While New Year’s Eve may have a different feel to it for many in 2020, there’s one thing that hasn’t changed – the Eurovision Top 250 countdown. As always, the results of the ESC250 2020 poll, where fans pick their favourite 250 entries from the contest’s history, was broadcast throughout the day.

The big question of the day was whether Eurovision 2012 champion Loreen would once again emerge victorious, and in the end she did. Her song “Euphoria” has now come out on top of the countdown for the past nine consecutive years – that’s also known as ‘every single year since Loreen won Eurovision’.

Following the cancellation of Eurovision this year, many wondered if the 2020 entries would have stuck in the minds of fans when casting their ESC250 2020 votes. However, Diodato’s “Fai Rumore” managed to reach the top ten, placing eighth. The next highest 2020 contestant was Iceland’s Daði & Gagnamagnið, who finished 16th with “Think About Things”.

There were also a number of big rises for songs that had been featured over the summer and autumn as part of the #EurovisionAgain shows. In particular, Turkey’s 1988 representatives MFÖ rose 947 places in the ranking from last year and broke into the top 250 for the first time. They ended up at #184 with the song “Sufi”.

Voting for the ESC250 2020 countdown took place earlier this month. The full results were revealed by ESC Radio and Songfestival.be throughout the day.

I’m shocked! Where’s my #1? (Olsen Brothers – Fly on the Wings of Love)

Btw, the results with Maria Ólafs: Unbroken are clearly most fishy of all :DDDDD she went from #419 to #136 and according to the full results, she got 53x (!!!!!) twelve points, which is the nineteenth highest score of “12 points”. Then she got JUST 2x 10 points, 0x 8 points, 0x 7 points, 0x 6 points, 0x 5 points, 1x 4 points, 0x 3 points, 2x 2 points, 1x 1 point. I mean, this is so funny cause I would never ever vote for Unbroken even if they payed me for it. Especially with the terrible English version of… Read more »

Planet of Blue (Germany 1996) went from #1046 to #307. Very nice that all of the “semifinals” are being counted! Not like a really disappointing #EurovisionAgain -.-
(which even picked just 26 songs and nobody knows why just those and not one for each of the countries that at least once did not make it through, so unfair and the official eurovision channel always irritates me so much)

btw, Suzy is #497 (0 first places) and Conan Osíris #61 (21 first places)

“Mana Mou” was in 1997, not 1999.

I’m thrilled my top 4 of the previous year (Italy, Iceland, Bulgaria and Switzerland) were the highest rated entries of 2020.

judging by the amount of spanish songs that made it, it seems like many delulu spanish fans have been submitting lists entirely made up of their own songs lmao no other explaination really

Greta Salome won the non-qualifiers edition of #eurovisionagain but didn’t make it in this list.

Had ESC 2020 taken place, it probably would’ve been a fight between Iceland, Italy, Bulgaria, and Switzerland. The clear runaway favorites of the year. Looking forward to ESC 2021!

Actually, looks like Lithuania would be up there too

Yes yes. Lithuania too. The Roop were definitely contenders as well.

I’d say between Switzerland and Russia. I’d vote for the 1st but can see the mass appeal of the 2nd.

Eleni Foureira on 2, Salvador on 4, Keiino on 5, Jamala on 6, IL Volo on 10. WHY??? Come on there are so many BETTER songs than those five. ABBA is not even in the top 10, just like Loic Nottet, Secret Garden and The Commom Linnits! I literally have no words. So disappointed!!! But thank you for voting Pastora Soler into the top 10. At least there are three good songs in the 10.

Salvador has the biggest score in Esc.
Il Volo and Keiino.. Televoting winners. Epic performances.
Jamala won and over 300 points in televote.
Eleni always a big fan favourite.
All being high make sense I guess.
I really love Loïc, Common Linnets and Savage Garden that being said 🙂

Savage Garden did Truly Madly Deeply. Secret Garden did Nocturne. I’m sad they’re not in the top ten but I’m glad they’re still the highest-ranking act from before the 21st century.

It’s Azúcar Moreno, not “Acúzar Moreno”. Sorry for being a grammar nazi.

I’m so happy for Diodato!! Makes me wonder if he would’ve won the real contest.

I think he would have, it’s an amazing song. 8th place is very low if you ask me.

