Last week we reported that Austrian broadcaster ORF had received 12 submissions from venues vying to host Eurovision 2015. Now Austrian newspaper Der Standard has reported that ORF has trimmed that 12 into a shortlist of seven venues in three cities:
Vienna
- Wiener Stadthalle
- Schönbrunn Palace (17th century palace and a popular tourist attraction and concert venue)
- Heldenplatz public square
- Krieau race track
- St Marx Rinderhalle (former cattle market)
Graz
- Stadthalle Graz event centre
Innsbruck
- OlympiaWorld sports and events facility
Of these venues, only Wiener Stadthalle, Stadhalle Graz and OlympiaWorld are existing venues. The other Vienna locations would require a temporary structure to be built. And sadly this shortlist means that Vienna International Airport is out of the running as the host venue.
The article adds that Innsbruck has a good chance of being selected. ORF hasn’t revealed why these seven venues have made the shortlist, but once the final decision has been made, they will explain their reasons behind the choice.
Kudos to @DR
He has successfully planned the best ever Eurovision! Why cant you work for ORF and have the influence to pull this off, it would be awesome!
Which ever city gets it I would love the stage to be the centre of the arena. You could have the green room as a ring around it.
So that props dont need to go through the audience, have the stage lower down, swap the props, then raise it again.
You can have a circle of LED screens above like moscow. But, like the london olympics, have LED squares in the audience, so every angle has the background.
I think the technology in capable of it. I think DR was considering a central stage before settling with this years design.
This time last year, I said to myself that Switzerland or Romania would win Eurovision 2014. If I was right, it would be Geneva or Bucharest 2015, not Austria 2015. But yeah, JMH, you are right, Conchita proved that you can NEVER predict the winner until he/she has won.
Excuse me, but how can anyone base any winning chances at this point in the 2015-timeline? Did anyone really know that Austria was going to win before the artist announcements started to roll in? I don’t think so..
These are the few countries that I think might win in Austria (in no order): 1. Hungary (They have gotten some very good results lately. 2015 might be their year.) 2. Netherlands (They nearly achieved their 5th win this year. Maybe Amsterdam 2016 is calling.) 3. Sweden (Apart from 2013, they have placed in the Top 3 every year since 2011.) 4. Ireland (I have a good feeling about Ireland next year. The first country to confirm participation, RTE are anxious to win soon and then, if an outstanding singer is selected with an outstanding song well then, Dublin 2016… Read more »
Sera, ¡oh,oh,oh VIENA.
Vienna Stadthalle, PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Patrick
I meant Sweden picked a boring city in 2013, I was in Malmo before and it wasnt great. Stockholm or Gothenburg would have been a better host. I just prefer if Vienna hosted because they waited decades for Austria to host eurovision again and who knows when they will have it again, they should make the most of it, in Vienna
@ Darren: Innsbruck is not boring, it is the only big city right in the middle of the Alps, I’m from Germany and often passed Innsbruck while driving to the ski resort. That city has a very special flair… and a very strange airport.
Hey Guys, I have got some news!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😀
I have made a Keep Calm for Wiwibloggs. If you want to see it, type Keep Calm O-Matic into google and then in the top right hand corner where it says find an image, type in ”Keep Calm and Love Wiwibloggs” and then press the green button with the thumbs up to vote for it.
I hope you like it!!!!!!!!! 😀 😀 😀 😀
I want the Stadthalle in Graz to host ESC 2015.
Schönbrunn Palace manager has said they’re not in the run. He has no idea who submitted his location. Apparently nobody knows who submitted Schönbrunn, Heldenplatz, Krieau and St. Marx. Since the Stadthalle is the only one backed by the city council, it’s safe to assume the others are out of the picture.
Personally, I don’t see Graz being able to provide the necessary accommodation. So I agree with Jordan. It’s between Innsbruck and Vienna Stadthalle.
Sound like it’s going to be an exciting race! Hope I’m not going to miss any of it though, I’m going to the Gaeltacht (Irish language summer camp) next week for 3 weeks!
Please let it be Vienna, this way a lot of Hungarians could come (including me:D)
I think the same as Jordan says.
Oh please please please pick Vienna!!!! Dont do what Sweden did by picking a boring host city! Vienna is has to be Vienna!
Aww no airport? How unfortunate ):
I think it’s between Wiener Stadthalle and OlympiaWorld!
