Eurovision Stars Top iTunes Charts Across Europe

Posted on 02 Jun 2010 at 4:11pm

It’s only been four days since the Eurovision final, but the 2010 contestants are already topping the iTunes charts across Europe. Germany’s Lena Meyer-Landrut looks set to capitalize big on her Eurovision victory. “Satellite” currently tops the charts in seven countries (Austria, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Ireland, Luxembourg and Sweden). Versions of the song have hit #3 and #6 in Germany, #2 in Belgium, Norway, Spain and Switzerland, #4 in the Netherlands, and #8 in Portugal.

France’s Jessy Matador placed 12th at Eurovision with “Allez! Ola! Ole!”—his up-tempo dance number that induces booty-shaking and public drunkenness. He clearly won over a lot of fans. His single is already #2 in Finland, Germany and Greece, #3 in Norway, #4 in Luxembourg, #5 in Belgium and #9 in Sweden.

Belgium’s Tom Dice placed sixth at Eurovision with his Tracy Chapman-like acoustic sound. He’s currently #1 in Belgium, #5 in Germany, #6 in Luxembourg, #8 in Norway, and #9 in Ireland.

Here are the rest of the chart-toppers:

Moldova’s Sunstroke Project with Olia Tira with “Run Away”: #6 in Norway, #8 in Finland

Romania’s Paula Seling and Ovi with “Playing With Fire”: #7 in Norway, #7 in Sweden

Spain’s Daniel Diges with “Algo Pequenito”: #8 in Spain

Sweden’s Anna Bergendahl with “This Is My Life”: #9 in Norway

Greece’s Giorgos Alkaios and Friends: #4 in Greece

Azerbaijan’s Safura with “Drip Drop”: #7 in Greece

Turkey’s maNga with “We Could Be The Same:” #10 in Greece

Denmark’s Chanée and Tomas N’evergreen with “In A Moment Like This”: #5 in Norway

Why Are Eurovision Stars Covering Leona Lewis?

Posted on 23 May 2010 at 10:56am

If imitation really is the greatest form of flattery, then Leona Lewis should feel really good about herself. Two of Eurovision’s most promising contestants covered Leona’s single “Bleeding Love” during their rise to national prominence. Neither does the song justice, but Wiwi gives them an A for effort. And for ego: it takes courage to perform a song owned by a true diva!

Sweden’s Anna Bergendahl on Swedish Idol in 2008. This song is way too low for her. She sounds like she has a cold and she looks like she needs a toilet. Not convincing.

Belgian Tom Dice covered “Bleeding Love” for his first single. Here’s the official video:

The real deal. This is Leona performing at the 2008 Brit Awards:
