It’s gonna take an absolute musical hit off he charts to beat the best melody this year and It’s not even close.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EuqlnL8I4J8

This is godsend stuff. I only can remember Nocturne ’95 bringing me these inner feelings. I shed a tear everytime I hear it.

This is not a clear number one on the booking rates mainly for three things: it’s pretty much a demo, both performers have been giving shaky performances and staging looks weak at this point.

If they get it together, this is a clear favorite to me based on my ESC knowledge. Long time fan from Texas.

My top 10 until today. Greetz from Austria:
1) Netherlands 12 pt (though not my style, but Waylon nails it)
2) Czechia 10pt (fresh)
3) Italy 8pt (authentic, powerful, message)
4) France ( gr8 instruments, good song, thnx 4 message, but too much Mercy)
5) Germany
6) Spain ( I do like this cheesy song)
7) Hungary (not my style, but powerfull and professional)
8) Latvia
9) Slovenia
10) Cyprus (cheap, but compared to the other entries solid)

Anyone knows if the Italian’s guys if they have obtained an official permit of melody and chorus of the song letter that they transcribed?
If they are participating with a song legally I can vote for them. Their music doesn’t need being forced and slow to have emotions. I really feel it and I almost crying when I hear it.
I think they can win the ESC so far.

I don’t think Spain will do well in the actual contest. The whole performance looks fake, and because they can’t sing it sounds like they are screaming at each other. Alfred also doesn’t give me the impression of a straight guy, so him singing to a girl looks a little off.

I think these people are desperate to find an article about the big 5 to jump in and share their negative reviews. Amaia and Alfred’s voices are totally fine. the song is cute, nothing we haven’t heard before but it’s very pleasant to listen to. Top 10/15 at least based on previous ESCs. what about Russia? that country used to get a lot of negative comments as well. Waiting for Julia to suprise us all

People are not desperate, they’re sharing opinions. Amaia’s voice is alright, i dont like her tone though.

Alfred’s voice is absolutely atrocious, he needs singing lessons and how to pronunciation the words.

You must be new then.

It is really DISGUSTING how much this website hates Greece. You decided to insert in this article ALL the songs comprising the TOP 5 and you left outside the Greek song. So , in essence, you decided to include in video, only the top 4. I have never seen this in my life. You either choose to highlight the top 5 or top 10 or nothing. Not to mention how much liars you are so that you will have good PR with all the contestants. For example, under the official lyric video of this year’s Greek eurovision song, you commented… Read more »

Wiwi_are_you_Liars, Greece is the only song from this top 5 that hasn’t performance live yet. Maybe that is the reason (but not sure). If it helps, I love the greek entry, it’s totally beautiful and mysterious, and I do think it has a chance to get a top 10 spot in the final. kisses

They CAN have any opinion they want BUT at the same time they could be less hypocrites. Commenting on the official upload of this year’s Greek entry and stating how great this song is, clearly demonstrates their hypocrisy.

Ps: I don’t particularly like the Greek entry. But i raise the issue of fair treatment here together with the issue of hypocrisy.

Pfff… Look at that armenian. Your country doesn’t even deserve to be in Eurovision. You are asians, you can win any eurovision poll as much as you want, but you’ll never be able to win Eurovision. No need to be harsh, Raoul. If Azerbaijan was able to pay for 1 million sim cards and win the contest, Armenia too. I actually think this year’s armenian song, is my favorite ever, as this is sang in their own language and sounds great. The singer has a great song too. No need to hate. I hope western european countries are invited to Asiavision as well. xoxo

