I absolutely love this. It didn’t really grab my attention until I watched the live performance in the semi, when I realised that this was the right choice for Spain. It’s fun, it has a hook and it grabs attention immediately, whilst being a well composed song, with a nostalgic 80s synthpop melody but a very modern touch at the same time. Sure, Maria might not have the best voice but she still sings correctly and she is very engaging performer. People forget that the juries are not only assesing singing abilities, but also originality and composition and “Zorra” ticks… Read more »

I actually think Sofia Coll had the right level of camp with a great dance track to it. I actually can’t remember the winning song off the top of my head. I’m probably the gay that this type of stuff goes right over my head. My favourites though were st Pedro and Angy. ?? love and light!

I liked it at first but it wore out too quickly and honestly it’s not worth the fuss it’s having in Spain. It’s Bershka-store tier music at best.

I usually don’t care about Spanish entries that much, and skimming through comments I had the impression it was going to be another bottom five song. But then I started playing the song and to my surprise, it’s actually the first song this year that I wanted to listen to more than once! I love it, it’s cool, funny and I can see it topping easily the public vote.

This is not about a perfect signing. Madonna can’t do that either. It´s more about empowerment. If there can be a Zorro, why can’t there be a Zorra? After Konstrakta, age +40 and Let 3 age +50…Spain claps back against agism! Good job Spain! 12 points from Croatia!

I dont get what the problem is with choosing this song, because Nebulosa can’t sing? Last year, Spain sent a masterpiece of song with a brilliant singer and excellent staging and ended in 17th place…behind a group of men in undies and disguised as hitler making a circus…This song is a bop compared to croatia last year. Definitely, this song wont win eurovision…but i doubt it will be low in the scores.

Misha

Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Zorra from first listen, but it’s definately not winning material. Staging is very weak, and her voice of course is not amazing. I’d say something like “nobody will understand the messege/meaning of song” but did we understand Dancing Lasha Tumbai, Shum and In Corpore Sano back then? I imagine it will have a similar fate as Baila el Chiki Chiki: just an internal joke in 17th/18th position. She wouldn’t have won as well, but the best option this season to me was Angy. I think she would’ve have ended 8th/9th easily

By reading discussions on Nebulossa and Gate I find it strange that same people are worried how people will understand Gate, but not worried how people will understand Nebulossa. Gate is so clean and easy to understand, you can immediately guess it is a fairy tail/folk Nordic legend, you think about magic, witches and fairies and when you read the lyrics you see you didn’t miss by much. Vocally, instrumentally and staging wise it is a complete package. On the other hand, Zorra sounds amateurish, music is generic and seen so many times on ESC. It has a message that… Read more »

I wouldn’t dare to compare both entries. In fact, I haven’t read anyone doing it here, but there are many comments. Both entries are so different, that can not be compared. Not their performances. The objectives of both are very different. Norway’has already a full package, but feel. Cold after hearing it. Spain’s has to do still some improvements, true, but it’s a banger catchy as hell and awakens a lot in me. If course, it’s not art. But well, Spain sent art last year and remember the outcome. Eurovision isn’t any more about musical perfection, but about awakening something… Read more »

The feel and taste is something I am not commenting on, as well as the point of ESC. Although objective song quality difference should be obvious to everyone. I am commenting on the topic of understanding non-English songs. There is no universe in which Zorra translates better than Ulveham by only watching the performance. The rest – some like artistic value, quality music and performance as a package, some like generic pop without caring about the execution. Different people, different taste. Who will be better we will see at the end. IMO Spain had a slight chance for maybe top… Read more »

” No, I don’t care about them all cause all” I know is that I believe in Zorra, the singer has not the biggest voice but no need to be La Callas to be successful in Eurovision, Kaarija wasn’t Pavarotti neither, the song has a great message, there’s a great story telling behind this couple, the fact that they go to Eurovision is a great statement against the ageism. The song is catchy, it will become viral, this couple will become totally iconic. And why the esc jurors wouldn’t give them points? I mean they have won the jury vote… Read more »

