Eurovision 2024 gets into full swing with the release of Joost Klein’s “Europapa,” a song that could easily become the party anthem of Eurovision 2024.
“Europapa” was premiered for the first time during a special broadcast of NPO 1 show De Avondshow at 16:45 CET, hosted by Arjen Lubach. Joost was present in the studio, where he had his first interview about the song.
The song will also appear on the official Eurovision YouTube channel from 16:55 CET.

In a press release sent by the broadcaster, Joost explained the song and music video this way:
âEuropapa is about an orphan who travels throughout Europe (and beyond) to find himself and tell his story. At first, people don’t recognise him, but he goes on seizing any opportunity he gets to let himself be seen. Europapa is a tribute to my father. When bringing me up, he passed on to me an expansive view of the world.â
âThe Eurovision performance will be a full-circle experience, turning sorrow into elation. When people see my act, their first response should be: “What’s going on here?”, but then only to find themselves moved. An invitation to dive deeper. At first glance it seems a very happy act, but beyond that lie blood, sweat and tears.â
AVROTROS had this to say:
“Through the song he is saying there are no limits if you want to make your dreams come true and tell your story. The song is a madcap mix of nostalgia, melancholy and happiness, delivered with the poetic lyrics and catchy beats for which Joost has become renowned.”
“Europapa” was produced by Teun de Kruif (Tantu Beats), with a special contribution from DJ Paul Elstak, one of the founders of happy hardcore and the man behind the megahit Rainbow in the Sky. Joost wrote the lyrics himself with input from his good friends Donnie and Tim Haars.
Often compared in style with KaĂ€rijĂ€ (Finland 2023), with whom Joost happens to be friends, fans expected something as addictive as last year’s “Cha Cha Cha,” and they won’t be disappointed. Joost showcases his outstanding rap skills in this track, which mixes R&B and pop vibes with a strong electronic sound. The song has strong potential for radio play.
“Europapa” was one of the most anticipated songs to be released in the Eurovision 2024 season. Despite its festive and humorous vibes, Joost took his Eurovision mission seriously and delivered everything, as the song was intended for Eurovision from the start. His new song is undoubtedly a modern art masterpiece in Dutch clothes, mixing party and nostalgia together.Â

I love it! After listening I was in such a blissfull mood! Italy still my no.1 but this is top 5 for sure.
I’m honestly positively surprised! I expected a half-baked trainwreck akin to the likes of Sieneke and the Toppers, but this is surprisingly good! It’s still absolutely not my thing, but it’s memorable in a good way, and there’s a genuinely touching backstory to this song.

Wine Was Not Enough
Out of the many messy songs we have this year, The Netherlands is bringing a more pleasant sound than other countries. It’s a pity that many people will not relate to the lyrics unless they have a translation (he should have included more references in other languages as in the sentences in German and Italian), but otherwise, this deserves a better place than other joke entries which are a bit more unpleasant or strident to the ear.

Those people are just lazy (not doing research before writing). Joost was already making this music way before Kaairija and its a total different genre that is mainly popular in the NL, Belgium and Germany. This has zero to do with Kaarija. If people were doing research they would know. Mark my words: Joost will do better than most fans think atm.
The song is trending in different countries and has already 2 million views on YouTube. I get that this is totally not the taste of a big part of the traditional Eurovision fans, but we should not underestimate this. The song has everything and is unique. Hardcore, fun parts, a big change at the end and a deep layer of raw emotions.

Sure, Finland didnt make an inspiring choice but the singer of the duo is doing quite a nice job and I refuse to believe that itâs a worse song than this one right here. Yes Finland IS worse, because we know already how the Finnish staging and vocal performance is, both of which were bad. Vocals were aweful, the staging was cringe and the outfits were some of the worst ever seen on a Eurovision stage. The entire package is just taking the piss out of Eurovision, which I find insulting and provoking more than fun. I dont like the Dutch song either that much, but there is still a chance that this will come across better live than the Finnish song. I love this as someone who grew up in the ’90s/early 2000s I get the sense of nostalgia from those kinds of music in a language I don’t know but can convey so much.
