Silia Kapsis is ready to break free from a fake world in her Eurovision 2024 entry, “Liar”, which has now been released for all to hear.

Ever since Silia was announced as the internally selected candidate to represent Cyprus, Eurovision fans have been eagerly anticipating her entry. Broadcaster CyBC previously teased us with a snippet of the music video, but now we finally have the full song.

The song and music video premiered on CyBC’s website at 17:00 CET. It appeared on the official Eurovision YouTube channel one hour later.

Silia Kapsis – “Liar” (Cyprus Eurovision 2024)

Silia’s “Liar” is not dedicated to a person, contrary to the initial expectations of anyone who saw the title. Instead, it’s a song full of meaning that represents a myriad of fake situations imposed by today’s artificial and superficial reality. Her song addresses issues such as body shaming, sexuality, and various forms of oppression.

The song is composed by Dimitris Kontopoulos and Elke Tiel. Kontopoulos has composed a significant number of Eurovision hits, including two runner-ups in the competition: Ani Lorak’s “Shady Lady” (Ukraine 2008) and Farid Mammadov’s “Hold Me” (Azerbaijan 2013). His latest Eurovision entry composition was Stefania’s “Last Dance” (Greece 2021).

Silia’s song speaks about how people are stuck in a fake world and the attempt to break free from all the stereotypes that confine them. The song contains references to issues such as body shaming and sexuality. Silia has been open about the significant influence that social media has on young girls and hopes that her song will bring truth while leaving behind the façade of fakeness.

Her strong message is packaged in a fun concept that turns this song into a real banger, and the dance break leaves us all speechless. It’s undoubtedly a track with huge potential to become a TikTok trend and gain even more popularity due to the ease of creating choreography for people to follow.

Speaking of dancing, we have to mention that Guy Groove was the choreographer. He is well known for his work with stars such as the Jonas Brothers and Shakira.

The music video is directed by Kostas Karydas. Through Silia’s eyes, we witness a series of expressive situations imposed by social media. In the second part of the music video, Silia reacts to these situations, rocking the boat and daring to live her truth while also inspiring others to join her in a celebration of liberation from such falsehoods. The music video was filmed at the City of Dreams Mediterranean resort.

What are your first impressions of “Liar”? Will Silia be taking Cyprus to the grand final at Eurovision 2024 in Malmö this May? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

There have been quite a lot of songs in ESC in the last 10 year sung by women, telling us how bad men are in relationships, if a guy sung a song about women’s bad behaviour we’d never hear the end of the criticism.

This the sort of song that juries and televoters will give a similarly high score to, there won’t be much disagreement between the two sides. Of course it still needs a powerful performance and an assured vocal, which is where Tamta was good but a little underwhelming, but a quick Youtube search shows Silia is a great dancer with a lot of energy. She’s no Whitney Houston, vocally, but she is capable of holding a tune, and with the help of pre-recorded backing vocals at Eurovision, (they are there, like them or not,) the package will come together quite well.… Read more »

She is in SF 1 isnt it, the semi of death??
With no back up from the greece televotes??

And there we have Tali from Luxembourg in kinda same niche as well as Serbia.

I dont see it that all of them will qualify.

This young girl at the start if her career shouldn’t get this trash to present it on Eurovision. One of the worst songs in the contest. I don’t think even Eleni Foureira level of performance can save this from NQ.

I’d say borderline NQ due to the fact Tali exists in 2nd half of the same semi and is also representing the fresh and returning country which Luxembourg so idk

There’s room for both in the final. Fighter is the better song, but stage presence wise Silia eats most performers up, she’s a professional dancer. We’ll see.

Generic Scandipop circa 2016 style song. I’m surprised we don’t have more of these after Tattoo’s win last year. Enjoyable, it’ll only stand out with a great performance. There’s potential for it, considering Silia is a professional dancer.

Okay, Switzerland sounds way better to me now after checking out this one. Heard it all before, seen the dance routine with the male hunks a hundred times before and I don’t even listen to this music outside of Eurovision. Cyprus will polish their staging and might make the final again, somewhere mid like Andrew or low like Tamta’s televote but I find it insipid.

Even worse than Cyprus previous attempts with female bops. “Liar” sounds so dated and uninspired. I’m not sure if it can even reach the final.

For months I’ve heard about how Cyprus were going to bring it, and she’s brought something that’s typically expected from Cyprus that is polished and formulaic of their past entries. Not offensive at all and I’m enjoying it, but it just lacks soul. Aside from the fantastic production, it all seems a bit expected. I read how people were saying she’s an amazing dancer and how her performance will elevate the song. That may be so, but Kaleen has just dropped her 90’s inspired dance-heavy banger, and from the leaked dance rehearsal footage of the routine she is bringing for… Read more »

Giving me heavy early 2000s vibe..
It is like Destinys Child doing a Christina Aguilera “Fighter”-song… i have no idea who this song is going to appeal to in Eurovision though. Noone is going to relate to it…and it is not an obvious party bop either. It might struggle to qualify in my opinion..

It’s actually better than I expected: pretty strong girl bop with a nice thick beat in the verses, choreo in the video looks promising. Don’t know yet if it’s a definite qualifier since the semi is pretty stacked, but tbh I expected Cyprus to be a definite NQ and this has possibilities.

Not my cup of tea but this is going straight to the final. Apart from Croatia and Ukraine, there is no other sure qualifier from semi 1. Some of you ignore the fact that Cyprus failed only once to get through to the final since 2015 . Cyprus is stronger than you think. Surely not a winning song but entertaining nonetheless

Another law that is going uphill in the EU. Germany, France and Italy have blocked the directive with which the EU intended to put a stop to the violation of human rights and the negative impact of large multinationals in third countries. Berlin, which was the first major country to withdraw from the agreement reached with the European Commission and the European Parliament in December, has dragged along Paris and Rome, thus making it impossible to ratify the due diligence directive (CSDDD). acronym in English), which contemplated fines for large companies that failed to comply with their obligations in relation… Read more »

I’m a bit underwhelmed. From the snippet I was expecting a banger of the year. The final product is not as cohesive as similar songs that came before, like Replay, for example.

I know this song is formulaic, but I really enjoy listening to this variant for some reason. I think it’s because I want to sing the pre-chorus and the chorus, and probably because I have known a lot of liars in my life. So, it’s relatable.

The only problem with Cyprus is that it’s trying too hard. After falling to win in 2018 and let’s face it, they deserved to win, they have been trying to win like so hard. This is a good song. Silia is a good dancer and it’s definitely a grower. Better than Europapa for sure. But my advice to Cyprus is chill and you will get there. Just like Portugal did.

I don’t necessarily hate the song – it’s so formulaic, it’s hard to have any strong opinions about it – but isn’t Cyprus doing the same thing every year? I understand that all countries have a “shtick” : my homeland, Ukraine, sends something folk with modern edge every year since 2020 , but I wish more participants broke out of their bubbles. One idea only works three times in a row. Maybe, four. But if it’s a fifth round it just gets stale.

That’s definitely an improvement from the many last years (ahem, since Foureira – exception last year, too) and it’s a good pop-dance song.

I am afraid it’s a bit generic and won’t stand out much unless she gives a vocal and choreo performance to remember.

There’s just one spot in the Top-10 or Top-5 for a dance bop. Will it be Cyprus? Not sure.

Good luck Cyprus!
