At Eurovision 2011, there’s nothing better than seeing double. That’s because Ireland is fielding identical twins John Paul Henry Daniel Richard Grimes and Edward Peter Anthony Kevin Patrick Grimes—the blond-quiffed pop stars y’all know as Jedward. Wiwi spent some time with the chart-topping brothers recently—and he’s still exhausted! I’ll publish the full interview later this week, but for now here are some videos and pics that offer a glimpse into life on Planet Jedward.
John and Edward always travel in style, so I wasn’t exactly surprised their publicist said they were staying at the swanky Charlotte Street Hotel in London’s Soho. We met in the restaurant where the boys were having breakfast. At some point John ran off to get some grapes. Edward talks seriously fast when he’s excited, but made it clear he could hold his own without his brother. “It’s really weird, okay, because John’s voice is gone, but I’m taking over, so everything I say represents him. Basically we always represent each other and so we’re, like, a copy of each other.” Did you get all that?
Towards the end of the interview the boys were very keen to sing “Lipstick” into Wiwi’s iPhone. Despite complaints from their team, we snuck off to a hallway and the boys rocked the stairwell with their Eurovision entry. John had lost his voice from talking too much, but his energy was still contagious. Have a listen:
Afterwards we headed out for some fresh air, and Jedward treated passersby on Charlotte Street to an impromptu performance of “Ice, Ice, Baby.” They even gave a shout out to all y’all readers of WiwiBloggs.Com.
Wiwi wasn’t going to post this final video—mainly because Wiwi looks horrible, and because it’s filmed sideways—but John and Edward are too charismatic not to. They call my haircut a mini-Jedward—what an honor!—and generally bring life to the rather quiet restaurant. You also learn that Wiwi’s real name is Willy Lee…don’t tell!
And finally some pics. Check out Jedward’s shoes—red hot super hot with fire flames—and the random fan who asked for a snapshot with the twins. They were more than happy to make her day! They also gave Wiwi an autographed picture. Super nice, non?
