The time has come. The Eurovision 2019 grand final takes place tonight, where one of this year’s acts will be crowned the winner and walk away with the trophy.
It’s been a long road getting here since the first national selection back in December 2018, through to the last song reveals of mid-March. Then there was the numerous pre-parties and rehearsals. Many countries have lost and gained momentum during this period, and our personal rankings often change weekly throughout it all.
The Wiwi Jury — our in-house panel of musical unprofessionals — first rated the songs way back in late March with predominantly studio cuts available, and before seeing any of the live performances at the semi-finals. Our scores were locked in by our accounting firm, with no way to change them as the results were revealed over the following weeks.
However, like many, our thoughts have changed with time. So we thought it was only right to reveal our updated favourites before the grand final tonight.
Additionally, while average rankings are all well and good, at Eurovision it’s the amount of high-scoring 12, 10 and 8 points an act receives that really matters. A song may be divisive, but if people still love it then they’ll pick up the phone and vote (even the juries now reward their favourite songs rather than down-grade their least favourite).
Therefore, we’ve teamed up with our friends over at My Eurovision Scoreboard to update our jury’s ranking based on the combined vote of each individual jury member’s current top ten. Think of this as our televoting points, whereas the initial Wiwi Jury was more akin to the traditional jury vote.
Once again our jury is truly international. The 21 members hail from Australia, Hungary, Ireland, Romania, Latvia, Finland, Germany, Israel, Spain, Malta, Lithuania, Switzerland, Colombia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. #CelebrateDiversity y’all!
The Netherland’s Duncan Laurence came out on top of our previous Wiwi Jury ranking, earning the second highest score ever rewarded by the jury. Italy’s Mahmood and Malta’s Michela finished on the podium in second and third respectively. But do we still think the same? Take a look below to find out!
Wiwi Jury 2019 – Updated Individual Top 10
Wiwi Jury 2019 – Updated Top 26
Denmark did not receive any points from the jury.
And there we go. Following this updated Wiwi Jury, it’s Italy that has emerged as our favourtie going into the grand final this evening. However, it’s tight at the top. Mahmood earned 131 points, but only has a two point lead over Iceland in second place. After finishing ninth in the initial Wiwi Jury, Hatari have now secured our silver medal.
Third place goes to the initial Wiwi Jury winner, The Netherlands’ Duncan Laurence. He earned 119 points. Although the “Arcade” singer has dropped down two places, he’s still very much one of Team Wiwi’s favourites.
Spain, Norway and Azerbaijan were all ranked in the top ten of the first Wiwi Jury. However, all three have now dropped out in this new ranking. They’ve been replaced by Australia, France and Greece.
The biggest of these climbers is Australia’s Kate Miller-Heidke, who received 115 points. The “Zero Gravity” singer was originally ranked 27th by the jury (22nd if you only include the 26 finalists). But after an impressive performance in the first semi-final, she’s now our fourth favourite going into tonight’s grand final.
In only a few short hours we’ll finally see who will emerge victorious at this year’s contest. Will our favourite Italy take the crown? Or could our initial Wiw Jury winner The Netherlands still secure the victory? All will be revealed as all 26 acts take to the Expo Tel Aviv stage this evening.
Who is your favourite before the grand final? Do you agree with our Wiwi Jury? Whose individual top 10 is most similar to your own? Let us know all your thoughts in the comments below!
Oh, the fools that you are! How do you see this now?! Russia on 19th, c’mon!! And the rest….You are all alike and your taste says nothing at all! On top of it I will make sure Romania gate will not be forgotten! 13th in semis, 32th over all, you knew it, you just don’t have any shame! I hope more and more people will become aware of your biases, shortages and dirty tricks and just dissmiss you!
Please if you could take a second into looking at this petition, and if you could sign aswell that would be much appreciated thank you so much
I got shockingly disappointed in wiwiblogg predictions. You can pretend to be some great specialist in music or pretend to have some fabulous music taste, the truth is – you got it SO wrong with regards to Russia. It is almost funny to watch you trying to find some decent excuse why you flopped so much. I am so happy to rub it in. I hope next time you stop being so full of yourself and start respecting the power of Russia. Don’t you ever doubt Mother Russia again.
This was not a prediction. Just our top 10 favourites combined.
Well the top 10 i would like to see (but know it wont happen) are. 10. Sweden. 9. Albania. 8. Iceland. 7. Greece. 6. UK. 5. North Macedonia. 4. Netherlands. 3. Azerbaijan. 2. France. 1. Italy.
