Malta has decided. Sarah Bonnici emerged as the winner of Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2024 and will be representing the island nation in Malmö with “Loop”.
In a change to past years of the selection, all the entries were pre-recorded. The 12 acts shared live-on-tape performances during the show on Saturday night.

Do you agree with the result? How do you think Malta will do at Eurovision 2024? Let us know in the comments below.
Hello Chanel! SloMo momomo… what a copy
Good Luck Sarah ?? you re a star!
I have been watching the Eurovision Song Contest since 1990, and I’ve been following National Finals since 2013. (So I’ve heard a lot of songs, and seen a lot of performances.)
My first reaction to this Maltese entry is: Yuck. I’m sorry that i feel this way; I just really don’t like this contrived song. The dancing is all very good, but I’m here for the song, the music, the drama and the love; it’s just not there for me. It’s probably my least favourite Maltese entry in 35 years (34 editions). Ouch.
I have heard it once and I am not sure I want to hear it again. Mind you it would have to go some to “surpass” my least favourite entry – the dreaded Tomorrow. And to think the ones of Breathlessly got 0 televote points. I love you Malta but you try too hard.
She copies Noah who copies Chanel who copies Eleni who copies Beyonce and so on and on …
danceable but forgetable. boderline non qualifier vibes from me.
I mean that’s really pretty good. I like it much more that 2023 guys
this is actually pleasantly surprising, some of y’all aren’t giving her the credit she deserves
is she gonna win? no…
but this could do pretty well if it’s perfected (i’d say it’s like 80% of the way there?)
Already a couple of songs like this, this year I don’t know which one stands out
Malta? Not bad at all. Not something to die for but it has kind of (not exactly) Chanel and Noa Kirel vibes (toned down a bit). With a better performance and staging it may go through to the final and that’s where the story ends.
Good luck dear Malta and I will keep saying this: bring DESTINY back with a song like All of my love!
It must be embarrassing for Sarah to be so wannabe that she copied Chanel’s choreography and everything.
So everyone that is capable to sing and dance is like Chanel now? Hellooo she copied others herself too sorry to say hers was not the first performance
Bieng from Malta- somewhere along the lines, there would have been coruption (hidden) in the selections and voting. I like the song, Sarah is good and well done to her- I hooe she makes GOZO proud! Perhaps the selection this year was meant to be for a Gozitan and next year a Maltese will be selected! Poor Aiden in 2023!!!!! I ask why has drag not been accepted? I ask why has a clearly gendered person not been accepted and shutdown? I ask why they gave the best music video award to those before the announced, winner- was it just… Read more »
Not for me by any means
In 2023 Malta went for something we’d seen before (a zany song with a sax break). I’m afraid they’ve again displayed the same unoriginality.
I now worry with all these potential girl bops at Eurovision whether Talli will qualify.
Luxembourg is much better than this.
Same level, not bad bad not fantastic
Yes, I can also see Tali qualifying. Her song is cute, frenchie, energetic, love it!
who? how did she win, is she from a rich family (wouldn’t be too surprised, given how corrupt TVM are, and how eager they want outside investors instead of paying for participation themselves)
this song is super silly, amateurish
lol
last place in semi again
next year pls a revamp and use Muzika Muzika as your selection process
and the answer is yes, her daddy is Marcel Bonnici, former chairman of Hamrun Spartans FC and the CEO of Mercury Towers, Malta’s tallest building located in St Julians (wonder if Emma knows her then? since she’s also from St Julians)
Sarah is born on the island of Gozo btw
Meh.
Tries so hard to be SloMo
There is always an audience for this kind of music , so it might qualify. For me personally…NEXT!!!
This seems like a Lidl version of Chanel’s Slomo.
Oh wow. I just listened to the song for the first time and I am impressed. I like it a lot.