Why do some people take this poll so darn seriously? Whether it’s rigged or not WHO CARES? It doesn’t determine the real end result in May anyways so calm down. Apart from my country (Estonia), my absolute favorites are Italy, France and Greece. I can’t place them since I love all of them equally. Even if don’t know all the songs, it is predictable what other countries will send. I was really raving about the quality of the first 5-10 songs picked, but we’ve reached a point now where there’s quite a lot of duds, as there normally is in Eurovision, the problem is there’s not really anything that’s amazing yet, or competes with the best of other years for me anyway. Please, don’t trust eurofans’ tops that much. They always support uptempo entries which does nothing but flop in Eurovision. They are like (only) 10% of the voters in May. Most of the voters are people who listen to all of the songs for the first time during the show (and of course juries) and vote for the most interesting act. For that reason most of eurofans are always unhappy with Eurovision results, because their favorites rarely do well in the real show. Italy has an amazing song this year. First of all, the Italian song is not about looking the other way. Is about resistance and refusal to be threatned. Second of all, we need more songs with these messages. We cannot just pretend nothing is happening around us. But with your atitude it would be better to censor the lyrics if they talk about unconfomfartable situations. This has a name: dictatorship. I dont Think this polls are rigged at all per se but of course italy tend to do well with them because unlike many other countries italy send established singers with a massive fan support nationally and often internationally. Having said that I dont see Meta and Moro as contenders for the win but definitely as top 10 material. That being said I guess now there are no winning song
But all of them are very good, so all in all Im happy that the quality has risen

So far it looks like it’s going to be 2011 all over again. Of course we’re only half way through but that’s just a feeling I got about this year. I expect totally unexpected country to win the contest like Azerbaijan 2011. Perhaps it’s going to be Azerbaijan once again considering the fact that Russia, Georgia, Armenia and other ex-Soviet countries don’t seem like strong contenders this year, Azerbaijan may grab those ex soviets points.

That’s actually a good point about Azerbaijan. But let’s wait for their song. On the other hand Belgium may also surprise us this year.

Aw Italy. You’re gonna get a few votes for that pitiful song, but not a lot. Most europeans are fed up with that cliche message. I can see the ‘immigrants’ and ‘outsiders’ voting for it though. Smart move.

Literally only Spanish people are feeling Tu Cancion this much. I don’t judge, they watched show – had they favorites, it’s okay. But this song ain’t going far. It’s extremely slow and boring with nothing that leaves you breathless or wowed. Even their vocals are just okay. I don’t see this song placing anywhere higher than 20th. Will stay there along with Belarus which is horrible. I don’t understand how he won. But France rocks this year! Ukraine pretty good, Germany and Greece too. 🙂 Might be top 10 for them this year! I lay my hopes in Croatia amd… Read more »

I dont find the French entry rocks at all! Loke it but quite a normal song. I don’t like Ukraine nor Croacia’s entries… Greece is ok but cant see it winning. Whatever, even if Europe votes for their neighbours (all Eastern and ex soviet blocks for sure!) Spaniards will be happy with whatever result. They have no expectations of good results whatever they send as they dont belong to any block. But there is a huge consense in Spain about the quality of their entry so they wont give a damn.

It was in 6th place actually. If it’s not Spaniards, and we know people across Europe didn’t vote for it in the actual contest, then who voted for Spain in that poll?

Spain 5th last year in the polls? You are wrong. Even Spaniards detested their entry. Two years ago with Say Yeah you probably mean and this entry was obviously underrated in the final voting

There is no way Moldova will be so low. Only Czech Republic and Moldova have songs that make people dance. Special mention : Alekseev, hate him as much as you want, but his song is good. The winner will still be a politically correct song, but I wonder who really listen PC songs in their headphones privately.

Marcelo
Guest
Marcelo

Moldova is so low, because apart from the song’s funny and dance-y vibe, it sounds dated and a bit soulless, like a song from the early 2000s like Estonia’s winning song. Plus, the PC songs aren’t that up with the bookies, the winner will probably be one of the internally selected songs.

travis
Guest
travis

Or you hope that the winner will be from internally selected songs. I believe this year will have 43 perfectly equal songs. Which is fun. Anybody can win, is an interesting experience for us. It will be like 2011 when Running Scared won.

We give 🙂 But it’s a mixed feeling. When you come from three straight very bad results and the last one was basically a “white flag” from the get go, this year first thought has to be “we’re going for another bad result” Truth is Spain’s entry this year may be decent? good? great? (whatever you want to call it) and that “lost hope” comes back a little bit, but not too much, tbh. We will need a top 15 result at some point in time to start believing again. Spain seems to me like a newbie unable to adapt… Read more »

Btw, what would you guys consider the best Eurovision year ever? The candidates I can think of are:
1. 1996
2. 2015
3. 2010
4. 1997
5. 1972

Marcelo

2014 was pretty great too although I don’t think that great, and 2016 had the best organization ever and the songs were not that bad at all. What did 2010 excel at?