Honorable mentions to Portugal from semi 1 and Romania from semi 2, if they had made the finals my top 10 would be very different.
Portugal and Romania not qualifying is the biggest ESC omission this year. I voted for Ester!
You got fooled by Wiwi, she was 13 th in the semifinal, with Moldova and Italy close by, voting, she was a major unpleasent bore that Wiwi imposed on us. They knew it from the begining, but they still did it! It was just sabotage and disdain, shame on them!
number one will be THE NETHERLANDS. If you have another opinion, your taste is bad.
You cant say somebody has bad taste if they have a different favourite to you, if everybody had the same taste then the song contest would be a total waste if time.
Just for this reason I won’t vote for the Netherlands. And really because of stupid people like you, that Archade song is getting hated.
Anyone but Netherlands!
Will be grateful to anyone voting for our young star Michela singing
I’ll vote for Greece. Being next to Duncan will not help her, but she deserves a good result!!
ITALY definitely – but will also vote for Norway and North Macedonia (wouldn’t it be fantastic if it won, which it won’t) – might even throw a vote at Australia at the end (can only vote once for every country)!
My GF Top 10:
1. The Netherlands
10. Czech Republic
11. United Kingdom
Literally any of them winning would be good with me.
I do like most songs, though. Switzerland, France and Azerbaijan, although not among my favorites, are good on stage and have amazing performers. Good luck to all performers tonight, but fingers crossed for my top 10.
PS. For those wondering, yes, Malta did grow on me! Michela is great. Both Malta and Iceland are here long enough to get their first win!
So much love for Iceland!! You guys are great 😀
I am so happy that Mahmood lead now . Iceland is also a well produced song I agree . Thank you wiwi jury.
Too many lambs in social media they put all nearly the top 10 you can see in the bets .beeeeeeets beeeeeeets 🙂 funny
How is it that Spain is in just 4 top 10 (2 of them from Spain) but “La venda” got nearly an 8/10? It doesn’t make sense. Don’t tell me the staging is bad, cause it is not.
4. The N’lands
5. Portugal (rip)
8. Cyprus (just the studio cut)
My favorites for the big win are Iceland, Netherlands and Australia! Three masterpieces! I will also vote for Estonia, to up his chances, especially because I wasn’t able to in the semi! 🙂
Same top 3 Colin!! I hope one of them wins!
Australia, Iceland and Italy are The worst song this year
9th is low…? Wiwi rates it higher than norway who placed 4th in OGAE poll and is 6th in the scoreboard app… juries consistantly OVERrate Sweden… proof is in the statistics.
It’s incredible that Italy ranks first even if 5 jurors haven’t placed it among their first 10
6 even 🙂
My top 10 will be
6 or 10?
Albania my winner ?
top 5 for shure
5 the Netherlands
10 Czech republic
My top from Italy is:
Norway 12 points
Albania 10 points
Spain 8 points
Azerbaijan 7 points
France 6 points
Slovenia 5 points
Australia 4 points
Greece 3 points
Israel 2 points
San Marino 1 point
If Albania wins I’m as happy as if Italy wins, I wish you the best Shqiperia
for me Albania is in top 5 this time
Hurrah! Truly refresshing!
Do we wanna most expencive Eurovision part 2?
Yes, we DO!
So vote for Azerbaijan, honeeyyyy!!!
2- The Netherland
AUSTRALIAAAAA….YOU ARE THE WINNERRRR
KATE MILLER…..TONIGHT WILL WRITE THE HISTORY
My Top 10
-Germany (the staging is awful but the song on its own had a lot of potential, I found it very touching. Shame that so many people have dismissed this song)
Vote all ? #22 ITALY ?.. If MAHMOOD wins, there is free Pizza here in Italy ??
Malta really deserve a top 10 this year. I’m so pissed with the running order.
I’ve noticed a lot of people who like Albania also like Slovenia. Hope they do well!
Prove the no 2 slot curse can still get top 10.
Have fun tonight at the Eurovision Staging contest
Does anyone get the point of having a jury system when it comes to Eurovision voting? Is the logic to stop a joke entry winning? But can anyone tell me the last time a joke entry had a serious chance of winning? I just feel uncomfortable that 50% of the vote is left for a relatively small group of people. It doesn’t seem to fit the inclusive openness that Eurovision often propagates?
Well, in 2012 a joke entry came 2nd…but to be fair, the juries still placed it 11th out of 26….
Joke or not joke is the only song that I remember from 2012
Last year a joke entry won the whole contest
Good on you guys for putting your favourites out there before the final and even more good for you guys not just picking the favourite for the sake of picking the favourite.