Eh, it’s fine? But I don’t know. Something about it seems a little messy to me, …but at the same time it also feels a bit generic. Ever since Eleni I kind of feel like we always get at least one woman trying to hit that vibe each year but they can’t quite do it (and she’s probably trying to channel Chanel too…but isn’t really making that mark either)
Queen Miriana was robbed. Vocally and songwise she outplayed the rest of the bunch this year, but still she didn’t win. I really think that vocally & performancewise only she and Brooke could get Malta to the final. I’m sorry, but Sarah doesn’t do it live for me, still wish her the best of luck tho in Malmö
I have always been saying that Miriana was by far the strongest option for Eurovision and everyone was hyping this wannabe girlbop lol
Malta should internally pick her next year
I’m agreeing with all you’ve said. Her last 2 attempts were great, great songs with great vocals & good staging + she got nice stage charisma. I don’t know what else she should’ve done…
She seems to be a sweet girl but this is really an obvious rip-off of Chanel, only with a less better song. It would have been great if the song was actually good and more original. Not many other songs to contend with unfortunately. Good luck Malta
Chanel’s dancing was excellent the song was average
The girl is very talented and can move, the song is decent, she can make a good show in May I think, I quite like it.
I think this can be a surprise top 10
meh.
This was the only one of the finalists I actually liked. Qualifying for the final will be a challenge, but I wish them luck.
Malta 3,5/12
Definitely Malta best attempt since 2020. Good luck Malta.
Destiny’s both songs were the best Malta gave us for decades. Bring Destiny back to ESC! 🙂
Matt Black had a chance of making the final, purely because it’s so entertainingly trashy. Loop doesn’t have a hope.
Agreed
Agree!
Good luck to her, this stands a decent chance of qualifying. Was not going to inflict MESC upon myself so I didn’t see it live but hopefully she’s got enough time to put together a worthy performance. I do wish Malta would send something in Maltese or anything exciting in general but alas.
Can’t say I’m crazy for this, but at least it isn’t ‘Banana’. I would have preferred Erba’, though.
With a good staging, ‘Loop’ could be a borderline qualifier.
Much better songs than this through to Eurovision. Nowhere near as good as Nebulossa
Nowhere near as bad as Nebulossa, I would say. Good luck to both Spain and Malta, they will need it.
Such an obvious ripoff of Chanel…
I can’t tell if this is sarcasm or not but Chanel doesn’t own the rights to formulaic pop bops with dance breaks…
I dont think he said that she owned the rights….I think he meant that she did it first and did it so well that she broke the mould.
This song…let’s face it, is a watery wishy washy replication of Slo Mo.
I’ve just got round to watching her live performance, and although I don’t mind the song itsself, she’s the epitome of the saying “Go on girl, give us absolutely nothing!”.
Chanel wasn’t the first either. Cyprus did it before with Fuego.
Although i agree that Eleni triggered the start of all these newer girl bops with the ‘sexy’ performance element, thats where the similarity really ends. Fuego was a different breed of song and it was performed differently. Yes Eleni danced and performed the song beautifully, it was starkly different in the way it was presented. There was no real dance break that warranted technical dancing like Chanel did. Chanel was so much more technical and precise and the song structure was not the same. Also, Chanel elevated the performance. Malta’s attempt is very close to what Chanel delivered, but if… Read more »
So it was Eleni who started it all. No need to make mental gymnastics to try and say otherwise.
She doesn’t, but this is copied like from start to finish lol. It’s almost uncanny how identical it is.
People will think she ‘stole’ the idea. Just you watch.
When Malta does a better job picking its song than Spain lol
When that is nowhere near the truth. I’m not laughing out loud because it’s not funny…just true.
But Spain already picked a better version of Malta’s song in 2022, so Malta are two years behind.
Could’ve been worse. At least it’s not the banana song.
At least the televoters would remember the banana song
Not in a good way though
Her performance was electric.
Yes it is not the most original song but which song is original and completely new? Before Chanel there was Eleni.
Let’s give her full support, she is young and quite new. I believe she more than proved herself tonight.
meh
I’ve not really been a fan of Malta’s selection this year, although a couple of the songs are growing on me now after more listening. Surprised this one won to be honest (although that’s just my personal favourite). Its not a bad song at all, but it’s about four years too late. It sounds like music that’s been sent in recent years, which isn’t the best thing to do when you had Chanel do it so well. That said, it’s an innofensive slice of Vanilla that won’t place badly in May. I wanted Erba to win in all honesty, but… Read more »
Am I the only weirdo that believe Spain made the best decision tonight? (I mean that in terms of the entries they had to choose from in order to get a good Eurovision result, Norway for example would also have great odds in the contest with KEiiNO as they now have even greater odds for a top-3 with Gåte. Super Rob would also do well etc.)
