In just a few days time, we’ll find out who will be representing Malta at Eurovision in Malmö. And now the first stage of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2024 grand final has taken place — the release of the finalists’ music videos.

This year, each of the 12 finalists was required to film an artistic music video, which Maltese broadcaster PBS contributed €5,000 towards. During a televised event on Thursday evening, these music videos were unveiled.

Watch them below and then let us know who you’re rooting for going in to the grand final of MESC 2024.

Scroll down to vote in our poll

MESC 2024: Grand finalists’ music videos

Denise Mercieca – “Mara”

Erba’ – “Sirena”

Gail Attard – “Wild Card”

Greta Tude – “Topic (Bla Bla)”

Haley – “Tell Me That It’s Over”

Janvil – “Man”

Lisa Gauci – “Breathe”

Matt BLXCK – “Banana”

Miriana Conte – “Venom”

Nathan – “Ghost”

Ryan Hili – “Karma”

Sarah Bonnici – “Loop”

Poll: Who should win Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2024?

You can vote for as many acts as you want. But you can only vote once.

MESC 2024 will culminate in the grand final on 3 February. However, as fans might recall, Malta has made some bold changes to its grand final format this year. For the first time, the grand final will not feature live performances at all. Instead, TVM will broadcast live-on-tape performances of the 12 acts, which will be pre-recorded on a specially dedicated stage at the PBS studios.

Based on the music videos and the live-on-tape performances, the Maltese jury and public will cast their votes for their favourite entry. Once all the votes have been cast, the winner of this year’s Malta Eurovision Song Contest will be announced, and one lucky artist will begin making preparations for their trip to Sweden.

Which music video is your favourite? Who do you think will emerge the winner on Saturday? Let us know in the comments below.

I like Denise, she has complete package especially on vocal. Her face impression and attitude is really good even her last year stage presence was good. But not sure with the song. I wish they add like 20 seconds more at the end.

Denise, Erba, Nathan, Sarah – If Malta goes for any of these four, I’ll have them well-positioned on my personal list. Could they qualify in a 100% televoting semi? I think they could. Especially Denise and Erba. Matt Blxck could also possibly qualify, but I am between the song being a guilty pleasure or just not my taste. Overall, this is a very solid NF. We did have to go through some really poor semifinalists before that, but the finals have potential.

I kinda want Janvil to win because I can’t remember a single male empowerment song on ESC.

Banana sounds like last place in the semi, sorry Malta. Choose internally next time as you have done with Destiny or Ira.

I think it’s still either Sirena or Loop for me. I reeeeeeally don’t get Matt Blxck’s appeal at all.

i don’t either, Matt is a joke act (those who get rejected in countries like you know Moldova, or even in San Marino)

Looks like Malta took notes, the revamps really improved the batch and elevated the songs. My favorites are Erbà and Nathan but anyone but Matt and Greta is a good choice imo

I just think there are endless staging possibilities for the ERBA girls with their Sirena song. They could do miracles with very basic and cheap but “expensive” looking staging with each girl having her own rock, fog, foam dress/costumes and camera cuts and light play. The Banana guy will probably have a billion bananas flying around if he wins. Why not play the Sirena card too?! I feel the song, but they clearly have to work on their performance. They should be playful, seductive and sexy! I feel like if they hit the mark with the staging, they could really… Read more »

I love Sirena but already during the auditions I felt like girls give us some energy, and in the music video I can still feel this lack of energy, so I don’t know, if Malta goes with Banana or Bla bla bla I give up.

Sirena is the studio cut I was most looking forward to, but you’re right… I don’t know what it is… but the energy is kinda muted in the video? Hoping the live on tape performance brings back some of the magic from the audition.

I didn’t miss a masterpiece, did I? The Malta marathon was not how I wanted to start my Eurovision season. There are certain things where I’m sure it’s best to pull a Laura and say here’s where I draw the line. Molodovan auditions, San Marino 1001 participants… this one also felt like that.

Masterpiece might be too strong a word, but I liked it. It’d have been nice to have her on the 30th anniversary of her representing Malta. She certainly deserved to qualify over many of the acts that did.

I know she also wrote Malta 1999, but I pretend that did not happen.

Malta has two options here:

1. Erba
2. Bottom of the semi-final for the second year in the row (last year was utterly unfair).

I love Sirena but i don’t know if its enough for qualification to the final. The la la la part is a bit distracting. I like a lot also Topic and Banana. In the end the Malta final seems like stronger competition than expected.

Sarah Bonnici surprised me very much in a good way. The song feels more coherent and has very high impact.
I feel like Denise, Erba, Matt and Sarah could give malta their qualification. These revamps sure amped up this selection

If they choose banana the only thing i will think and say about it is that we already had a banana song ? and that one was way better ?
I really like sirena and loop i am gonna depend on the live vocals to see who will be my favorite

Is the word ‘banana’ copyrighted now? Why does that mean it’s not original. There have been countless examples of songs with EXACTLY THE SAME name yet people didn’t care! In Moldova’s selection this year, there’s TWO songs with the name ‘Fever’ advancing to the final. And the name isn’t even the same as Give that Wolf a Banana.

So you guys used to write about each episode of the Next Star to Eurovision (Israeli NF) but ok, I guess you decided not to this year.
But we literally have our 4 finalists now… At least write about that… That’s not just another episode, we’re heading to the finale.
Come on Wiwibloggs, you’re better than that, I want to believe.

Is the winner getting their song afterwards or are they all getting a potential Eurovision song?

Unfortunately, just an artist selection this year.
So the winner will just get a song internally selected I guess.
Look at all those stupid downvotes as well… As if my question is bad in any way…
People are so sensitive nowadays.

think it’s between Mika and Or

who sounds most israeli and has most eurovision appeal

Eden is the best but her style isn’t too israeli and it is confirmed that the entry has to include lyrics in hebrew, so one of Mika, Or would be better choices

Roy Moreno

I think Eden can still deliver in Hebrew and she’s just so professional so she’s still a big contender
Mika and Or are super talented as well – one so gentle and the other powerful, I honestly wouldn’t mind either of these 3 to win it 😛
Generally speaking, I think it’s time we go back to singing in Hebrew a bit more, we really don’t have to sing in English to do well, that’s one thing I love UMK for – they managed to get great artists with high quality songs to sing in Finnish

I mean, why do you think they are not reporting on it and people are downvoting the repeated request to comment on it?

If Israel are going to insist on participating in the current climate then many people are going to simply ignore them.
