Eurovision 2019 All 41 final

It’s been one month since the stars shined and the confetti fell during the grand final of Eurovision 2019. The team at wiwibloggs can’t get Duncan Laurence’s “Arcade” out of our heads and our bodies just won’t stop feeling Mahmood’s “Soldi” (clap, clap). Unless we shout it out with Sergey Lazarev’s “Scream”, Luca Hänni’s “She Got Me”, or John Lundvik’s “Too Late for Love”. But our playlists don’t stop with the Top 5. We’re still loving Conan Osiris’s “Telemovéis”, Tulia’s “Fire of Love” and Ester Peony’s “On a Sunday” to name just a few.

That we would compulsively listen to songs that failed to crack the Top 10 (or even make the final) isn’t surprising. Eurovision acts frequently fall flat on the big night because of bad staging or dodgy vocals, while digitally re-mastered versions of those same songs go on to prove timeless. Remember Britain’s Gina G. from the 1996 contest? Her dance number “Ooo Ah….Just A Little Bit” only placed 8th, but it’s now a staple on dance floors from Hong Kong to Houston.

Now it’s time for you to let us know which songs you are still listening to. So pull our your iPhone and warm up your Spotify playlists to see which tracks you’ve played the most, and then vote in our poll. You can vote for as many songs as you’d like, but you can only vote one time: be sure to click the box next to each song before pressing submit. In order to discourage fans from manipulating the results, you will not be able to see the full results after voting. Sorry ’bout it. The poll will close on July 10.

Last year’s winner Eleni Foureira from Cyprus

Rather than stressing out over the results, why not review our past winners? Cyprus’ Eleni Foureira won last year with “Fuego”, while Belgium’s Blanche won in 2017 with “City Lights”, Poland’s Michal Szpak won with “Color of Your Life” in 2016, Sweden’s Måns Zelmerlöw won with “Heroes” in 2015, Israel’s Mei Finegold won with “Same Heart” in 2014, Romania’s Cezar won with “It’s My Life” in 2013, Ireland’s Jedward won with “Waterline” in 2012, Sweden’s Eric Saade won with “Popular” in 2011, and Turkey’s maNga won with “We Could Be the Same” in 2010.

I still listen to Soldi, soldi…. clap clap! Thanks mahmood for your masterpiece! I remember the bookmakers the day of the final 18 may had put Soldi in 6th position odds 25/1 ! Arcade was given 3/4, australia 7/1, switzerland 12/1, sweden 16/1, iceland 25/1 as Italy. You can see all this in Instagram wiwibloggs, there is a post with the rankings by the bookmakers. So as soldi arrived so close to Arcade, it could have won with few points more, I think we have to thank the bookmakers for their contribution against the victory of mahmood… and he was… Read more »

Still listening to Telemóveis (and the rest of Conan’s discography) – two days ago I went to his concert in a small club in Oslo and I was completely blown away by the great show João and Conan put on. Conan opening the show with an a cappella performance was mesmerising. I’ve been to countless concerts of all kinds of artists but honestly, none of them left such an intense lasting impression as Conan did. Yes, both the music and the guy himself are somewhat peculiar, but that’s part of his charm. The crowd in Oslo was small, but goodness,… Read more »

You absolutely need to! There’s nothing quite like him 🙂 As someone who travelled from Germany to Norway just to see Conan – it was totally worth it! If you can afford it, go fly to one of his upcoming gigs and do some sightseeing while you’re there 😀

I still listen to Azerbaijan’s “Truth” every day, an excellent track. I was lucky enough to find a radio edit version on Google Music which doesn’t have the Arabic style interlude that Chingiz performed on the night. I know it was right to have each country express their culture through song but for the European club circuit, the radio edit is almost the perfect pop song. I still think it should have been titled “Shut up about it” though!!!

Wasn’t the Arabic bit the only bit he actually sang?

It still breaks me apart in pieces knowing the fact that Italy did not win.. it was unfair where i was watching the voting and not to see some juries placing him in their top 10, we as televoters, did the same thing…A little glitch at the beginning of the song in the jury final, all it took for them to say ” he could have been better,.oo nooo, nah” …he has improved (actuall mastered) his song in Saturday’s Final…kudos to the Profesional Juries where they can crunch everyone they could. Honestly, anytime i started to listen to Duncan and Arcade,i could not… Read more »

Since you mention unfair juries, anything to say about the Italian jury deliberately down voting Mahmood’s biggest threats, like Russia and the Netherlands?

Thank you for approving my case!that is not unfair either..yes,indeed i agree with you on that too..than,maybe EBU with the member delegations has to review and evaluate the juries more carefully before picking them up..

For me it’s Luca Häaaani. Which is odd, because it was instantly catchy, but it didn’t really catch on in my head until I saw it in the semi-final. By then I’d already heard it about 20 times and wasn’t that impressed. He took it to another level at the contest, just like Sunstroke Project did with Hey Mamma.

I just want to share some thoughts about esc songs. Every year there seems to be some kind of rejection towards them by radios, charts and the music industry in general once the contest comes to an end. I think it’s important to give these songs the attention they deserve and to promote their listening beyond the esc sphere and the contest dates. Some songs such as Euphoria, Heroes or Fuego proved it is possible, so why not let other songs be listened when we travel, are doing some home repairs or simply chill out on a summer day. Those… Read more »

I still believe there’s always a stigma towards Eurovision to be solely as a TV show, and the songs were viewed as rarely ‘promotable’, ‘commercial’ or ‘marketable’ music pieces. Sadly, the biggest music pieces we have today often comes from marketing and commercialization, so I’m not surprised by the irony.

Good point Sam, hopefully one year some Eurovision songs will be hits in the USA. Why not? Look how they loved BTS. But otherwise, yes, the contest is a pop-up event with minimal mainstream interest in the music outside Eurovision season.

I wish my country would even have the winner songs on radios. In France at best we have our entries being broadcast a lot (although it’s useless we can’t vote for it after all) and that’s it. I heard once Heroes on a show I was shocked but that’s basically it. Some countries don’t even care about broadcasting popular songs so you can imagine with songs being “not radio friendly” both pre and past contests.
For some, Eurovision is still seen as a parody contest or ridiculized unfortunately…

There 6 or 7 I still listen to a lot. For the summer vibes: Spain, Malta and Switzerland. For the crazyness: Australia and Norway. For the quality: Italy and of course my favorite The Netherlands.

It’s the first time since 2015 that I don’t listen to my country’s song (Belgium) anymore. It’s dumb but I think it’s clearly because of the bad result.