Yes…but you’re not a weirdo…you have the right to your opinion…Spain might be looking at bad televote and bad jury results…that poor lady never hit that big note at the end in either Semi or Final
No I agree Spain best result tonight by miles.
Would be Ukraine if they choose Melovin tomorrow
help me understand how 78%/22% jury/televote works? those are very specific numbers…
guess it’s just Malta being Malta…pretending they are doing a national final when they technically do an internal selection and just rig everything to pick what the Maltese broadcaster wants…guessing the 20 shows they had this year was just an audition to see who they wanted to pick
and I do think LOOP is miles better than BANANA…but I like fairness and no hypocrisy…my personal favorite was still Erba’ but if I hear that it was the Maltese broadcaster who made them wear those cheap garments with holes in them then I stand by my claim that THE MALTESE BROADCASTER IS CORRUPT
time to change the song again
The other countries in semi 2 should be quite happy with this result.
Im so proud that my country had 5 decent songs in its final that had potential representing our country. 🙂 Tonight Malta fell in love with Sarah. She’ll do amazing!
I don’t think Sarah’s doing a bad job, but there’s literally nothing original or interesting about the song nor the performance.
78% jury vote and 22% public vote!
A total of 523 points were given out, the jury gave 406 points and the public 117 points
That’s not 50-50 to me
JESUS!
We were missinformed so terribly.
Would not have watched if I knew that beforehand
I like the music and Sarah’s voice and aesthetic but the lyrics need a massive revamp since they make this great bop sound cheap.
Well done best qualifier so far MALTA
I’m sorry to all fans of Loop, but I can’t find a single thing I particularly like about it. Is it super catchy on first listen? It’s not. Is it in Maltese? No. Does it have Chanel-like choreography? No. It’s literally in the middle of nowhere. Luxembourg is so far serving far better girlbop. This is basically like last year’s entry, everything is there, but still nothing to make you vote for it. And btw Malta better do internal selection next year cause this national final makes Malta meme country within fandom.
Last year’s entry was 100× times better. It has entered my personal list of the most robbed NQ semi-finalists in the history of Eurovision.
ALL OF THIS! ALLLLLLL OF THIS!!!! Tali will improve with time and will peak at the right moment, she already has the raw ingredients to produce something really special, unlike Sarah and Loco, which we have seen so many times before, unlike Matt Blxck and Erba they deliver things we haven’t seen before or have huge lashings of creativity, stage presence and charisma, not saying that Sarah Bonnici doesn’t have any of those things but, what she has presented feels incredibly lacklustre, it’s not her it’s just the song.
I hope Sarah gets a brand new song cause she’s got charisma and stage presence.
A good song doesn’t need all this, it stands out on his own.
Luxemburg is also generic I think
Matt or Ryan should have Won. Preferably Matt as Banana would of been far stronger in the Recaps and would have got Malta through the Semis. Now we have this SloMo rip-off by Chanel Lite which is just going to crash and burn.
Was not Unicorn also a rip off? So no one can sing such songs anymore after Chanel now?
You know what I meant, it’s a blatant copy of Chanel and SloMo. Unicorn was just a chimaera music of more than just Chanel, I had no idea why it even qualified let alone came 3rd overall. It was Frankenstein’s monster of Eurovision Entries.
Not necessarily. Malta is known for changing their nf winning song, so we might not even get to see Loop at ESC lol
“Malta is known for changing their nf winning song.” Malta has participated in the ESC some 35 times and it changed it’s song twice – not exactly a frequent occurrence, now is it?
There was nothing unique about Chanels song or performance. Stop propping it up as if it was some new innovation in Eurovision. She wasn’t the first and won’t be the last to use that format.
….and Chanel was a rip of Eleni Foureira. You see how ridiculous you sound?
