Dark, mysterious, upbeat and running on adrenaline — that’s the vibe of Cyprus‘ Eurovision 2025 song from Theo Evan. Its title may be “Shh,” but the song is saying a lot. In fact, the upbeat number teases the identity of an unknown person, who we’ll only discover in May. As the Cypriot delegation told us:
“The song invites listeners to keep a secret. Its lyrics reveal clues that help uncover the truth about who the song is all about without fully exposing it. The final reveal will take place on the Eurovision stage in Basel—but until then, those who figure it out must keep it to themselves. So… Shh.”
The song was co-written by some very well-respected names within the world of Eurovision. You’ll know Dimitris Kontopoulos for countless Greek entries (including Demy’s “This is Love” and Stefania’s “Last Dance”), Elsie Bay (Norway’s MGP), Elke Tiel (Silia Kapis’s “Liar”) and Linda Dale and Lasse Nymann (Eurovision 2024 winner “The Code” from Nemo).
The music video starts with Theo speaking to a masked man in a hotel room. They’re playing some type of game with an occult vibe and Theo eventually storms out of this room and through a portal that takes him to a sandy landscape with even more masked dancers. It all ends with a fire, suggesting destruction or perhaps a cleansing.
Throughout the video we see Theo’s ease with his body. He’s able to bend and throw shapes like a total pro. To do that while also hitting those high notes will no doubt be a challenge, but it seems he is more than up for the task.
About Theo Evan
“Theo Evan started his journey into music and dance from the tender age of 7 when he started dance lessons in Nicosia and joined his school’s choir. He participated in various local talent and theatre shows in Cyprus, gaining a number of awards and distinctions for his performances. With Michael Jackson as his idol, Theo was inspired to develop his creativity and started writing his own songs as a teenager, adopting pop as his main direction and incorporating elements from the genre’s late king into his music and his dance alike.
After his graduation from a leading public school, namely The English School in Nicosia, Theo was empowered by his parents to make his motto of “Never compromise, work hard and follow your dreams – no matter how unattainable they might seem” a reality. In this regard, he moved to the United States to study music and performance at Berklee, one of the most renowned universities for the aforementioned fields, not only in America but internationally. He completed his university studies earlier than expected with distinction, something that did not go unnoticed by his professors, who selected him as an honorary guest at the university’s last three graduation ceremonies among the likes of Justin Timberlake, Missy Elliot, Pharell Williams, John Legend and other notable alumni. After his graduation, he opted to make Los Angeles as the city from which he could chart his own path into music.
“The Wall” the name of his first single was influenced by Reggaeton since it incorporates the musical rhythm of Dembow. Inspired by Stromae, the song’s production makes use of electronic music elements. This was followed by two new releases, namely “Save Me From Myself” and the “Dark Side”, a darker route than his initial single since both songs regard the self-destructive tendencies of today’s mankind and the cry for help that is so crucial for our mental health and wellbeing.
Theo also ventured into the acting world with a brief participation as an extra in HBO’s TV series “Euphoria”, as a stepping stone into this equally creative field.”
The verses are quite cool, and the choruses a hard dance tune. Nice video as well. Wonder how this could convert to a live performance.
Wow there’s like 2 remaining songs and I cant even put together a top 3 this year. What’s up with the quality in 2025!?
I’m so sick of Cyprus sending diaspora people who are so far removed from Cypriot culture and it shows in the songs they send. This song is not good. When is the last time Cyprus actually sent an artist from Cyprus?
He is actually from Cyprus for once.
Can we talk about the 21% lead of Sweden in the odds? Everyone commented how they ruined their chances of winning with choosing KAJ.
Well, it’s gone viral in many parts of Europe on Spotify. Mostly in the Nordics, Baltics, central Europe, And had place 138 of new music on the global chart. But does that make it a win for Sweden? But I can’t see no other country has done this so far.
And that has made it nr.1 most viral song in the world at the moment.
Thanks but no thanks!
“Putting some pieces together” clearly was the motto when creating this song. I like parts of the lyrics, but I wouldn’t want to listen to the song again. No idea how it will do, it’s not bad.
We’ve nearly got all the songs released but the best entry is still “Espresso Macchiato”…………….what went wrong this year?
It wasn’t even Estonia’s best.
Show me any of the beloved female bops that has received the 83% of the vote which “Espresso” has received, and I will very seriously and respectfully address your claim
I don’t base my own taste on how others vote and I hardly ever enjoy female bops unless they’re Fuego. 🙂
It is.
