London’s Turkish community celebrated Turkish Day in the famous Trafalgar Square yesterday. Guests enjoyed Anatolian and Mediterranean cuisine, dance, and music, including a performance by Turkey’s Eurovision 2012 contestant Can Bonomo. Wiwiblogger Deban Aderemi was on-the-scene and managed to grab Can for a quick catch-up.

Can talked about his recent near-death experience, explaining that he was within three seconds of falling off a cliff. He says he’s okay, but it’s obvious that he is still recovering emotionally. He also reflected on Turkey’s withdrawal from the contest, saying that it’s sad that they left, and that Eurovision is an amazing experience for the selected artists. Can, however, says he won’t be returning to ESC.

But he will be releasing a Turkish-language album in October. English speakers shouldn’t fret. He promises that he has something special in store for y’all too…

Like Italy and (more recently) Poland withdrew from participating in Eurovision? And then suddenly after a long absence, Italy’s back. Poland even returned after just 2 years of absence. Hungary missed a few editions but came back strong. So the door is open to Turkey and hopefully they too will make a great comeback.

Cute guy but his entry was extremely overrated back in 2012. Kitsch performance, awful accent! only the melody of the song was good but still didn’t deserve top 10

Hi Deven,

Hate to burst your bubble, but Wiwibloggs is strictly a republic and we don’t recognise commenter-led coups. 😉

Oh, and fyi re one of your earlier comments, I don’t believe Turkey have ever had a song dedicated to an American chat show host! 😛

All hail for King Deven of Wiwibloggs. Subjects Salute!

Good Morrow to you all. It is with great sadness that Turkey (sqawck) has stopped taking part in the Eurovision Song Contest. Man, I am desperate for a shower. Someone keep the congregation happy while I go and wash myself in the river. 😛

I loved his entry! By the way, in the lyrics page to “Love me back”, you guys forgot the last word of the song, when she shouts “Hayde!” (which is Turkish for “Come on!” or “Let’s go!”). Really nice song. I too regret Turkey didn’t participate the last two festivals. They often had really good entries. Does anyone remember Sebnem Paker participating twice, both times with a great song? And of all winners of the last decade, Sertab was amongst the better ones. I hope Turkey comes back into the festival soon. En büyük Türkiye, hayde!

Hi lads, Father Deven O’Kearney at Turkey’s Eurovision funeral mass here. We are gathered here this afternoon to mourn the tragic loss of Turkey’s participation in the Eurovision Song Contest. Turkey have brought us some very memorable entries to the Eurovision. Some of these include that song that also used the word ‘Oprah’, Sertab Erener’s winning song, Dumb Tek Tek by Hadise and my personal favourite Manga. Sniff 🙁 I don’t know any funeral hymns. So instead I will just sing ‘We could be the same’ by Manga. For All this time, I’m in love with you, Don’t even know… Read more »

I’m so glad to see he’s back to work after the car crash. Plus I love his tattoos – a pleasingly different look from the cabin boy of 2012.

This is the bit where I sigh and wish Turkey would return to the competition. They normally sent quality songs and do so well!
