha ha. Loved that comment!
When you buy Youtube and the Eurovision bubble medias nothing else is impossible next then.
oh please. you’re starting to believe your own lies.
Destiny’s is not giving in
I think Ireland could be the surprise of this eurovision
Yeah right :)))))
So will be Georgia :))
Honestly, I think Lithuania will win the televote because it’s catchy, entertaining, simple and overall amazing for a non ESC fan. But bc of juries I see Switzerland or Malta winning, they’re jury-friendly and will get a lot of televote points.
Not at all !!!
When I saw the number of comments on this article before I clicked into it, I was predicting who I’d see. Usual suspects again on both sides (for and against) being toxic over Malta. Y’all are doing Destiny no favours by the way. Those of you saying awful things about her, grow up, she’s 18 and probably more maturity in her big toe than some of y’all And then there’s those commenting on everyone who isn’t supporting Malta, ramming it into their faces, again grow tf up and stop obsessing. I swear it’s killing this site and I don’t see… Read more »
I don’t know if you’re referring to me (for the For Team), but do my comments here look toxic to you ? Is that bad for me to debate with people here without insulting them ? You probably saw the number of comments and expected to see me — which indeed was a good guess — but did you actually read my comments ? Do you consider them as bad or toxic ? Oh and in case you didn’t know — and you were refering to me, I commented other articles like the one where Dami is giving her top… Read more »

Hope I showed you enough comments of me on articles other than those about Malta — if you were referring to me in your comment.
This is exactly what I meant. I know your intentions are good but chill.
Your words mean a lot to me. I’ll try then. I know I can be aggressive with my tone and sound obssessive by always defending Malta, Destiny or Je me Casse, but they’re my winners. That’s a natural attitude. But I’ll try to chill.
I love Malta this year, but my personal winner is Iceland with Ireland my second but Malta’s in my top 5, to me I still think Switzerland is overrated and should be a none qualifier but it’s just my own personal choice
12 points to Iceland from UK
I don’t hate Malta’s song. But I think there are better songs in this year’s Eurovision. Destiny has a catchy song, but as a whole, I don’t like this American style of singing somehow, please don’t get me wrong, It’s just my opinion. I think she had better song last year. (By the way, Je me casse was played on the Slovak radio station RTVS and they didn’t know it was intended for Eurovision)
Speaking of the few people giving most of the time negative and unvalid comments about Malta, here’s one of em.
The Roop are still contenders for the win, you know ? No need to feel threatened by Destiny and always comparing both of those artists. They’re both equally excellent and have strong entries.
Well, I don’t like the song for a bunch of reasons. I (!) won’t (!) say that they bought views or something, I don’t know, but for me it’s overhyped. The song has nothing Maltese, it’s a typical Swedish bop. Lyrics are boring, tune is too repetitive for me, it’s aesthetics are too similar with Netta’s “Toy”. The singer’s vocal delivery is cool, but the track itself doesn’t give her a chance to show it the best way. Actually, I think, bops this year are awfully tasteless. Sorry. With respect to people with other opinion, ready to discuss this topic… Read more »
There are very, very few songs which have anything local in them.
There is nothing really nothing that is similar to Netta’s Toy, except for the message. If you can manage just to listen to the melody you can see how different the two compositions are.
Yep. Also define ‘there’s nothing Maltese in it’ and why does that matter to you ? The ESC isn’t an ‘exclusively local-made’ song contest and has never been before. Luxemburg and Monaco entries can tell you that.
I don’t like it for two important reasons: 1). It turns into competition between different Swedish songwriters, so there’s no real struggle between countries. 2). It kills genre diversity. Honestly, ESC has a big problem with it and the Swedish factory is like a gun into the diversity’s face.
That’s fair of you to think that way.
Personally, I don’t think ‘Je Me Casse’ is killing the ESC genre diversity this year. It brings something fresh to the table cause it’s an electro-swing-pop-soul song. Something never done brung to ESC before. It’s definitely something you won’t see at the Melodifestivalen since there are a kind of ‘formatage’ in the entries selected for competing in.
