Tinkara took our breath away with her official video for “Spet/Round and Round”. It was glossy, it was chic, and it suggested that this under-the-radar diva will bring some fantastic staging to Copenhagen.

The song mixes Slovenian and English to great effect, and I think the mystery of the Slovenian language will intoxicate some viewers. Of course, I get a tiny bit of a “Horehronie” vibe from this, and we all remember how that went. Regardless, y’all have to love the way she plays the flute!

So, what do you think of the Slovenian entry this year? Will it be spinning into the Top 10 on Saturday the 10th of May? Or will it spin out of control and into last place in the second semi-final? Does it help that last year’s representative Hannah Mancini co-wrote the song? Comment below!

Spet/Round and Round Lyrics

Is a moment
just a circle
Just a song you play on repeat

If we can’t change
how we’re living
Isn’t life just a lie that we feed

And now
I’m gonna show you how to breathe
I’m gonna show you how to live
I’m gonna hold your heart in hand
(Yeah) I’m gonna make you understand

You don’t know you don’t know
Is it love is it hate
What are we changing
(What are we doing)
You don’t know you don’t but
Can you feel it inside
Feel the roses
Feel the pride
(Can you believe it)

Round and round again we …
Round and round again we go …
Round and round again we …
Round and round again we go…

Isn’t hatred
Just a mirror
Just a mirror
Our reflection twisted in scorn

Will we ever
See each other
Choose the road that won’t leave us torn

And now
I’m gonna …

This song is well written, wel performed and presented, but unfortunatelly, i believe that the “cousine” of Eurosong is something totally different… No matter how some countries try to do their best and produce really excellent songs, there will always be favourits, pre-chosen and pre-determined, no matter what. So, all in all, in my opinion, it has already been decided about the winner. And it will not be the best one, from a musical pont of view, not the best one from the voice – performance – spectacle point of view, nor the most pleasant one, not the most interesting… Read more »

In my opinion this is one of the best entries this year. (And just 18 songs in this competition I really like it).
I really hope to see Slovenia on the Final.
Idk if being between Greece and Romania will prejudice, but I hope not.

Without release and promo of the song in other countries haveing and working with partners this Slovenian song out of chances. All participating in Eurovision depends of that so the song stay in semifinal

I always worry about Slovenia, they do suffer geographically and it’s really frustrating that the producers have put the song inbetween two dancer songs… as if they see Spet as the “boring” song. I think Slovenia tends to get lost in the mix… They don’t do a lot of promo and a bit like the UK, they send music that perhaps other countries aren’t listening to (though we love how loads of counties have dubstep elements following Hannah last year) But Round and Round really is fantastic, and the mix of Slovene and English works really well (in a way… Read more »

Either the song or the video will carry Tinkara to the final, if she gets there. In my 2nd evaluation, I have her 5th on my scorecard for the 2nd round.

Slovenia has the most unnoticeable song. Wonder if anyone at all will remember and vote for it. Such a shame, as I love the country, sadly the song is boring and Tinkara very weak in playbacking the flute.

Slovenia is 2nd in my list, after Ukraine. A brilliantly unusual song mixed with traditional elements, go Slovenia, you have to pass the semi final, especially since most songs in the second semi final are so weak !

It could make top 10 of the semifinal, but almost certainly not the final.

It deserves to make the top 10, but it mightn’t even make the final. Slovenia has no real friends, so to speak, and being stuck in between Greece and Romania could make or break it. It may get lost between the two, or stand out against the generic dance.

I remember Nelly Ciobanu, it was folk song (and sorry, much worse than this one from my country this year), and it made quite good result in jury voting, so who knows…it’ll be right compare ‘ my ‘ song to Samo shampioni if we talk about climate of songs (or Hora din Moldova exactly) than to Montenegro last year which had totally different sound. So, let’s see, I hope for positively surprising results on May.

Jacob, Poland is my number one and absolute favorite this year, and i hope really really much it makes the final !

But i think you will be really disappointed if you expect it to qualify, cause the juries will 100% hate it and be the reason why it won’t qualify. Just like Montenegro last year.

It’s better than Romania, Greece… and Sweden. Way to go, Slovenia! Good luck.

Emmanuel, Slovenia has LESS chance for final, when country like this will perform between two ‘ sure countries ‘ which will come through semi final without problems. And Romania and Greece have dynamic song, Slovenia is more calm and I afraid of that it can forgotten because I really like this song. Maybe I am egoist but the most important thing to me is that my country could make the final. Poland expects not only final but even top10. Our last place in top10 was in 2003…but the first goal is BEEING IN THE FINAL after years of defeats…

Good song, good staging, but I don’t think it would make the top 10.

With the proper staging I think it has the potential of making an impact, the songs is nice, but just as I was saying in her review here, it lacks something, it starts so well but it never really takes off. But yeah, with a proper set on stage it might do well.
I don’t get the Horehronie vibe though, for me it’s more a little of Rändajad, just with a flute instead of strings.

the song is not bad but I doubt it will make it to the final. it would really need a memorable stage performance and something original but slovenians are known for their terrible stage presentations (I still think it was poor staging that took nusa derenda’s victory in 2001).

Dhani

i think it has a good chance, because being drawer to perform after greece’s mess, it’ll stand out.

I don’t know why, but i have a feeling this could be the Yohanna of 2014. This is because, just like her, Tinkara has a good but quite boring song. If they manage to get a good production team and get together a good act by may 8th, i think we may be in for a surprise and in my opinion, it will either do brilliantly or fail disastrously. I am almost certain that if it does make the finals, it will get no lower than 5th place.

Slovenia is one of my favorite ESC countries… I hope they will win one year, but it won’t be this year, nor top 10 I’m afraid. I wouldn’t be suprised if it wont pass the semi 🙁 (I would vote for it)
