After his solo participation in Melodifestivalen 2018, Felix Sandman has released his debut album and been on a tour with Sweden’s Eurovision 2018 participant Benjamin Ingrosso. And now, he’s taking his career even further by starring in the first Swedish original Netflix series, Quicksand (Störst av allt in Swedish).
The series is based on the book by Malin Persson Giolito, which was a best-seller across Europe. The Netflix synopsis of Quicksand reads: “After a tragedy at a school sends shock waves through a wealthy Stockholm suburb, a seemingly well-adjusted teen finds herself on trial for murder.”
Felix portrays one of the main characters, known as Sebastian; a destructive and popular boy who is the son of the wealthiest man in Sweden. The “Every Single Day” singer works opposite Swedish actress Hanna Ardéhn, who plays Maja, his girlfriend.
In the first episode of the series, Maja finds herself on trial, suspected of being behind a massive school shooting. As the story unveils, we get to see what happened months before the mortal incident. It includes a toxic relationship with Felix’s character, full of luxurious yacht trips and drug parties.
Season one consists of six episodes, each around 50 minutes in length. You can watch the full season now on Netflix.
Even before airing, the anticipation for Quicksand was already spreading all over the world. Huge promo posters were hung up as far away as Chile. In February, the cast visited Berlinale – a famous film festival in the German capital. The team presented the first two episodes of the series at the event.
Talking about the filming experience, Felix confesses in an interview for Swedish tabloid Expressen that he and the cast were crying on the last day of filming: “I felt sad and abandoned, but proud of what we achieved. You work with a lot of people you get to know, and who become like a family, and then it ends…sad, but fine”.
As would be expected for a series with such a storyline, both main actors noted that there were many psychologically and physically challenging scenes during the filming.
Apart from starring Felix, Quicksand also has other connections to Melodifestivalen. Three-time participant, and Junior Eurovision 2006 singer, Molly Sandén has recorded a song for the series. Her cover of Jonathan Johansson’s Swedish language track “Rosa himmel” (“Pink Sky”) is featured in one of the scenes.
New Adventure, New Music
Last Friday was a big day for Felix. Not only was it the release of Quicksand, but the singer also treated his fans to his newest single “Something Right”, along with a music video.
Why make the fans wait, when you can do everything at once? That’s the spirit!

I loved the book and was so excited to watch the series- was not dissapointed at all! So proud that this is our first netflix original series.
BTW the dude that played Samir is William Spetz who hosted the melfest final in 2016!
I have just finished the series of Quicksand. I really enjoyed it. Felix was excellent in the portrayal of a dark and disturbed young adult.
