And there we have it. Waylon has been dropping potential songs for Eurovision 2018 since Friday with the last one arriving tonight. Once again, the Dutch representative for Lisbon popped up on the De Wereld Draait Door talk show to premier “Thanks But No Thanks”.
Waylon “Thanks But No Thanks”
Before the ex-Common Linnet took to the stage, TV host Matthijs van Nieuwkerk hinted that this might be “the one”.
Like the previous four, track number five immediately sounds very Nashville and country. The first couplet starts slowly. But once the chorus hits the the song really starts going.
“Thanks But No Thanks” showcases what Waylon does best. This is the music he lives and breathes.
Following the performance, the in-studio guests were asked which of the five songs would get their vote for Eurovision. The result was virtually unanimous with most backing tonight’s effort.
Has Waylon saved the best for last? And more importantly, is this his Eurovision entry?
Presenter Matthijs commented that we will know the song tomorrow or maybe even tonight. Perhaps we should all keep an eye on social media. There just might be a clue as to Waylon’s choice.
“That’s How She Goes” will not go
Yesterday Waylon sang the fourth song “That’s How She Goes”.
However, internet users quickly discovered that the track is not completely new.
Mitchell Tenpenny published the same song three years ago on YouTube.
According to Elsevier Waylon could still use the song for Eurovision. They argue that since the track was never released commercially, it may not breach the EBU rules.
However, the publication points out that the Dutch crooner is unlikely to go with the track anyway. He previously stated he wants to sing a self-written track, which “That’s How She Goes” clearly isn’t.
We now have all fives songs. Tomorrow we will know which one will go to Lisbon. Which one do you want to see in Lisbon? Let us know in the comments below.
Waylon has just released a 2:56 minute version of Outlaw in ‘Em on Spotify! Yes this is gonna be it!
I,M SO HAPPY WITH THIS SONG, THE WINNER OF 2018!
Already a classic song for me!
Europe listen carefully.
That’s How She Goes for me, thanks.
outch, this can’t be selected. too bad
I like “Thanks but not thanks” because it has a clear identity. It’s what Waylon knows best. Love the melody and his voice here! Personally, this saved the day. I don’t want “Back together” and “The world can wait”. “That’s how she goes” has a good chorus and a great guitar solo in the bridge. It has a potential as it comes to staging. “Outlaw in em” is memorable, it’s a different sound from the rest. Love the rock vibes. However, I’m not sure if it has a general appeal to the public. Also, with a potential as it comes… Read more »
Outlaw In Em is the only one that would get him on the left side of the scoreboard, I feel. Thanks But No Thanks is a great country ballad, but I don’t think juries will go for this as it feels like too cheap an effort to replicate the success of Calm After the Storm. Outlaw is a totally different song, so a lot more daring and interesting as an entry. And the vocals on that one are just amazing.
The other songs are bland and forgettable. Not bad, mind you, just bland.
I still prefer Outlaw in Em but this is a great song as well. Definitely think this is the one for Eurovision and it will do really well too. Might even be the winner
Ok this one is likeable:-) the other 4 I can’t see for Eurovision
All five songs are fine, but I like this one the most. I instantly connected with the song. I think he saved the best for last.
I love ”Thanks but no thanks”, because it tells a story.
”Outlaw in em” is an European trying too hard to be Wild West.
I still prefer Outlaw in ’em
Waylon just four words:- The World Can Wait!
MY SKIN HAS SPOKEN “THIS IS THE BEST”
None of these do much for me…guess I’m not into this genre or something…they’re all very middling…not sure how well these would do in the ESC…plus, they are no match for “Calm after the storm”…completely different vibe and performance. Thanks, but not thanks, Waylon. Send Ilse next year. 🙂
So song 4 is not his! And all the rest except back together are longer than 3 minutes 8 seconds!
This one is good. Please don’t let it be the world can wait. That’s the only one I found useless.
1. Outlaw in em (I feel like this one has the most staging potential, which would really benefit him I think) 2. That’s how she goes (I know this one isn’t an original, …but if he’s allowed to use it then I don’t think it would hurt) 3. Thanks but no thanks (It has a nice build up and the the tune is one you memorize, which is good) 4. The world can wait (Please don’t send this, Waylon. Only the top 3 on this list are sure for the final imo) 5. Back together (this is only on the… Read more »
Exactly the same order and thoughts. 🙂
1. Outlaw
2. Thanks
Amsterdam 2019 make it happen!
1. Thanks but no thanks
2. Outlow in ’em
3. There she goes
Other two are too weak IMHO.
I love both Outlaw in em and Thanks but no thanks. If he chooses on of them he will be a sure qualifier. I can’t at people thinking he will fail, really, he wont. He is an animal on stage and with both songs he will rock that stage.
