Today the Wiwi Jury – our in-house panel of music unprofessionals — travelled to Belgrade to eat our body weights in sarma whilst touring the Church of Saint Sara. All this food and travelling made us tired, so we decided to wind down by reviewing the entry for Serbia at Junior Eurovision 2017, “Ceo Svet Je Naš” by Irina Brodic and Jana Paunovic. Do we think this charming duo have what it takes to take out first place in Tbilisi? Read on to find out…

Serbia’s Junior Eurovision 2017 song

“Ceo Svet Je Naš” reviews

Angus: Most people grow up on Saturday morning kids TV shows and much of the JESC audience will be avid viewers too. So it may be a smart move from Serbia to deploy such a kid-friendly track on stage in Georgia. There’s a cute instrumental outfit, fun twenties-inspired looks and performers that look like kids having fun, rather than stylised performers. This honky tonk tune might put off older audiences, but for kids it’s totally killer.

Score: 6.5/10

Jovana: I have to admit I didn’t like this song the first time I heard it. But after some time, although it is definitely not my cup of tea, I learned to appreciate its simplicity. “Ceo svet je naš” is sweet, fun and innocent – which is what the Junior Eurovision Song Contest should be about. With a good staging and a bit more work on their vocal performance, Irina and Jana could actually do rather well in Tbilisi.

Score: 6/10

Renske: Irina and Jana are giving us a cute, but traditional Junior Eurovision song about dreaming. They deliver it with purity and fun, which is always a good combination. They show us their musical skills for a few seconds as well as they play the piano and the bass. Sadly, this part only lasts a few seconds and therefore it doesn’t add up much to this typical Junior Eurovision entry.

Score: 7.5/10

Robyn: I like a good JESC duet and Jana and Irina have lovely voices that harmonise well together. The combination of the jaunty song and the 1920s style of their costumes makes it feel like something out of a Serbian adaptation of the iconic children’s musical, Bugsy Malone. This performance never fails to put a smile on my face!

Score: 6.5/10

Sebastian: Irina and Jana deliver musical theatre style – their harmonies are solid and chemistry is on point. But their lyrics involving ‘dancing seas’ and a ‘kissing moon and dawn’ do make me wonder how relatable the song’s strong metaphors are to the average ten-year-old. It might be cheesy, but served it on a cracker of two vocal powerhouses like Irina and Jana and we’re set for some fun JESC viewing. Bring your piano and cello along too! What a delightful duo of genuine diamonds.

Score: 7/10

William: In a world where kids grow up way too fast, it’s lovely to see an act where innocence and tender feelings reign. Nodding to the great children’s tunes of the past (I’m talking early 20th century), this is like a big sugar-coated heart-shaped cookie. It may be too sweet for some, but there will be those who eat it right up.

Score: 6.5/10

Going to be a good break from all of the ballads. Something a bit more original and something almost, J-Pop in the style. With good staging, this could do well.

To be honest, this song is a catchy one. Good singers, nice tune, and a really good song overall. The lyrics though are a bit weird but hopefully they do get a good score.

At first I didn’t like the song, but it is a grower. There is something catchy that makes me feel happy and despite it being in another language I was able to learn the song pretty quickly.

Very cute, bit I don’t see it doing well. But it is very charming and I think the adult jury could place this inside the top 10. I hope they don’t ruin the staging like last year, because these girls are cute and they don’t deserve to be in last place (nobody does this year)

It very much is underrated in YouTube tops. I actually enjoy it pretty much, it’s catchy and it makes me smile. Care-free and childish in a good way. The girls are really cute too. It can get a bit repetitive though.

This is not my cup of tea for sure, but I like their energy a lot. It feels a bit cheap and retro, but in a quite good way. Not a bad song, just nothing I would prefer listening to. A 5/10 for me.

“It may be too sweet for some, but there will be those who eat it right up.” I am one of those who love it from the start! I will vote for it for sure, and i’m not a child for a long time:)

In You Tube tops, this song is very underrated. I find it refreshing and cute. The girls put a lot of effort, even writing the parts of it. It comes off as sincere and joyful. I hope Serbia manages to have a good score at JESC.
