Youhouhouhouhou! On Saturday night, millions of Europeans (and Australians, and Americans…) sang along to Amir’s performance of “J’ai cherché”. The feel-good tune and Amir’s undeniable charisma led France to sixth position overall and third among national juries.

But Amir’s success wasn’t the only Eurovision-related topic trending on French social media this weekend. French spokesperson Élodie Gossuin found herself in the spotlight following her failed attempt to cover the riff of Amir’s hit song. The former Miss France and Miss Europe beauty was so off with her youhouhouhouhou that it prompted laughs from French commentators Marianne James and Stéphane Bern.

French viewers took to Facebook and Twitter to make fun of this two-second extract.

“‘YouHouHouHouHou’ just saying you hello the @Elodiegossuin way”

“FINALLY. I just changed the ringtone from my phone to Élodie Gossuin singing Youhouhouhouu.”

Élodie’s faux pas also gave rise to countless parodies. Some imagined a duet between the blonde TV host and Amir while others sampled her “Youhouhouhouhou!” with others iconic songs.

Writing on Twitter, journalist Johan Fontic joked: “With this version, we would have probably won #Eurovision”

“@Elodiegossuin, are you watching #BagdadCafé tonight?” asks @ParisPasRose.

The radio station RFM, which broadcast this year’s contest live, paid tribute to their radio hostess by mixing her audio with Whitney Houston’s legendary “I will always love you” and invited their followers to do the same.

Her husband wants to divorce, Amir supports her

After the show this year’s French spokesperson sent a video message to the talk show La Nouvelle Édition. Just like Amir, she improved significantly after his first rehearsal.

https://twitter.com/LNEcanal/status/732204040033947648

“I think I’m getting better at this,” she said. “Everything’s fine! This is just about life, celebration and Eurovision. What about me? I ran away to the countryside, my husband asked for a divorce and my kids are calling me ‘Youhou!’ but I feel alright”.

Happily, she kept her sense of humor after making millions of people in France laugh. Even Amir noticed her vocals and almost fell in love with her.

“After all your messages, I wrote this memo to myself: take singing lessons,” Élodie tweeted on Sunday. Amir replied with a very kind message on Twitter: “I think you were incredibly charming!”

Don’t worry Élodie! No matter how you sing, France and Europe still love “Youhouhouhouhou!”

Aw, she’s THAT lovely! Loved all of her performances in Fort Boyard and many other French TV shows, so I knew her appeareance at the ESC would be this fun. I love YouHouHouHouHou, Élodie!

@Stanidiot

Another sign you didn’t go to school when you were a kid… Apart from not knowing how to spell, you also seem to have a problem reading. Obviously, my previous comment was not for you. And yeah, you don’t have a problem with Ukraine’s victory, that’s why you are probably crying that France didn’t win…

I’m completely at peace with Ukraine’s victory.

I speak 4 languages, English is only my third. Sorry for the typo’s!

Bisous,… Read more »

@Fussoire

Darling, the problem is that you used the word in a wrong way. How can anyone’s opinion be “untrue” or “unfair”? Each person’s opinion is completely subjective, so you used incorrect words. Also, you said that there is no need to check your spelling, while you misspelled my name again… How worse? Finally, don’t worry, I know many foreign languages. So, first judge yourself and then do the same with the others.

Hello Escarre Guy 🙂 Terms I used were very accurate 🙂 According to Merriam-Webster dictionary: “dishonest: containing information that is untrue – Bias: a tendency to believe that some people, ideas, etc., are better than others that usually results in treating some people unfairly”. No need to check my spelling. However, you should perhaps try to learn foreign languages.

@Fussoire

I don’t speak French but dude, are you freaking kidding me? Whenever somebody doesn’t like a country’s song, it means that they hate that country? You need to change attitude fast! Apart from that, my name is different from that phrase you mentioned, so first learn how to spell in English and then say your “smart” joke. Also, do you know what the words “biased” and “dishonest” mean? I think you should have looked them up in the dictionary before typing… Don’t you understand that you are exposing and humiliating yourself?