I only like The World Can Wait!
That was the worst out of the five.
I really like “Outlew in ‘Em”, but I think that his favourite song is the third one. 🙁 That one wasn’t bad at all, but… :/
i’m sorry waylon, i just don’t like any of the songs :/
It’s funny that “Outlaw in Em” seems to be the favourite of so many fans. It’s the same on another site too. I personally don’t find it particularly interesting.
(that was me)
This is such an amazing song, I prefer this one and outlaw in em.
I think both will do really good in Lisbon without any doubt.
But wouldn’t it be great if he will trick us all and will sing another new song tomorrow which he already choose for Eurovision 🙂
Aha! Conniving
Outlaw In’Em is the best. Sounds fun and also the message of the song kinda embraces the fact that he’s some guy from the Netherlands singing country, but hey, everybody has an outlaw in’em so why not? But I have the feeling he’ll go for this one.
“Outlaw in Em” is still the best, but I think it will be this song. It will qualify but will do nothing special.
Fine song overall. Since I am not really a fan of country, it is not something I go wow about in any way. But at least it is nice to hear music played with instruments rather than just being made on a computer.
But I hope there will be coming other things than country from the Netherlands too. Their music scene is more than that, and they should show that too.
This has a great slow burn to it, and his voice has so much character. Another strong contender from The Netherlands. I think this would be very memorable and get a lot of votes. It feels special.
THIS has got to be the song. It’s pretty perfect for Waylon. Plenty of musical changes throughout the song to give plenty of appeal and keep the listener attracted…he is so engaging to watch. Such a great song and beautiful melody. What a talent! THANKS AND YES PLEASE
I may be weird, but I really like all the songs, maybe “The World Can Wait” is the one that I don’t like that much and which does not suit me, but on the other hand I like them all. I love country music, Waylon is awesome singer, but the best choice for me is “Outlaw in ’em”.
#outlawstotheend
“Outlaw in Em” would be the best choice. But I assume he’s going to choose the third song.
I somehow knew, predicted if you will, this whole thing was going to be a flop from the day it was announced… But I was even more underwhelmed when I heard the songs. The only one I kinnda like is ofc Outlaw in em.
@weißbrot
How do you know he will flop?? Are you a clairvoyant or what?
Wiwibloggs make a poll about these 5 songs!!
Hvala ne ne!
Outlaw in em is the only one to go for.
It’s still Outlaw in Em. This one is also pretty good, though.
I’d love to see this song in Lisbon competing against its Slovenian twin “Hvala, ne!” – even though the songs don’t have anything in common apart from the title.
Thanks, but no thanks as Outlaw in ’em is the one. I just love that song and his voice! I love the way Eurovision is becoming so diverse and embracing music genres other than the typical pop-diva-outdated ones.
outlaw or this song needs to be the one to go to lisbon love both of them and waylon is super talented : )
It’s ok, but since I’m not that big of a fan of country music – I like some, but this is not my cup of tea. I still like his voice though.
My top 5:
1. Outlaw in Em – yup, still my favourite
2. That’s How She Goes – I know this might not be the one, but hey
3. Thanks But No Thanks
4. Back Together
5. The World Can Wait
Am i the only one that loves “The World Can Wait”
Nope, same here.
Cant wait for Waylon to unfortunately pull a Trijntje and miss the final.
No way this is going to get stuck in the semis!
Why do you hope / wish he will stay in the semis? What did he do to you to be so hatefull..??
My favourite is “Outlaw in ‘Em” with “Thanks But No Thanks” not far behind… “The World Can Wait” was the worst of the five imo…
I’m still on Team Outlaw, but this one is very good also. More in the lane of the first of the songs he presented, but with more punch. I would be glad if he picks one of them.
He shouldn’t play save! Choose Outlaw In Em and he will make an impact! Celebrate diversity. What does the Eurovision experts say?
I think with a little bit of work “The World Can Wait” has a lot of potential, it just needs to be a little less repetitive. I just feel the song’s message will resonate with so many people. The world can wait until I say I’m ready.
Aww I guess my favorite “That’s How She Goes” is out then 🙁 “The World Can Wait” probably will be his choice
It starts a bit like “Mall”. I prefer songs 2,3 or 4.
Anyway, the N’lands ain’t winning this ESC, but I like the songs.
Nothing but love for this track.. Gotta be the 1.. At least it’s quality..
More than 3 and a half minute, too long for broadcast i think
Probably the weakest! I expected more. 🙁
As long as it’s Outlaw or Thanks, the Netherlands should sail into the finale. And possibly the top 5! Well done Waylon, you’ve already exceeded my expectations.
