Just when you think her sound may have gone silent, she ramps it back up again and slays the pack. Dami Im — Australia’s Eurovision 2016 singer — has been nominated for the 2017 APRA Song of the Year for her Eurovision entry “Sound of Silence”. The shortlisted Top 20 includes Australian Eurovision predecessor Guy Sebastian, and global megastars Sia and Flume.
This rounds out what has been a spectacular year for Dami. After being selected as Australia’s representative in Stockholm, she released a Carpenters cover album, went on a huge nationwide tour that went on for several months, and dropped an absolute banger of a song in “Fighting For Love”.
This nomination is the first for Dami. However, her songwriters DNA Songs (otherwise known as David Musumeci and Anthony Egizii) have seen similar success at the APRA Awards in the past.
They wrote “You Ruin Me” for potential Eurovision 2017 act The Veronicas in 2015 and were shortlisted for that track too. Australian pop music at its finest. Can we get an amen up in here?
We also can’t ignore the accomplishment for Guy Sebastian, as his song “Set In Stone” was also shortlisted this year. This is his second song to be nominated for the APRA Awards, following on from his smash “Get Along” in 2013.
APRA (otherwise known as APRA AMCOS) is the legal governing body for the music industry in Australia, ensuring that all artists are being paid the royalties they are entitled to. They are key drivers of the legal purchase of music. Keep earning that coin, Miss Im!
Without any doubt,Dami Im is the winner of the eurovision 2016.
I am French .Dami is a wonderful singer and her voice out of the ordinary.
“Sound of silence” is a musical masterpiece and allows Dami to express all his talent. But in my opinion,”Speak out” is his reference.
Dami, we would like to hear you sing more often this title.
Greetings from France. We love you, and hope to see you here soon
Absolutely deserved. This song is the true winner of last years’ Eurovision.
“Sound of Silence” is a good song, but it’s Dami’s spectacular voice that made it top 5 material. She is amazing and deserves lots of success.
Dami deserves to win. Love you Dami
What is APRA, is so hard to find and all I found is this : Australasian Perfoming Rights Association.
Is it right? Why so much abreviation?
Actually it is Guy’s 6th song to reach the shortlist stage of the APRA Song of the Year Josh, not his second. Art of Love was shortlisted in 2010, All To Myself and Who’s That Girl in 2011, Don’t Worry Be Happy and Get Along in 2012. Get Along made it to the Final 5. He and Matt Corby are currently the only TV talent acts to get APRA song of the Year nominations for songs they have writing credits for. As of course Dami was not involved in writing Sounds of Silence.
hope she wins!
I would’ve given it to Fighting for Love instead.