But at the same time, he beat out the mega fan favorites on the chart like Dadi and The Roop. His performance in Verona was breathtaking, and it was literally sung everywhere in Italy during its national lockdown to help keep people’s spirits up

I agree. I think the juries would have done a Norway 2019 to Iceland. Germany may have won jury vote.

Iceland would have done well with the jury (read Tonight Again, Hey Mama, Toy). Russia would have got more televotes as some in the south east May have blanked Iceland, but Iceland would have fared way better with jury.

I can’t take any poll seriously that places a string of recent average non qualifiers over serial classics like the 1972 and 1977 winners.

Well, this whole countdown is based on preferential votes by those who took part.

I bet majority of the voters only started watching in 2010s so there’s that. I’m happy for inclusion of every entry before semi-final era.

So pleased that KeiiNO held their position in the top 5. Duncan’s was a good entry but I think KeiiNO would have made a more memorable winner in years to come.

Obviously this year a lot of extra voters from spain as all their entries are on the rise.

Same goes for azerbaijan and armenia, but hard to imagine that has nothing to do with their stupid war.

I dont think that’s the case if the Armenian entry that had so much potential to be known well beyond Europe is 189th on this list. I have long remained adamant that Chains On You was a more realistic rival for Dadi than Lithuania or Russia (no disrespect to them, as i do have On Fire as my 4th place behind Armenia, Iceland and Malta), for similar reasons as to why Cyprus was Israel’s only title rival in Lisbon rather than Norway, Bulgaria or France (plus that I find Chains more inventive, intelligent and titillating than Fuego, which itself is… Read more »

Also, from the perspective of my opinion on Azeri entries, Truth should be way higher and Running Scared, whilst not the most profound or iconic winner, should be on the top 250, so, whilst not as profound a problem to me as the low position of Chains, Azerbaijan also has some ace songs not treated well on this list. So the conflict probably had no effect.

As much as I think Iceland were going to win in 2020, Italy getting the highest positions here shows that they had a chance of being the closest contender. That’s something I agree with but wasn’t quite sure was going to happen at the time.

How is Stay the only Moldovan song there? It should have been in the bottom 3 of its heat (no disrespect) not 12th, and the country has sent 10 entries that are many many times superior, particularly 2017, and also 2018, 2011, 2012 and 2005. Those 5 were brilliant fun.

she should have been way higher than 72nd. Not to everyone’s taste, but one of the true greats, along with Loreen, Salvador, Conchita and Foureira (and in my opinion, Joci, who was only 155th, and Athena, who was only 189th, should also be seen in the top 25 at least).

New year, same old winner, and so be it. I’m so happy such gems as “Bem Bom”, “Alle mine tankar”, “Fra Mols til Skagen”, “Stad i ljus” and “Siren” made the list. Funnily enough, there’s a thick fog here tonight, thus all you can see in the sky is a giant colorful impressionist blur, accompanied by drunk students’ shrieks. 2021 is gonna be interesting 🙂

well, not a surprise that Euphoria won again, especially since that wasn’t much competition from this non-ESC year. Still, Diodato managed to finish 8th, and I’ll drink to that!
Happy and healthy new year everybody!

Further proving my point that Italy would’ve won if the contest had actually happened.

Slight typo: Mor ve Ötesi was the band, “Deli” was the song, not the other way around.

Man, I love ESC250. Here’s hoping we have a new winner this year. I have nothing against “Euphoria”, it’s a good song, but it’d be nice to finally break the mold.

My votes: Belgium ’80, Ireland ’67, Norway ’86, Netherlands ’93, Denmark ’66, Portugal ’81, Finland ’77, UK ’83, France ’94, Greece ’93

Ireland 1967? Wow I’m impressed! A beautiful song possibly overshadowed by that year’s winner.

One of my all-time favourites, I hope one day I’ll get the chance to see those hills of Clare for myself. Sean Dunphry and his band recorded so many beautiful songs, like “Valley of Knockanure” or “The Lonely Woods Of Upton”… I wasn’t sure whether to put this or “Prisluhni mi” on my ballot, but I think Dunphry’s entry best represents a timeless love ballad, a musical gift that keeps on giving as you get older.

I sure hope you do! Dickie Rock (!) 1966 was also nice and stands the test of time. I also think Ireland 1969 was no better or worse that the 4 multiple winning entries.

189? Really? It should be at least 19th. I have stated clearly why I think it shouldn’t have been written off many times.
