Amid the name calling, shouting and a Linda Martin meltdown, Can-Linn and Kasey Smith stormed to victory in Ireland’s Eurosong with their song “Heartbeat”. Did they deserve to win?
Our readers and jury would seem to think so, but what say you?
Here’s a sample of what Twitter thought.
Massive congrats to @kaseykaysmith and @can_linn on winning the #EuroSong14 you’s are gonna have a ball 😀 x

#Heartbeat is a sample of pure unadulterated Irish energy and sheer passion, the performance needs to reflect that in its totality.

Will Can-Linn and Kasey restore some Irish pride in Copenhagen? Read the lyrics below and decide for yourselves.
Heartbeat lyrics — Can-Linn feat. Kasey Smith
White lightning upon us again
The walls now paper thin
And soon the sun’s breaking in
Don’t you know?
You Know?
How the world is not always true
Still my truth will remain in you
We’ll be braver and start anew
I know
I know
When the ocean’s way too deep
Keep your head high above the water
We can make it and break the border
Hold onto my heartbeat
My heartbeat
My heartbeat
Face the danger and face tomorrow
You’re a dreamer and you don’t know
That no story’s carved in stone
Just hold onto my heartbeat
My heartbeat
The ground may be caving in
And some wounds they may never mend
But we’ll rise up and try again
Don’t you know?
You know?
When the shore gets hard to see
Keep your head high above the water
We can make it and break the border
Hold onto my heartbeat
My heartbeat
My heartbeat
Face the danger and face tomorrow
You’re a dreamer and you don’t know
That no story’s carved in stone
Just hold onto my heartbeat
My heartbeat
Keep your head high above the water
We can make it and break the border
Hold on to my heartbeat
My heartbeat
My heartbeat
Face the danger and face tomorrow
You’re a dreamer and you don’t know
That no story’s carved in stone
Just hold onto my heartbeat
My heartbeat

Do you know what, the fact that vocals were quite poor live is ONLY because it is on the Late Late Show. If it was on an Irish version of Melodifestivalen (National Song Contest), the live performance and vocals would have been outstanding and would have established themselves as the early favourites to win Eurovision 2014.
She is perfect, and i adore this song!!!Good job Ireland!!
If the rest of Europe choose crap songs Eurovision 2015 will be in either Budapest or Dublin. I would love it to be held here in Ireland next year 🙂 🙂 🙂 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Eoghan was great. The only thing I disliked about his song was the unmerited key change at the end – otherwise, it was an enjoyable tune with cute lyrics and a good vocalist. Can-linn’s entry sounded like it suffered from some bad audio mixing when they performed it live. The backup vocalists were inaudible, which made the chorus sound underwhelming. And yes, the dancing was strange – their constrained presence on that small stage was totally awkward. But Kasey sang well, and the song sounded nice enough. I do prefer Eoghan, but this is an okay choice. How well it… Read more »
Great choice by Ireland. So happy the best song one, definitely gonna get a better result than last year.

Best of a bad bunch. Linda Martin was a disgrace. . As for the song its like Teardrops but I think we will qualify at least. Lose the dancers. Too Irish! !!! Otherwise a good song compared too the others chosen. The only other good song so far chosen is Italia
Niall Horan was telling people to vote for Eoghan Quigg. The fact that he didn’t win the televote shows just how much better Can-Linn and Kasey were than Eoghan.
Ireland’s a big one this year? yes? YES!
#YesWeCanlinn indeed. I breathed a hugh sign of relief when she won.
Even Olly Murs has pestering everyone to vote for Eoghan! Frightening.
I’m soooo happy Can-Linn and Kasey won. I will definitely support Ireland this May.
An excellent song. If Eoghan won with his cringey, sickly sweet song, I would have been so annoyed.
Really good song and happy we’ve gone with this.
Oh heck yeah!!!!!!!!!!

It’s the most memorable entry, so the choice in Dublin was completely correct. For a moment, I thought Eoghan Quinn *cringe* would win, but the Irish stood ground and now have a respectable entry.
I believe they did deserve to win for they are bringing such great elements of Ireland into a modern tune that will be appreciated throughout Europe.
