Well, almost. Attila Kökény, who competed at A Dal 2012, recently tried to act and sing like the winner of Eurovision Song Contest 2014 on the second series of Sztárban sztár (Hungary’s version of  “Your Face Sounds Familiar”.

The show started last Sunday in Hungary. During the first show 12 singers impersonated famous stars and we had two perfomances that were related to Eurovision.

First, Attila Kökény, who came second on “Megasztár 5”, and a contestant at A Dal 2012, put his high heels on, slipped into a gold dress and he tried to rise like a phoenix as Conchita Wurst. According to the jury and the televoters, this was the best performance of the night.

After that, Dénes Pál (A Dal 2013, 2014) appeared on the stage as ByeAlex and sang the “Kedvesem”. Dániel K?vágó and Helga Wéber, who performed with ByeAlex in Malmö, helped Dénes on the stage too. The result was fantastic.

What do you think? Was Attila a convincing Conchita? How did Dénes cope with ByeAlex?

Hand up in my opinion to the Romanian version of the show where the male performers have done way more female impersonations than in any other version out there. The show is called “Te cunosc de undeva” and twice in the row the gypsy-latino singer Pepe won 2 seasons of it and his most finest performances are the ones where he dressed up as a female performers, mostly as Romanian popular folk female singers. Check that out! Especially his Mary Poppins imitation that gave him his first win and had what I consider the most original intro ever …coming down… Read more »

@escscs: I’ll try to explain that briefly to you. Conchita won the competition … and I repeat Conchita … the song itself was just an excuse for Conchita to be in it, because the character itself was what draw so much attention … a simple black beard in a drag queen impersonation. Great voice no doubt, great James Bond-esque ballad for sure, but still that beard and the whole character won the competition. The popularity comes way before the competition and that is due to the LGBT importance that Conchita has … you have to understand that besides a character… Read more »

I don’t get why is Tom (“Conchita”) so popular. OK, Rise like a phoenix did win esc, but I don’t remember that any recent winners where this popular. But RLAP wasn’t the best song, of course.

I actually liked his performance … and specially his vocals … Great job! Another proof that actually Rise Like A Phoenix was a trustworthy song … despite the attention-grabbing gimmick of the beard …