Honestly, I’m very divided. The lyrics of the song are interesting, and even necessary. I will always defend feminist songs that defend freedoms. The very 80s staging in the background is nice (the fluorescent drumsticks of the percussionist remind me a little of those of Sheila E during the 1985 American Music Awards). On the other hand, the music itself is very basic, very rhythmic, and is not very interesting. And sorry, I really don’t see the point in exposing the dancers’ butts. Spain had many options but Spain has chosen to send a song with a message , a song they love, a song they are proud of ,regardless of what the result may be in May…and that means a lot to the artists, to the people who voted for it and to the people who can relate to that message of self empowerment. The support Nebulosa has is priceless.I hope their message will come across in May.

Rewatching yesterday’s performances, I still cannot believe how Nebulossa won over Almacor or Angy. Pedro’s song was rather flat and soft – not necessarily a bad thing, but would it make 36 countries stop for awhile, listen to it, and then vote for it? Doubtful. And then there’s Jorge. I still think he’s a hottie, and, frankly, his song isn’t that bad. It’s just that links to Chanel come straight to mind, and you cannot stop comparing those two stagings. Not a masterpiece, sure, but a bop you’d not miss dancing to.

People said the same thing about ‘Amar Dois Pelos’ a few years ago, and look how that turned out.
Everyone slept on it because it was soft, slow, emotive and harked back to an era that was a long time ago. It was very ‘movie’ like.
Pedro’s song exhibits those very same qualities, so I could honestly seeing it do well, particularly after the initial bitc**ng and sleeping on phase passed. Then people would probably sit up and say that it was a masterpiece.

Results in Spain define everything, doesn’t matter how good or bad your quality is: if the final number is good, you’re treated nicely, if not, they eat you alive.

That was kind of rude and really, unnecessary. Perhaps you have had a bad day.

It’s a song that also competes in a European competition. Why do you dismiss any negative feedback?

The song is poor to mediocre ate best. Everybody loved Chanel, then you cared but now with a negative feedback you don’t care? It’s your choice of course to not care and it is also the European voters’right not to vote for it and award it another last place.

No….nobody loved Chanel at first. The Spaniards themselves went at her like a bunch of rabid dogs. They were awful to her. But when she delivered their best result in years, the Spaniards were suddenly all about her and how ‘amazing’ she was.

The exact opposite happened to Blanca Paloma last year. They were all about her and you couldn’t say anything negative about the song…….until the song bombed. Then THEY turned on their own artist.

The problem isn’t the song. The problem are the Spanish ESC fandom. And before I get savaged, you know that’s true!

I was afraid that Jorge might win, I’m so happy that we won’t send that $hitty proposal…

I was doing the math during the televoto and as soon as St pedro and Nebulossa weren’t dead last, it was done for either one of them (I didn’t like dos estraños, but I think it’s a good song to be proud of). Like I didn’t like ea ea from last year but it was a great performance.

I was rooting for Almacor because that represents the current Z music culture in Spain and the song it’s damn good

Nah. Jorge’s song was mediocre. They relied on their image and performance to try and carry that song. It just didn’t cut it. But I know the gays would eat it up and act like it was something incredible.

Spain needed something different this year. No point trying to create a Chanel moment again as it’s too soon and everyone else is trying to recreate that moment now top (Hello Malta!). Better to do something different than to send a weaker ‘slo mo’ template.

They have 3 months to work hard at their vocal. I’m sure they’ll have recognised from looking back at their performance that they weren’t the strongest.
Chanel had a similar issue when she first showcased her song. By May, she and her team had worked hard to turn that song in to one hell of a performance, both vocally and visually. I have faith that the same will happen here.

That’s not a very good example because you still call a female dog a “dog” in English. Spanish words have genders, you can’t call a female fox in Spanish anything but “zorra” so there really shouldn’t be an issue. A better example would be ass / donkey, perhaps, which I assume would still be allowed.
