UK Eurovision fans know Rylan and Graham Norton well as commentators at the world’s biggest song contest. But for all those travelling to Liverpool this week, you’re in for a surprise as the duo pop up in a new role. Rylan and Graham Norton have taken over Merseyrail as the new voices of Liverpool’s train network.
From Friday 5 May, Merseyrail passengers will hear the duo — and co-host Julia Sanina — make important rail announcements, greeting travellers in English, French, and Ukrainian.

Graham, Rylan and Julia can be heard at each city centre station. They’ll give instructions and directions to key Eurovision venues as Liverpool prepares to embrace 100,000 fans travelling to the city for Eurovision 2023.
Merseyrail stations are dressed in pink, blue and yellow ready for Eurovision. Train services will run later on Sunday 7 May and on Saturday 13 May to help fans get in and out of the city for the beginning and end of the festivities. Merseyrail services are unaffected by the industrial action on mainline rail services.
Steve Rotheram, Mayor of the Liverpool City Region, told the Liverpool ECHO: “A world class spectacular such as Eurovision deserves world class transport – and we’re pulling out all the stops to make sure fans and locals will arrive to the party in style. We’ve decorated our new state-of-the-art publicly owned trains and hydrogen buses in Eurovision branding and organised late-night bus and train services to make sure no one has to miss a second of the celebrations – and, when people arrive to our train stations, they might even be greeted by a famous voice or two!
“We’re expecting hundreds of thousands of visitors to descend on the Liverpool City Region for a week-long celebration of music, dance, fun and frivolity – and it’s fantastic to see everyone pulling together to make this a truly unforgettable experience for people from the moment they step foot in our wonderful city.”
“Passengers travelling around the region during Eurovision should plan their journeys and allow extra time to travel as services are expected to be busier than usual and may be subject to change.”

What a genuinely emotional reaction from Rylan. It obviously meant a great deal to him. For me, the main thing that video highlights is how manipulative The X Factor format is and that I don’t want to see Eurovision entrants being set up like this purposely for emotional reactions.
