Amid all the controversy that led to Ukraine’s withdrawal, Maruv did her best to avoid interviews concerning Eurovision. As she stated on her official Instagram, the media frequently misinterpreted her words. Now that things have calmed down, we can finally hear the Vidbir’s winner opinion on Eurovision 2019, her favourites and plans for the next year.

On the 19th of March, Maruv visited the Love Radio studio. She was a guest on “The Hotties of Love Radio”. During the broadcast the hosts usually ask intimate questions and play truth or dare, making the interviewees reveal their deepest secrets.

Maruv proved to be the total opposite to her stage image, where she plays a savage, somewhat out-of-control and off-the-rails diva. Maruv — real name Anna — appears to be a modest and totally down-to-earth girl. She came to the broadcast along with her husband Alexander, with whom she has been in a happy marriage for seven years.

“The Love Radio Hotties” turned to the Eurovision topic by putting “Te Deum” on and asking Maruv whether she knew what it was. She answered honestly —no — and the hosts said in jest that she doesn’t need to anymore. “Yeah, I’m not going [to Eurovision] already,” the “Siren Song” star said with a laugh. She didn’t seem to be upset at all, suggesting she’s moved past the bitter situation with the Ukrainian broadcaster UA:PBC.

The interviewers played the bookmakers’s favourite entry “Arcade”. Anna sang along and added that Duncan Laurence has a good chance to win the contest, as the song is beautiful.

But the most anticipated question was: “What do you think of Sergey Lazarev‘s song?”

The two singers know each other very well, as Lazarev was Maruv’s mentor on The Voice of Ukraine 2014. She said he took care of his team members, visiting all of their rehearsals. The songstress also confessed that Sergey was the first person to tell her that she would be a popular artist while others didn’t believe in her. Friendship wins, despite Ukraine’s decision.

“It’s a good song, but to be honest, forgive me Sergey, I love you a lot, but I liked Duncan more.”

She isn’t sure how everything will turn out in the end. But she admitted that Sergey has an incredible ability to make cool shows and, secondly, that he sounds great live. “And how Duncan sings live… we haven’t heard it yet”.

“But they are lucky that I’m not participating after all, otherwise everyone would be BANGed.”

Concerning her plans, Maruv revealed that she doesn’t want to go to Eurovision next year at all, even if countries invite her to represent them. “At most, I can go as an interval act, that I can do.”

Do you agree on Maruv’s opinion on this year’s favourites? Would you like to see her as an interval act next year?

I think Sergey is a good artist, I liked the song a couple of years ago a lot, but I thought the show ruined it. Too much show, the song didn’t need all that. The Dutch song is not composed for ESC, so it is more pure. Sergey wants too much to win which might make him lose again! If you compare the videos of Nl and Russia, I think he will make the same mistake again; All the better for NL.

6-month evenue in Russia > revenue from ESC victory, while you are still sad about how UA:PBC has done with her

I understand you are upset but what would be the consequences for Maruv? She could receive threats to say the least or damage her career. Not to mention that she probably wouldn’t accept the invite in the first place.

Russia won’t win

NL is 100% certain winner

Duncan and H>tari are my two winners! Maruv would’ve been my third, ahead of Estonia, who now climbed to my bronze medal position thanks to Ukrainian fiasco. Russia is also in my top 10.

Duncan is my favorite by far! Lazarev is second in my top, both songs are great. And if Maruv was still in the contest, she would come second… so sad. Hope she’ll come back in the coming years.

I hope Israel has already asked her to be interval act. That would be right for her to get on that stage with BANG!

Lady is telling the truth, Scream is trying too hard to be epic GoT, when in fact is cheesy camp.

