SunStroke Project Wiwi Jury Moldova Hey Mamma

Their performance at Eurovision 2010 in Oslo propelled Epic Sax Guy to internet stardom, owing to his infectious energy and hilarious thrusting.

And ahead of their Eurovision return in Kyiv this May, Moldova’s Sunstroke Project have launched a competition via their official Instagram page asking you to match their creativity and fun-loving spirit.

The winner will receive a promo CD, t-shirts and signed posters, although the group have yet to announce a deadline.

The rules are simple. To be in with a chance of winning this competition, Sunstroke Project are looking for the most creative video of their Eurovision 2017 entry “Hey Mamma”.

Their song, which sees the lead singer desperately trying to win over his difficult mother-in-law, lends itself well to a music video. From crazed bridesmaids to an extremely disapproving mummy, there’s plenty to poke fun at and riff on.

Need inspiration? Then check out their performance at this year’s Eurovision In Concert below. Warning: You may start thrusting at your computer!

Sunstroke Project at Israel Calling 2017

Days prior to entertaining the crowd in Amsterdam, we spoke to Sunstroke Project ahead of the Israel Calling Eurovision preview party in Tel-Aviv.

Lead singer Sergey Ialovitsky didn’t expect the group to make the impact they made with their Eurovision 2010 entry “Run Away”.

In his mind, songwriters frequently think their songs will slay, but he had no idea it would go viral.

“When you’re creating a song and you listen to the song, it will be some hit,” he said. “And when we started working on Eurovision in 2010, we said that we will win.”

While the group only managed to finish 22nd out of 25 in Oslo, the solo sax instrumental of Epic Sax Guy — real name Sergey Stepanov — has achieved viral status that few Eurovision stars can count. And surely it has played an important part in Sunstroke Project’s subsequent successes.

“Without me, it’s bulls*t,” he said.

@ Robyn

Thanks for your explanation. 🙂

I’m glad that there’s always a native speaker around who makes sure that Eurovision doesn’t ruin what’s left from the English I learnt at school. 🙂

Thank you. 🙂

I did know the word in the meaning of “not based on fact or rationality” (e.g. “unfounded fears”, “unfounded allegations” etc.), but I had never heard it being used to describe a person. If the word also means “false” in the broader sense, the term “unfounded boy” makes sense, of course.

unfounded = deceptive, false, misleading, untrue, untruthful, vain

I am still wondering what an “unfounded boy” is. Google shows me 234 results and they all refer to “Hey Mamma!”.

I guess they mean “I am not unfounded” = “I am serious, I have my principles, my love is true” = “I’m not the kind of boy who sleeps with your daughter once and then dumps her” (= “I’m gonna sleep with her at least twice before I dump her” 😛 ).

Am I right?
