It’s been an eventful week in the OT academy. The contestants were told off, Famous was revealed as the only one excited about Eurovision, over 300 songs were received for the Eurovision gala, and they put on yet another gala evening.

Fighting to stay this week was Carlos Right and Marilia. They’d each been up for elimination once before and both have their supporters. Carlos performed Michael Bublé’s “Everything”, while Marilia sang Natalia Lafourcade’s “Hasta la Raíz”.

When when it came down to the voting results, it became clear that if Marilia could survive a sing-off against the super talented and beloved Noelia, she would have no trouble beating Carlos. Mr Right was shown the door after receiving 43% of the vote. This leaves only two boys in the Academy.

The public’s favourite of this week was Sabela. She’s landed in the top three for the past three weeks, but this time she was the favorita. But here’s the thing — this doesn’t seem to be based on her performance this week. Along with María, Sabela performed The Beatles’ pop classic “I Want to Hold Your Hand”. It wasn’t bad, but it didn’t have the wow factor that other performances had. Curiously, María was deemed the weakest link and ended up in the jury’s bottom four.

Another big performance of the evening came from Alba Reche. She tackled “Je veux”, by the French singer Zaz. Alba did ok with the French lyrics and demonstrated her skills on the kazoo. She served the performance with loads of attitude and showed again why she’s such a favourite with the audience.

And things were looking up for Julia this week. Despite being in the bottom four last week, she was back on track with India Martínez’s “90 Minutos”. The song let Julia show off her ability to interpret the emotion of the performance. It was understandably the third public favourite.

Besties Famous and Marta finally got the chance to sing together. They got the party started with their performance of Earth, Wind & Fire’s “September”. But! The jury were not impressed with either of their performances and sent both to the bottom four.

Also performing this evening was Natalia, who brought sultry vibes with Bunbury’s “Aunque no sea conmigo”, and Miki, who released his inner pop-rock göd with The Vamps’ “Can We Dance”. Both were safe from elimination.

Sadly Marilia wasn’t safe, and joined María, Famous and Marta in the bottom four. The Academy professors saved Famous, while the other contestants voted to save María. This leaves Marilia up for elimination for the third week in a row, while Marta faces elimination for the second time.

By the way, we’re kind of obsessed with how the weekly favourites are going. Unlike last year, every week it’s been a different act and this week saw another first-timer voted the fave. But next week, all the potential favourites have already won once, so who will be the first act to be voted [email protected] twice?

What a shame. Julia’s performance gave me salvador sobral vibes. If they chose her before 2017, they could have sent a similar ballad and reach top 5 with that girl. Bummer.

o my heart broke again when I read this 🙁
she was eliminated at gala 7 . . . one day people will hopefully realise it was a mistake… it was.. a mix of a lot of things.. but mostly because she was a strong contender for the final, and competition for other favorites

Sehi, thanks for your answer.:)
That is awful. I liked her voice.
I had a feeling there will a be a though battle between noelia and marta because for me they are very much a like. Strong voices and very ambitious.
But marta is trying to play it low key. Noelia didn’t.
I bet matrta is the dark horse…

you’re welcome. and she was eliminated when she was nominated with Marilia*. well, a lot of people did vote against Noelia because of how she reacted when she got nominated, which was unfair, we all react differently, but it is what it is…
I don’t know about next nomination, both Marta and Marilia are working hard since day 1. if I had to choose, I would choose Marta because I believe she and her performances weren’t appreciated enough throughout the show … we will see 🙂

Natalia is such a pro! She showed a totally new side last night and I’m on board if she ends up winning OT. I didn’t see it coming but Julia was one of my favorites this week. Very emotional and sincere performance. “Je Veux” was an inspired song choice for Alba, it really fits her voice and vibe. I love both Famous and Marta, it was fun to watch them together. I hope she can survives elimination. Miki has been very boring lately, but he showed some reaction this time. Good week overall.

Just a correction, in the last paragraph you say that Marta was saved by the contestants and that the final nominees were Marta and Marilia. María was the one saved by the contestants, not Marta, I believe. Thanks!

so basically what happened here yesterday is that two people who didn’t deserve to be nominated, got nominated in the end – (I am talking about Famous and Marta, thank God he was saved, but I don’t like where this is going – he was nominated….why exactly??? for giving us one of the best performances of the night, together with Marta? for working hard every day since he entered the academy? (contrary to what they want us to believe with the type of content they are posting of him on youtube if they post anything, and the videos of him… Read more »

It would have been Sabela instead of Famous if she hadn’t been chosen as the favourite. I had two rather clear nominated (María and Sabela) and four clear saved (Natalia, Alba, Julia and Famous). Also, Miki was praised by the jury right after his performance. So that left Marta and Marilia/Carlos up for nomination. Maria, Sabela, Marta and Marilia/Carlos were meant to be nominated; as Sabela was the fav, one of the other had to be nominated. I thought about Miki, but in the end it was Famous. It wasn’t a deserved nomination, but I knew he was going to… Read more »