You guys remember Isaura from last year’s Portugal? A bit off topic, but I found her new song, and it’s AWESOME! What do you think? Here’s the link https://youtu.be/1y86Arl69ig

People probably hate on this like the comments below that share my view, but I frankly have grown fond of Sergey’s ballad. It’s so epic and impactful. I’m certain that it’s presence will be heavily felt in the live shows. That said Eurofans must remember that most of the voters are not even keeping up with all the songs and will probably hear and watch the performances raw and for the first time. I wouldn’t draw anybody out at this point because what Eurofans might like in general may be different from what the majority of viewers like. It’s fair… Read more »

Adding on to my comment since the very fact that I like Sergey’s song seems to bother others and to introduce clarity to what I meant, I think the song was never intended to be made for radio but rather more for the live performance itself. That said Sergey’s song is not my favourite as I prefer The Netherlands and Switzerland for right now, but I think the Russia will like the other two do fairly well. Although keep your eye out for Greece because if Katrina can pull of those high vocals we can see a change in dynamic.… Read more »

Sergey’s song was indeed written for the stage, but a good song is also good without viewing the live performance. I mean, an Andrew Lloyd Webber song is usually quite theatrical and dramatic, but it’s also pleasant to listen to on its own.

I’m very upset that Ukraine decided to withdraw, but I have to say that Maruv’s performance at Vidbir was too raunchy for Eurovision.

yeah yeah fire
Guest
yeah yeah fire

i think thats what people (including myself) loved about it. it was raunchy, it was inappropriate, and it was something you wouldn’t expect to see at eurovision, and it got people talking ? very sad we won’t be seeing her in tel aviv 🙁

Freedom Jazz should’ve said yes to the internal selection offer, they had a good fun fact for them at least, eurovision worthy i mean

INAMOO
Guest
INAMOO

Even if Freedom Jazz would agree on it, they’ll be acting like puppets of UA:PBC because of the contract clause and will receive the burden of hate from Maruv fans. So it was wise for them to reject UA:PBC’s offer, same with Kazka, Brunettes Shoot Blondes, and maybe other participating artists that time who also rejected them.

same how our duncan is a puppet of the Avrotros Elite, us dutch public want our national final back for the reason we want to decide which artist/song to send

that arcade is a hit is really more luck for us i guess, but duncan wouldn’t get selected through national final against other artists with more popular music genres for example

MJESC

speak for yourself. We as in the Dutch population are in no way unanimous in if we want a national final back. Personally i prefer the current system above the national final thing that often saw mediocre songs and performances go through. Even Sweden’s Meloden festival has lost some of it’s spark. Starting when they dropped Loreen’s stunning entry and gave us mr slick on a treadmill. This year they sent a likeable guy with a good voice but an old song. Had that been the German or UK entry it would not do as well as Jon will end… Read more »

Shame on the broadcaster. I think EBU should intervene and make sure that this kind of situations are NOT tolerated. They can have an impact on the contest as a whole show-wise. It is not easy to find a “filler” for those 3minutes. And, for a show that brings joy to so many people – even if the hardcore longer-term, veteran fans make a small proportion of the ESC viewers, what happened is a big deal.

The MARUV drama makes me really depressed everytime I hear about it, I’m still so sad that she couldn’t go to Eurovision after all.

Maruv tops the chart as the biggest Eurovision crime to date. Even more dramatic than Ace Wilder losing with 2 points in Melfest 2014.

Maybe Poland 2016? Margaret coming 2nd after Michal? I remember the scandal at that time but eventually Poland got a pretty good results and came 4th in the televote.

It came 3rd. Funny thing: Szpak was put as a filler in the running order between heavy favourites France and Australia but got better televoting result than each of them.

If Maruv was going to Eurovision with that song, we wouldn’t have any questions about who would win this year. Instead we’d be questioning why others are participating when the winner is decided already 😀

It’s an awful comment and it shouldn’t be there. Such comments should be removed and the IPs blocked because trolls keep coming back.

It is obvious that anyone with common sense can tell that anyone can put whatever screen name they want, and sometimes their choices are stupid and their comments are revolting.

Same here. But I somehow think that Israeli broadcaster wants to stick it to UA:PBC by inviting her. But if Russia wins, I can guarantee that she will be the first one they invite for the interval act.