Ellen, it wasn’t I who said that there is nothing Maltese in this composition. I was in fact answering Eugenie who made such an observation. Of course I do not judge a song by how much it is locally made. I judge a song by what it is and not by its ethic flavour. I totally agree with you and I think you misunderstood my comment. I was underlining the fact that very few songs are locally made or produced and those which have some ethnic sounds in them are imported ones (for example the Netherlands and San Marino).
Yes,I know it, the truth. ‘Yep’ was my answer to you but the rest was directed towards Eugenie.
No problem
Well, for me it’s a big problem with contemporary ESC. I’m not in like with this so-called American pop attack. It’s pretty disgusting. We got a lot of more local entries(Ana Socklic, Go_A, Manizha) that have less hype. It’s a bit disappointing. When I said “aesthetics” I didn’t mean tune. I meant public image, PR strategy, lyrics and agressive vocal delivery. That’s the whole point.
I am sorry but I cannot agree with you. Destiny and Netta have two completely different identities, styles and images. You can see it in the way they dress, put on a show and sing. PR strategy is always PR strategy. One promotes one’s own song so that comment is superfluous. The lyrics are also quite different although they try to push forward a similar message. Netta’s way of presenting her song was playful, bordering on the childlike, Destiny’s is a bit more “womanly” and mature. Even the delivery is very evidently dissimilar. There is nothing aggressive about them. Netta’s… Read more »
Destiny and Netta have one veeeeery similiar narative. And that is a feminist meaning of the song in a typical no brain bop, and if you look at the lyrics you realise it’s bs and a pathetic way to get positive reactions from the public. That’s why you see a lot of ‘yasss queenn’…. And one more reason, being overrated af.
The emphasis on the ‘very’ already shows that the rest of your comment will be biased and provocative.
Plus, define ‘no brain bop’. I don’t really get that expression.
Also I would like to know what makes you think the lyrics of Je Me Casse has been created to get positive reactions from the public. Any secret record of Je Me Casse creation sessions to share with us ?
And above all — and that’s logical to think about that — who in this world creates on purpose song lyrics only to get negative reactions from the public ? I mean except for the Belarussian acts this year… Who does that ? What you’re reproaching about Malta can be applied to the other entries this year. Example. *Omg! The Swiss entry has been exclusively written in french to get positive reactions from the public. So pathetic!* See how dumb that example of mine is. Now think about yours.
Thank for answering Yeah yeah fire. Can’t be bothered to answer him/her.
Ana Soklic song was recorded in USA if i’m not wrong. Plus the choir you can hear in it is American so… I don’t see anything Slovenian in all of that entry except Ana.
If agressive vocals bothers you, I wonder what you think of the Italian and Finnish entries… Rock is not a genre invented in those countries. It has appeared in USA…
I won’t lie, I am surprised Malta is first, not because its not my personal favorite but rather the reaction I see for maltas song in pretty much every comment section.
Although this song has its fans, it’s also one of the frontrunners with the most negative feedback. This is both in relation to the song itself and who wrote or produced the song.
Almost every favourite in the odds receives hate annually, some deserve it (not gonna give any examples), some others not (Portugal and Bulgaria in 2017 or Russia in 2016)
Not every fan favourite receives a lot of negativity, some get it more than others.
Isn’t it obvious? If a country is one of the fan-favorites to win according to the betting odds – it’s obvious that people who want their favorite to win will negatively comment against the country/singer which is at the top, right? I love Switzerland’s song and I’ve seen negative comments too. Very few people will comment if there’s an article about a country who’s currently at the bottom 10. People are betting for Malta to win. Whether people agree or not, that’s a different story. All those betting – will vote, otherwise they will lose money. That’s how odds work… Read more »
Not necessarily, I’d consider Lithuania, Switzerland and France being fan favourites and I don’t see near as much negativity surrounding them.
Then you have to direct your question to those who are commenting against Destiny and Malta. If you look at the comments, most of them do not give any reason. If Destiny was the 2nd or 3rd favorite, most of these people commenting would not bother to do so. But she’s at the top for now, so anything to push that down.