It is Estonia’s best option.
calling Espresso Macchiato the best entry is a take
Espresso Macchiato may not be the best, it surely is in the top 10 best entries though. And people disagreeing with that are purely in denial.
people can disagree simply because they like other songs more lol
But there is not much around to like. Most songs aren’t listenable.
thats funny when you say Espresso Macchiato is the best entry
This is what we get the most of the time when too many different composers work together for a sake of creating ESC song, a total Frankenstein song. It’s like they all composed one smaller part and then just conected them together. Very bad.
I agree, this is actually last year winners effect, copied style, but cheap fake version, Cyprus never won in so many years, Turkey, Greece, Finland and Portugal managed their first victory after long years of participating with very good songs and performances, when will Cyprus ever win and I can say congratulations, but they need to stop this format, watching previous winners and copying them, that won’t work, sorry Cyprus, Greece give you 12 points encouraging you with ones gets low marks not helping you at all
This is literally the first time we send similar to last year winner this is not the problem of us not winning so far.
It’s mostly because we send songs so far away from our culture.
I got a panic attack when I pressed play. And I’m not joking. 🙁
Bad experience in a hotel corridor? I hear ya
This song is like Gemma Collins. You either love it or hate it.
Not worth the hype though, in my humble opinion.
It’s such a weird year. I think the song which make top 5 in both jury and televote will win. It might be a surprise like in 2011
At this point even Slovenia can win 🙂
Cyprus 4,5/12
It’s not bad, it’s contemporary, but I am not impressed. After the first listen, to be honest, I did not want to listen to it again.
Not my cup of tea. He may dance well but the song itself is a bit messy (and at times annoying).
Plus, it struck me that it’s like The Code remixed (at some points, I could even sing The Code and that matched the song).
Good luck, Cyprus!
What an annoying song!
Meh. It’s noisy and lacks any heart or soul. Cyprus has been going for style rather than substance in the past years; at least Silia Kapsis had some charm last year which this, to me, doesn’t.
it will qualify but i am predicting 21st to 26th in the GF
She ain’t no whistleblower girlll..!
The song is meh unfortunately
Also, he really like tank tops. I don’t think he has anything else in his wardrobe.
I bought a tank top once. Forgive me
you could just borrow one from Theo
Any News from georgia?
they have withdrawn
the beginning is really cool and interesting. I like the instrumental, but the chorus drags it down for me. I could see this growing on me. I don’t think it’s as bad as people say.
So disappointed with my country this year. This is sooo NOT cypriot. It’s too noisy and too scandinavian. And we are Mediterranean. I hope the Cybc will remember this one day soon.
Scandinavian, nope. Noisy and a bit annoying, yes. CYBC must change the approach to Eurovision.
Off topic but Have Georgia forgotten to organise an entry?!?
like where are they? you haven’t heard anything from them
I’m not sure about the song but if this was a trailer for a new series, I would definitely watch it! A very intriguing video and storyline.
Musically, it’s probably as polished as his reflection, but lyrically, it’s giving Disney prince with an Instagram following.
The opening to the song is very Nemo 24 but it then mutates imo to Faithless Insomnia. I kept waiting for ” I can’t get no sleep” lyric. This is not a critizism as i do like this song. It is going to be interesting were this song is placed as it is in the same half as Belgium so comparisons there as well. Cant wait for the hidden secret or is Fuego to obvious.
Sorry but meh.
Again Scandinavian songwriters. It’s every year the same with Cyprus. Don’t they have any talented songwriters themselves? It feels very unauthentic.
This is the successor to Sandro’s Running 2020, but much more ambitious. I think with good staging this could qualify.
Yeah, that’s what it reminded me of, but much more boosted.
Qualify? Yes. But that hyped to be Top-10 in odds. That’s odd (pun intended).
I don’t know how I feel about this and that’s probably the worst thing I could say. I don’t see it qualifying.
Who does Theo remind me of?
I guess if Rami Malek and Nick Jonas had a son.
The guy from Riverdale?
The head and shoulders advert guy
We don’t need an entry promoting narcissism. Some part of the instrumental are not bad, but the song itself is terrible. What ever happened to Cyprus and their good quality songs?
So ” Hush Hush ” made it to ESC?
Boom Boom Chiki Chiki:)
I thought the song was called “Hush” because he sang it many times. I watched the video when it premiered on Youtube.
Same here. And I didn’t know if it was with an A or a U.
The most interesting thing about this song is the tease of a big artist reveal, and all the lyrics revolving around that. My first instinct is Eleni Foureira (the match and the fire in the video makes that maybe too obvious a choice), but whoever it is they better be a big star and recognizable! I think Theo did study at Berkelee in the USA so maybe he has some connections…
It starts so strong and unconventional yet falls far behind as it progresses, it’s respectable but nothing extraordinary. Commonly used beat and also sounds a bit disjointed after it passes the 1:30 mark. Still enjoyable, I’d give it a 7/10. But, if this is to be compared with Strobe Lights, Red Sebastian might have an advantage with the complete absence of pre-recorded vocals.