@ESCarguy – I don’t know if you speak French (I very doubt it since you seem to hate the French) but in French, Escarguy means “bed sores guy” 🙂 Anyway, France was good this year but not a winner I’m afraid. However, a 6th place is well deserved. Stating that France did not deserve a top 20 is really biased and dishonest. Likevel… ha det bra! 🙂

First of all, you need to go to school again in order to learn how to spell, illiterate trash! And of course France didn’t even deserve to be in the top 20, so deal with it! Can’t you just get over it? FRANCE DIDN’T WIN, ACCEPT IT!!!

@ ESCargots : If you cant stand the heat, don’t start the fire.

France had and still has the best song. With better staging and hitting the high notes, Russia would have been fourth. It.s my classic from this year and a song that will stay in my eurovision playlist for years, together with Jamala, Poli, Douwe and Laura!

@Leaf, @light star

Thank you for being superior than some people (Racal, Iberian and Charles) and not sinking to their very low level. I just said that everyone expected France to win, so that must have been a big disappointment for Amir. Of course 6th place is great, but I guess he was going for the victory. Anyway, thank you once again for being polite to me, unlike some others whose parents haven’t even taught them how to behave to other people 🙂

Poor little ESCArgy, who obviously can’t read. You wish we were crying but we are not, we are celebrating and full of joy. Amir’s 6th place is amazing – I’m sure the 20 entries behind him would love to have his final results. But hey, that shows that trolls like ESCArgy are bitter souls with big problems, but we wish her/his therapist can help out. We are so happy and proud of France’s success an this years ESC, it was long overdue, well done and thank you, Amir.

What’s the point of you arguing tho, France did pretty good getting points from all over the continent……. It didn’t win but it was ranked higher than Russia in the jury vote.
It’s not like they should be ashamed of their placing…… Estonia was a favorite to win last year and finished 6 also, which is quite a decent result out of 42.

What a sad life you must have, @ESCArgym, it is so disgusting to laugh about other people’s failures or disappointments. I hope you’ll be a better person some day, you must be very young (or a troll). But in any case: keep on laughing, we are laughing as well! A 6th place is wonderful, it’s a great achievement, especially for France (who in the last years always ended up 23th or 24th or at the very bottom… for so many years now). What a huge improvement France got this year! It’s fantastic and the Amir fans are very happy and… Read more »

I love how everyone before the contest (for example, Did027) was like: “France will definitely win because they have by far the best song, they won OGAE, bla bla bla bla bla…”. I can’t stop laughing right now, ha ha ha!!! They finished only sixth, they weren’t even in the top 5 and you were talking about victory? Seriously? I knew it from the very beginning that they had no chance and thank God this stupid song (which was even worse live) didn’t win. They were much better last year with Lisa and in 2012 with Angunn.

@YoungsterJoey: #why i wonder if its going to continue to be blocked in the future years 🙁 hopefully this idea/problem will be brought up to Jon Ola Sand or EBU or something/something for the upcoming years. it’s like limiting the world’s access to Eurovision?!? #ripbuildingbridges #ripcomingtogether @Nikos: omg the Logo stream worked for me xD my friend and I watched it for almost the entire show (we switched to svtplay.se to watch Justin Timberlake perform). the American commentary was actually pretty funny and positive. Just like #American mentioned, Eurovision vids are being geoblocked in the U.S. and apparently many other countries in Europe such as Germany, Switzerland and Austria.

Very disappointing, hopefully not because of the broadcasters!

I remember hearing her and I thought to myself she’s just as bad as Samra. On the other hand, unless you fluently understand English and French, you wouldn’t understand jack sh*t she said. “Tonight we’re Swedish, French, Evropean and bla bla bla”. Seriously, French spokespeople always tend to just talk a lot…remember 2014?