Negative comments will pour even more on Sunday once rehearsals begin. Destiny shines when she sings live!
Truth and facts. It’s most of the time the same few people that are giving negative feedbacks about ‘Je Me Casse’. And few of them, like Im so fab, are out of context when they’re linking ‘Je Me Casse’ success to Destiny’s weight or they’re mocking at her clothes. They have no valid reasons to dislike the song. You don’t necessarily need one to dislike a song, sometimes you can’t explain it, but the arguments given by some people here are… I don’t even have an adjective to describe em. But as you’ve explained it well, it’s nothing new since… Read more »
I mean… Comments about Israel 2018 and Russia 2016 when they were leading the odds were way harsher and indecent than Malta 2021. So I’m kinda glad the island isn’t receiving that much negative critiques and a lot of positive stuff. It’s good sign for the faith of ‘Je Me Casse’ at the ESC.
Personally, it has never been about her vocals. We all know she’s amazing vocally. I however don’t like the song because the song itself is beneath her. To me, it’s not impressive, the message is anthemic and powerful but the song itself isn’t powerful. I don’t love the composition. I much preferred her entry last year but honestly, if I didn’t hear her 2020 entry, I still don’t think I’d like this song.
I think most people who aren’t a fan of malta’s entry this year is very much directing the dislike towards the song.
Finally someone that is giving a good reasoning on a disliking of ‘Je Me Casse’ — even if you’re not the only one, an other user named Colin was also respectful and sensible with his comments about why he didn’t like the song. And I respect it a lot.
This is the beauty of music though, as I love the song for the exact opposite reasons. To me, it’s powerful, fun, memorable, has a catchy tune, the composition and the instruments are amazing and her voice is impeccable.
Personally, I wouldn’t want Destiny to showcase her voice throughout the entire song and belt out all the way through because that would be terrible and boring. JMC showcases the right vocals at the right time. The bridge of the song will be a moment on stage.
I agree 100% with you. That’s why I didn’t like that much ‘All Of My Love’ last year. Her voice was showcased a little bit too much in it, especially at the end. Here with Je Me Casse, there’s enough vocal showcase to appreciate Destiny’s voice.
True.
There are not that much haters. It’s just that they are always the same and they comment like A LOT. You know they have been bored for a year now, they have to do something with their time.
If I hadn’t seen the odds I would surely predict Malta as a Non-Qualifer.
But Malta 2014 was the best ever ESC-entry from Malta, and very underrated.
“Jimmy Casse” is not my cup of coffee though.
I found ‘Coming Home’ really annoying. 2010, 2013, 2016, 2018 and 2019 were remarkable though
Exactly, and people who say betting odds don’t affect anything clearly don’t understand that people are gonna give more attention to it obviously and that the judges are gonna keep in mind it’s first in the betting odds. It makes people think it’s better than it is, and in my opinion it’s really mediocre in such a good year. Other artists deserve more spotlight
I agree with what you said that being first in the odds makes people more aware of the country/song, THOUGH the only reason it’s first in the betting odds, is because people are betting for Malta to win. So, the ‘spotlight’ which Malta and Destiny are getting is 100% genuine. That means people like it enough to think it may possibly win and thus, fork out money. Clearly, not enough people think that other countries may win as long as Malta’s at the top. This may change in a week’s time of course or, the odds completely fail to guess… Read more »
Fan-favorite-fail…..
That’s reserved for Switzerland
there you go! 🙂
Good reply
The level of hate is unbelievable. Why is it always like this when a country is one of the possible contenders? ‘The Maltese delegation are manipulating the Wiwibloggs polls.’ ‘The Maltese delegation are also manipulating the various number of betting odds’ (How that can happen is beyond me!! Betting companies will lose millions of euro if odds are manipulated but anyway) ‘The Maltese delegation also bought YT views’ ‘The Maltese delegation are also trying to manipulate the number of different polls created by YouTubers’. Are you all in denial? Stop saying it’s Toy 2.0 because it does not make sense!… Read more »
How can you be so sure of all these things?