I still prefer it over Strobe Lights as a purely radio-centered song, of course.
At last, the first semi final is complete. Here is my running order prediction (including the automatic qualifiers Italy, Spain and Switzerland):
1. Iceland
2. Portugal
3. Estonia
4. Ukraine
5. Spain
6. Slovenia
7. Poland
8. Sweden
9. Italy
10. Cyprus
11. Al ban ia
12. Azerbaijan
13. Croatia
14. Switzerland
15. Norway
16. San Marino
17. Netherlands
18. Belgium
This isn’t set in stone, as I could change my mind and rearrange songs, and the real thing could be very different than what I proposed here, but let’s speculate.
Seems realistic!
I want Justyna to open. Firstly, it would be perfect for that, it has everything. Secondly, the history book on the shelf is always repeating itself…
Or even better, she opens the grand final.
I get it, because Justyna opened Eurovision 1995, but I personally think Gaja is too intense to be an opener. We want to invite people in, not scare them off from watching the rest of the show. That’s why I picked Iceland to open semi final 1 because it’s the perfect choice to get the party started.
What’s with Georgia?
I bet we’ll probably know by Saturday the same time as France releases their song.
Georgia are usually very last minute. France 2024 was one of the first out of the gate, way back in December 2023.
You’re wrong. France revealed their song in 8 November 2023, way before anybody else. Now they are the last to reveal their song. Funny how things get reversed.
True, Georgia is usually one of the last countries out of the gate to release their song, but I am surprised we still don’t know who’s competing for Georgia at this time. We usually know that even if they are the last country to release their song, so I don’t know what’s up.
I noticed that it’s a D minor dance track (like Stefania’s “Last Dance” and “Supergirl”). I can tell a lot of effort was put into this one, so bravo on that. If I’m honest, I don’t feel this song on the first listen. I sense it is designed for a big live reveal, so it has the potential to surprise us with something live. But on its own, it’s just kind of “there” for me at the moment. (I’m really sorry, I wanted to feel something from it, but I just don’t.)
No need to be sorry!
This sounds like it will be directly competing with Belgium. However, Strobe Lights nails it from start to ending, it has a clear vision, this…? I don’t know what to say about this tbh, it’s a bit all over the place.. :/
I think Belgium will closer out semi final 1 because what better finale song than a rave?
The song is not too bad, but a bit forgettable. However, I think it will elevate on stage with a dance routine. It’s giving Israel 2017 vibes, it will be enjoyable live but I don’t think it will do incredibly if it gets to the Grand Final. Out of the few contemporary male dance songs this year, I think Norway has the edge over this.
Ngl this song kinda slaps! Can’t say it’s as impactful as previous Cypriot entries and I’m not sure about its qualification chances, but good luck to Theo and his team.
When you forget that you have to present a song and just take it from the show you’re watching. And that show seems to be Doctor Who, if you go for the MV vibes.
I was thinking more Dune than Doctor Who because of the desert setting.
Watching the music video again, I think I get what you’re talking about. And I’m the big Whovian of this fanbase.
i suspect they will use those pre-recorded vocals
This is underwhelming, feels rushed and disjointed. Liked the premise (both musically and lyrically) but I’m sure something better could’ve been worked out and released earlier
This is a bit of a lazy entry. It sounds like background music in a mall. I also think the video clip, probably by mistake, makes Theo look narcissistic. It doesn’t work in his favor.
That’s a great entry, to be honest. But I find it quite tricky and could get complicated to be live performed. We’ll see in May if he’ll be able to deliver. But the track itself it’s outstanding…
Yes yes yes, I need a bit more uptempo Europop in the contest. This makes a late entry into my top 10, welcome Cyprus.
I don’t understand this song at all.
From what I can make out: “Hello, I’m here, but you can’t tell anyone my name. I am beyond life and death; I am divine. Please don’t tell anyone.”
So, does that mean Theo is… No, I won’t spoil the reveal. 😀
Well he’s cute. Is he a friend of Dorothy’s?
What’s this comment? The 60s?
Is he a flaming homo? Is that better?
Ok language police!
I actually prefer this song compared to Belgium’s — the live performance will either make this a top 10 contender or a flop. But will be a hit on my Spotify regardless!
I like the beat but overall I’m not a fan. Not sure about the talky verses, but the chorus is kind of catchy. Borderline Q