Make Eurovision Sanremo Again

Make Eurovision Sanremo Again

2016 was definitely a highlight of recent years….great musical numbers (Peace, Peace, Love, Love…), the best host (Petra), political tension (Ukraine/Russia) and the excitement of the new voting system which really built suspense, and of course the amazing spectacle of Sergey’s stage show. The only thing that let it down for me was the decision to have Justin Timberlake as the interval act.

Marcelo
Guest
Marcelo

Exactly for that reason, having 2016 so nearby, I can’t see why some people rank 2015 above 2016, even in terms of songs I believe 2016 beats 2015. 2016 had Ukraine, Australia, Russia, Bulgaria, France, Armenia, Lithuania, Malta, Israel, Italy, Hungary, Cyprus, Spain, Croatia, Czech Republic and even Germany. Even non-qualifiers like Switzerland, Iceland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Estonia, and even Ireland (without vocals).

Joe
Guest
Joe

All solid. To counter that, I’ll also add that 2015 had Italy, Sweden, Norway, Israel, Ireland, Belgium, Slovenia, Estonia, Latvia, Russia, Romania, Hungary, Australia, and Montenegro all sending some of their best-ever entries (poor Ireland). I’d even argue it had the two best nul-pointers of all time, especially Germany’s (I honestly have no idea how that one did so badly).

I never got the hype for Norway, Estonia, Romania and Hungary. But I guess in the end, it’s personal taste. Greetings.

I agree, last year Ukraine acted wisely by showing of its local stars in the interval acts, Monatik and Onuka were great. For me, 2017 was the year with the best set of interval acts ever.

Make Eurovision Sanremo Again

YES! Monatik and Onuka were amazing! I’m still listening to their music on a regular basis. And I loved the hosts’ version of Eurovision hits, played Ukrainian style. People didn’t seem to like the hosts much last year, but 2017 was still a great Eurovision year for me.

Joe

I dunno, just a lot of really solid entries (Germany, Denmark, Moldova, Israel, Ireland, Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Portugal, Turkey, Romania, Cyprus, Belgium, Armenia, France…all golden. I’d even make a case for some guilty pleasures that didn’t make it past the semis, like Finland, the Netherlands, Slovakia, and – guiltiest of all the guilty pleasures – Lithuania).

Good choices! 1997 has one of my favorite winners (and probably the UK’s best entry), and there’s a lot of solid stuff from ’85 (Finland and Israel are my faves from that year, and of course Norway). The standouts from 2012 really stand out (such as Sweden, obviously) but I thought there was also a lot of stuff that just kinda mushed together. It was a very strong top, though.

Pasadena

Pasadena

I agree on Finland ’85, one of their best entries ever! I have so many favorites from that year.. (like Germany, UK, Italy, Spain, Norway, Israel). In ’97 in addition to the UK there were classics like Dinle, Fiumi di parole and Primadonna.

1995 is a personal favorite of mine. People give the 90s a rough time, but there were some pretty classy songs this year – Croatia, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Poland, Greece, and of course my all time favorite Spain, to name but a few.

I love the dark staging too, and Mary Kennedy was a great host.

Disclaimer : this viewpoint is based at a large remove, perhaps it felt totally different at the time what with Ireland winning year after year, I wouldn’t know as it falls just outside of my living memory!

I’m worryingly obsessed with Italy’s song. I’d be embarrassed to learn the number of times I’ve listened to it. That said, I think they’ve probably only topped the poll because of Ermal Meta’s fans. I suspect France would come top if it were just regular WIWI readers voting.

I can´t tell you how much I relate to that. I know it by heart, and I don´t even speak Italian. There is something about it that makes me obsessed with it, so thank you Italians for that! I think in terms of success at Eurovision The Kolors would have given Italy a better result, but I´m really glad that MetaMoro won and Europe´s gonna hear this beautiful song as well.

OMG! Same! I only know a few phrases in Italian, but I know the lyrics of this by heart now. I also really enjoyed “Frida” and “Il mundo prima di te” at Sanremo, and am still listening to them, but this song just gives me serious feels….even after listening to it waaaaaaaay too many times.