I’m not and I do not believe it. I’m just saying what people who just dislike the song are saying. They will say and do whatever they can to undermine a fan favorite in an attempt to push their favorite song/country up the polls.
Why is everything considered hate nowadays? You can’t say you don’t like something or critique anything. The word ‘hater’ is so overused. I agree that a lot of whats being said is nonsense. But still, the fact is that their delegation keeps pushing Malta so much, we are literally seeing their ads in our coutry. Their views did jump unrealisticaly. A lot of people just simply don’t like the song. Malta is pushing the same narative with the feminist meaning of the song just like Netta did. When in fact it really has no meaning if you look at the… Read more »
Judging songs, music or any other art form is highly subjective and it is based on personal tastes and likes as well as a good amount of bias. You might perceive this song as being mediocre. Others don’t.
Ok maybe hate was a little bit out of context. But posting negative comments just for the sake of putting it out there, is nonsense. See, this is where we disagree. It’s ok to have an opinion but it’s not okay to say ‘just accept the fact the song is fairly mediocre and would be one of the worst songs to win eurovision … etc etc’. That is your opinion. Others do not think so! You think it’s overrated? Fine. I think it’s a great song. Music is subjective.. and it’s not okay to put a blanket statement like that… Read more »
One thing we can all agree on: With so many fan-favourites (Switzerland, San Marino, Malta, France, Italy and maybe Lithuania, Greece and Romania) Eurovision is going to be CRAZY.
And people forget Finland (sure top 8 country)
And I think that a couple of them won’t finish in the top 10. This is where the fun begins.
All of them deserve it, though (I may be harsh with Malta sometimes but it definitely deserves top10)
I think there are a lot of songs with not much between them this year. Staging will make all the difference. So when the rehearsals start next week we will get a better idea of who the main contenders are.
I can’t believe they start next week!!
They actually start this week though
As long as this shamelessly non-Maltese song presented like something authentic doesn’t win Eurovision, I’m not bothered all that much.
Most songs are always shamelessly non-representative of the country they represent. This year there is a very good number of such songs. So let’s name them all!
Hey guys just a PSA, just because you don’t like Malta’s song doesn’t mean they bought votes or are buying views. Funnily enough people have different tastes and this is a very widely liked song. Just because you hate it doesn’t mean everyone else has to. Thank you 🙂
Eurovision crazy Maltese think they have a great chance to win this year. But I think they will be disappointed.
Malta won’t win, but the people, who think Malta won’t make the top 5 this year, are delusional.
Every country thinks that their entry is the best and that they are going to win. Look at Romanians, Greeks, Cypriots, Italians (just to mention a few) commenting on their songs. Maltese people have had their hopes hyped by the odds and the favourable media coverage their song has received. They might win, they might not. Just like every other contender.
Can somebody pplease explain to me, how to sign up in order to comment?
Good luck to her but is the song anything special..nope not according to my taste…it’s just derived from netta’s toy…extracted with toy from Israel…oh sorry I said this before more than once in other articles but what else can I say about this Maltese entry that say excuse my french lol lol lol
Actually, I like the song Je Me Casse, but not that much. And that line, “excuse my french”… I mean, who the hell dose she think she is…
this is really interesting, saying that I like this song just got so much hate… so I’m guessing I have to dislike this song more than I already am from now on.
And for those who doesn’t understand the meaning of “excuse my french”, GOOGLE IT pls! I do not like French language is treated like the F word.
I guess they bought votes the same way they bought views 😀
Don’t be so stupid
As a person who finds Je Me Casse the most overhyped song ever in ESC, I don’t think they really spend money for fake views or wiwibloggs polls, it’s pretty useless.
Great song.. Top 5 for sure if not winner!
Waiting for the hate comments against Destiny in 3,2,1…
Yeah cuz it’s horrible like your taste lul.
Very close scores — shows that it’s largely a good crop of internal selections.
