As y’all know, we’re rather partial to a good ole fashioned Eurovision cover. Whether it be a scrumpy and western version of “Ooh Aah…Just A Little Bit” or a Vietnamese take on “Wild Dances”, all covers are welcome in the House of Wiwi. And following on from this year’s contest, we’re all country and folk (or as some might say – honkey tonk) aficionados too. So needless to say, when a country Eurovision cover landed in our inbox our interest was piqued.
Up and coming Irish country singer, Lee Matthews, has released his own version of Katrina and the Waves’ Eurovision winner, “Love Shine A Light”. Don’t worry if you’re averse to the genre, this is lite – think Westlife via Nashville. It makes for a pleasant 3 minutes, which is just as well, because it’s all for charity – the more people that like it the better!
The song’s core message of love and hope is being used to help promote and raise funds for the “Join Our Boys” trust, a charity set up to increase awareness of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Full details can be found in the links below. The track is already proving to be quite a success, and has even dented the Irish charts. We wish Lee and his team the best of luck in their fundraising efforts for this worthy cause.
So what do y’all think of this country spin on the 1997 winner? If you want to compare and contrast here’s the original.

It actually sounds lite’n’cool. And it is for a freaking good cause!
Here’s where easy, catchy tunes belong 😉
