Sofia Coll - Here To Stay
Sofia Coll – Here To Stay

Benidorm Fest 2024 kicks off on the sunny shores of Spain’s south east coast this Tuesday, with the first of two semi finals to take place. Sixteen acts will battle it out for the coveted Spanish ticket to Eurovision, with each artist’s song released to listen to last December.

Ahead of the competition kick-off, we asked y’all who you should win the Benidorm Fest crown and represent Spain at Eurovision this May. And after counting and verifying 5,945 votes, the results are in, and one act is here to stay.

Sofia Coll the favourite to win Spain’s Benidorm Fest 2024

Running away with the victory and cementing her place right at the top of our poll is Sofia Coll with her track “Here to Stay”. The power-packed diva pop song ain’t going nowhere, picking up 23.38% of all votes cast — which was 1,390 votes.

Hailing from Barcelona, dancer and actor Sofia Coll is one of the newest names on this year’s Benidorm Fest list, and one of the few independent artists. A song in Spanish, Catalan and English, “Here To Stay” is all about empowerment and Sofia letting y’all know that she perseveres: “Nothing will stop me from trying a thousand more times, until the end…”

Sofia Coll’s song is typical fanw*nk stuff. I way prefer St Pedro, he really has something special to offer.

According to most of the journalists seeing the rehearsals, Angy’s is the best performance of the first semifinal.

ST PEDRO

In a perfect world I would choose St Pedro’s Dos Extraños without hesitation but knowing the bad Euro Televoters taste regarding music, whoever goes IS ok with me.

The target public of “Dos extranos” would be more or less the same as that of “Amar pelos dois”. Sorry, but I’m not one of them.

Then they are most of the voters in Eurovision.

I doubt, we moved on. And St. Pedro is far from that level. And honestly, the number of comments and reactions to Benidorm this year shows how much people are interested into it – almost zero.

Hmm I don’t know where you’ve been reading the comments: I see plenty of people who have St Pedro as their favourite.

Out of the poll results, I’d be happy with any of the top4! (I also really like 6 & 8)

If Sofia is chosen, they may, I repeat MAY get a sizable televote response, but I do agree with some of the comments made, Benidorm Fest has been very weak this year, we have not had a stellar edition of the show since 2022, with the likes of Tanxugueiras, Rigoberta and others.

I think like the last 2 years–the most arresting staging/visual will win. Neither Chanel nor Blanca had much of a chance until they hit the stage. I think the songs feel more mid than the last 2 years so therefore, the staging will elevate some songs immensely.

I don’t think it matters, when they didn’t send Megara last year which would do so much better than Blanca, this year competition is even weaker. I don’t think they will be able to break top 15 whatever they send.

So the most stereotypical Eurovision entry wins the fan poll… choosing Sofia would be 100 steps backwards again for Spain… Spain should choose a contemporary song that can work also outside of Eurovision. Choosing “Here to Stay” would be like choosing “La Noche Es Para Mi” or “I Love You Mi Vida” all over again…thats how dated Sofias song is! But fans are blinded by stereotypical europop…

As if Eurovision followers were not quite stereorypical themselves… You just have to read comments, reviews and such: absolutely everyone reviews songs by relating them to other Eurovision songs: Dos Extraños is Amar Pelos dois, Here to Stay is Unicorn, Caliente is SloMo… Even the Irish girl people say IS like Telemoveis…

St. Pedro is going to be another Blanca Paloma.. I prefer to dance with Sofia at least!
After Eurovision 2023 is very clear that people wants to dance and a good time.. Blanka over Blanca in the televote was pretty much that when we ALL KNOW, that Blanca was way better as a musician and artist

I am so proud of Blanca Paloma’s performance! To be “another Blanca Paloma” is in fact something good for me.
I much rather like to finish 17th with a good performance than 7th (to put a number) with a medium one.

For me it’s Sé Quién Soy, Dos Extranos or Remitente, nothing else. Most of this selection is so barren of creativity, it’s shocking that Spain expects to leave the bottom 5 with so many options so unbelievably empty and meaningless

As if in Eurovision “creativity” was rewarded or even acknowledged.

To me is Remitente, Dos Extraños or Prisionero.
Looking forward to watch Benidorm fest this week!

I feel like She’ll wow us live but at the same time something will be missing and the Spanish people will go for St Pedro. However, i’m not a fan of either.

What is missing here is the song, but if she is extraordinary, the song may not matter any longer. It happened with an average song called SloMo.

Personally, Sofia and Alamacor’s songs are both Eurovision bait songs as they both follow a slightly cliche formula. The Spanish singing then random english part feels so weird and Alamacor’s song feels quite basic but also I can see them both being quite successful with the public. Hopefully the staging changes my mind

Yes they are and those type of songs have never worked well for Spain in Eurovision. They dont feel authentic at all…

It could be. But I can tell you that there is nothing more authentic to the Spanish 2024 music scene than Brillos Platino.
