It looked like this might be the week that Ireland’s Nicky Byrne would be knocked off the top spot. But despite a strong showing from Spain’s Barei, “Sunlight” remains at number one. Rather than diminish his support, the increased competition seems to have galvanised the singer’s global fan base. Of the 6,930 votes cast since Tuesday 2 February, a massive 4,249 went Nicky’s way. That’s 61.31% of all votes cast and a week-on-week increase of 1,156 votes. However, the poll has been shared by fans from places as far away as India and Mexico — they won’t be able to vote in May.

Spain’s Barei debuts in second spot with “Say Yay!”. She picked up a very impressive 1,655 votes or 23.88% of all votes cast. She might be a long way off our leader, but she is the most successful newcomer to date. Nicky Byrne only polled 762 votes on his debut.

Malta’s Ira Losco drops to third with “Chameleon”. In the space of less than two weeks, her support has more than halved. She received 381 votes compared to 1,394 votes in our previous poll. Ouch!

Albania’s Eneda Tarifa sits tight in fourth spot. “Përrallë” (Fairytale) earned 229 votes or 3.3% of all votes cast.

With Albania a non-mover at four, Belgium’s Laura Tesoro tumbles down two places to fifth. But it’s a tight race. “What’s The Pressure” managed to get 227 votes — just 2 votes short of Eneda. Once again, Belaurs’ IVAN brings up the rear, with “Help You Fly” earning a meagre 189 votes.

As always, the slate will be wiped clean when we relaunch the poll on Monday 15 February. Our current six will be joined by songs from Austria, Switzerland, Denmark and Georgia. Depending on what goes down in Sanremo, Italy may also be in the mix.

Ireland? Hmm… All my non ESC buddies (in the USA) don’t care for him, stating Nicky Bryne’s “lyrics are weird” but they think he’ll perform well.
One of them (I asked 6) knew what Westlife was.
But I reserve judgement until Euro Party in The Netherlands
My Top so far
1. Spain
2. Belguim
3. Malta
4. Belarus
5. Albania
-. Ireland
-. Austria

The only song I actually like is Zoë’s. It’s so epic at the end.

However, Albania (when it gets reworked) will be closer to the top, and when Annalisa wins Sanremo she is going straight to the top.
I love Ireland’s entry this year but its definitely not going to win, I will just be happy if this qualifies at least, because I hate when my country misses the final, especially because we used to be the best at Eurovision. I would rank Spain higher, especially because it is an automatic finalist and the lowest it can possibly finish is 25th whereas the others can finish anywhere. But Spain is also a better song, not original, but still good. My Top 7: Spain Ireland Austria Malta Belgium Belarus Albaina Nice to see Ireland doing well in polls and… Read more »
LOL. I don’t think there’s anything good about sunlight.
REALTALK!
What a disappointing start for Eurovision 2016
All 7 songs selected so far are weak entries
@Hugh
Spain always do well in this poll, like with their awful song last year.
I’m honestly surprised to see Ireland doing well in this poll for once, but star power does change things.
So many irish people here omg
1. Malta: Ira Losco – Chameleon
2. Belgium: Laura Tesoro – What’s The Pressure
3. Belarus: Ivan – Help You Fly
4. Austria: Zoë – Loin d’ici
5. Ireland: Nicky Byrne – Sunlight
6. Albania: Eneda Tarifa – Përrallë
7. Spain: Barei – Say Yay!
I just hope Ireland promotes Nicky properly for Eurovision and surely we’ll see another Irish win this year (or Ireland landing the Top 3 at the very least). RTE should be aware that Nicky’s huge fanbase alone won’t help him secure the 8th Irish victory unless they push enough effort to promote him for Eurovision.
For me top 3 is very clear: 1. Malta, 2. Belgium, 3. Belarus. They are most polished at this moment.
Albania has weak song framed by a lots of lights.
Spain is the best song, followed by Ireland. Belgium is very catchy and memorable, kinda current and very enthusiastic on stage. You can see she loves the song and sells it well. Belarus is underrated since it is catchier than Malta, I can basically remember what he sang unlike Ira’s song from which I only remember the white hoodie. Albania I cannot judge as it is, even tho I am warming up to the song we know it will sounds totally different when the final product is presented (probably in English, shorter, more catchy some arrangement changes or a different… Read more »
You should really have a look at your poll, all it’s good for is seeing in which county’s it’s been spread.
Anyway, Albania is still my favourite, it’s the only one with any impact at all.
Spain is loose and lax, that’s why this song also is hopeless.
For me it’s 100% clear that ACCURACY is much more important in song in the ESC than power. That’s why Ireland has no chance for good, TIGHT entry. Why only I see it?
There are many irish people here, ????????, of course the best right now is say yay by far, and that’s a big true, you only have to see the wiwi video, sharing their opinions about the songs, and full of them say that their favourite by sooooooo far was Spain.
It’s an internet poll, people will share it. No biggie.
The interesting and indicative thing is the comment about votes on debut, Barei clearly SLAYED the pack.
I’d say:
1. Ireland/Belgium
3. Belarus/Spain
5. Albania
6. Malta
Are there really people who like Malta’s song? There’s absolutely nothing in it, it goes nowhere. It’s a nothing song.
That said, none of these songs scream winner. They all range from average to bad.
This poll is clearly skewed and unreliable. Not worth taking seriously at all. Obviously there’s some manipulation going on here, as per usual….
Albania would do the best of all so far?
I don’t even think they are going to make it out of their semifinal.
There seems something fishy with the Ireland votes..more than the fact that it’s been shared…
This is very sad. Ireland keeps on spamming your poll.
To be hounest… I wouldn’t be surprised if they’d get stuck in the semis again 🙁 sorry
@John- Im glad someone said the truth here.
The only song that stands here is Albania.
Spain is 2nd for me.
Ireland and Malta – so much hype for those two, these songs are not even for Junior Contest.
Belgium – im not sure what to say about this.
Belarus – dont even go to Stockholm, ull be back as soon as u finish singing. 😀 😛
I think this poll is a joke =D
Ireland and Spain are high right now, but will drop as soon as more acts come out I think. Malta will rise when it gets the much needed revamp, and Albania might depending on how the revamp goes (seeing as it’s Albania, the revamps are very hit and miss). Belarus and Belgium will likely stay very low down
Ireland being the favourite so far? Doubtful.
I judged Spain fans in the thread that opened this poll but it’s clear Ireland has some much more dodgy voting going on. Compare this to ESCForum’s poll, where Ireland finished a tight 4th, really close to Belgium, Malta and Belarus in 3rd, 5th and 6th. Most people didn’t even rank Ireland first, which questions how it scored so well on this poll. I am convinced Albania is going to do the best of all the countries so far, followed by Malta. Belgium, Belarus and Ireland are unlikely to qualify to the final currently and Spain is 50/50. I’ll have… Read more »
Ireland and Spain, always high in these polls but flopping during the real thing…
This will be top 5 in the final
