Last night Belgium selected its final four semi-finalists. The results were interesting, but so was all the drama and chatter and hoopla surrounding the event.

In the days after the second call back last week, rumours were still swirling about idea who’s behind anonymous masked group Day One. The latest rumours suggest Katerine Avgoustakis, who participated in the Greek ESC national contest in 2010, and Alana Dante, who took part in Belgium Eurosong in 1999. The Katerine rumour was fed by this short clip of Day One, in which you can hear Katerine’s song ‘Here come all the boys’. The rumour of Alana Dante is to be taken less serious, as it was implied by the band itself, after they posted a photo online.

Anyway, the manager of Day One complicated matters this week when he suddenly stated that the band doesn’t have a regular lead singer and that they perform with a different guest-singer every show. Since this is against Eurosong regulations, the manager later withdrew the statement under pressure from VRT.

That wasn’t the only drama this week: opinions were divided about Miss Belgium Eurovision Kate Ryan performing in Sochi, and everyone was wondering whether Ruslana would be present as a jury member. As you’ll recall, political unrest in Ukraine had Ruslana tied up.

We didn’t had to wait long for the confirmation on Ruslana, as the broadcast started with ‘Wild Dances’. Ruslana was present and has never looked better, people! Belgian viewers were even treated to a live performance! She said that she is delighted to be here and gave a lot of kisses and love to Belgium. We love you back, Ruslana!

I couldn’t care less for this fame-hunter One Day mystery … what I can’t handle is how 10 years after no one has bothered to tell Ruslana that she can’t sing and jump up and down at the same time … it’s just awful … besides the songs being cheesy enough. One of those everlasting mysteries in Eurovision I will never understand …

This Day One concept is very intriguing! The singer has a great voice. This act could be the saving grace for Belgium.
