After three heats and two semi-finals, eight finalists competed in the grand final of Lithuania‘s national final ‘Pabandom is naujo! 2020. The eight acts performed their entries, but in the end it was THE ROOP with “On Fire” who won the contest and will go on to represent Lithuania at Eurovision 2020.

Unlike the national final heats and semi-finals, which were all pre-recorded, the grand final show was entirely live. The jury assessed the eight finalists and awarded points which were added to the televote score from the Lithuanian public.

And both the jury and televoters were in agreement. THE ROOP topped the vote in both the jury and televote, securing them the ticket to Rotterdam.

THE ROOP’s entry “On Fire” is a quirky indie-pop entry, notable for its “fire/desire” rhyme and its eclectic signature dance move.

This is THE ROOP’s second attempt at Eurovision. They first competed in 2018, where their song “Yes, I Do” placed third in the grand final.

Moniqué placed second with her song “Human. She was second in both the televote and jury and proved a popular runner-up in the competition.

Latvia’s Eurovision 2020 star Samanta Tīna made an appearance during the interval. The Voice of Lithuania star and two-time Lithuanian national selection act is a familiar face to Lithuanian audiences and she took the opportunity to introduce the country to her song for Rotterdam, “Still Breathing”.

Lithuanian star Jazzu also performed in the interval act, including her songs “Welcome” and “Dumblas”.

Pabandom is naujo! 2020 – Grand final results

  1. THE ROOP – “On Fire” (12 points)
  2. Moniqué – “Make Me Human” (10 points)
  3. Monika Marija – “If I Leave” (8 points)
  4. Rūta Loop – “We Came From the Sun” (7 points)
  5. Aistė Pilvelytė – “Unbreakable” (6 points)
  6. Meandi – “DRIP” (5 points)
  7. KaYra – “Alligator” (4 points)
  8. The Backs – “Fully” (3 points)

What do you think? Are you happy that THE ROOP will take their fire to Rotterdam? Tell us your thoughts below!

This is it! Could Lithuania finally do it? I have high hopes for this since it has everything to be successful. Great opening, sick beat and the dance is just OMG. Literally while listening to it you just wanna get up and move.
Really really impressed by this entry!

I don’t think it is a winner because the music is a little too repetitive. But I wouldn’t mind if it won!

This one is 100x better than the ones from Estonia and Latvia that won. Those were the dark years of Eurovision when you watch those video and wonder what people were thinking?!? This one is fresh and entertaining.

It’s borderline offensive to compare this quirky and fun act to that atrocious barf from portugal last year. Guys, if you want the honest truth, portugal remained in semis last year not because people did not understand the act. It was because that was literally the worst song of last year. Everything, starting from staging, finishing with the song were terrible. This, however, has so much potential! Dare I say that the dance is more catchy than the chicken dance of Netta. I hope they do good this year.

Considering that it has amassed over 500,000 views on the official Eurovision channel in just two days, Fire could be the toy of 2020, and dare I say, I think I like it better than toy.

If they tone down the gestures and go for some cool staging like Loic or Aminata then this could go all the way… it’s borderline Portugal 2019 at the moment.

It’s between the backing dancers of Toy to Conan Osiris, but the song is not as memorable as Toy but also not a disaster like Teletubies or whatever that out of pitch howling was called. It’s just trying hard to be something, and i’m not sure what

Nothing like Portugal 2019. That was weird, serious, and awkward, which is why it came in last place (I think) in the semi. This is funny and sarcastic.

An interesting entry from Lithuania this year, with a well carried out staging and artists that can stand behind the performance with ease. There are parts of the song I like although the lyrics and some parts of the melody do get a bit repetitive at times. An unpopular opinion maybe, but I liked Veklenko’s song better, even if it was more cheesy. Pros: visually attractive and nicely polished performance with an artistic twist + zero outdated pop/dance vibe we still get so much at ESC. I appreciate. Cons: It’s more of a ‘stage’ song, the melody gets a bit… Read more »

Im pleasantly surprised with Lithuania. I always have the lowest expectations about them.
This song is very catchy and quite interesting. An indie song that reminds me the 80s in a good way. All I can say is that The roop are very cool and I am adding this to my playlist.

This is my favourite entry selected so far! Classic throwback to ‘alternative’ 80s pop mixed with a modern beat! I think this could bring Lithuania their best ever result and am actually surprised it’s not top 3 with the bookies.. far more televote friendly than anything we have seen in the swedish selection yet they are second?

I constantly have to think of ‘The Roop, The Roop, The Roop is On Fire’. Anyone familiar with Follow The Leader by The Soca Boys? 🙂 I really like this performance. It’s bizarre, yet not too much as to become unhinged with the audience. It tries something new on the Eurovision stage with a professional look, which must always be lauded. The diffence with Portugal’s Conan Osiris is that this song will be appreciated by a large audience. Telemóveis was too much of a niche in sound, look and feel. On Fire will not have that problem. Even the song… Read more »

I’m actually laughing out loud rn. What odds? What are those worth when only 6 entries been revealed? Talking about the odds when not even 4th of the competing songs been chosen/revealed is another level of brilliant. And it’s no 5 after only 6 songs been revealed? I wouldn’t say that’s great, that actually sounds very bad for them.

I think this can win the televote this year. It’s early but every year the viral effort does well and the dance routine and general infectiousness makes this the act I want to see and join in with. This is Lithuania’s strongest entry since we are the winners and this year who knows? They might be.

Why are you so bitter, sweetie? It can finish last for all Lithuanians care, but I’m sure the band and the Lithuanian folks will have a better time dancing to “on fire” than you ever will in your life, judging by the way you get worked up over some random country’s Eurovision entry. I love the song, but I am on the group of people that find the performance just too distracting for its own good. I am all about quirkiness, but these dance moves are not funny or interesting or visually appealing. I know this is their way of expression, etc. but I hope they can level it down a little bit, just like Salvador Sobral did in Eurovision comporaed to his quirky moves in Festival da Cancao. If they do it, I will enjoy this entry much more in the final night. This is a constructive critiscism. Anyway, great choice and… Read more »

Enough remember Demy (that is my favorite singer froom Greece) got middle quality song. That is nice to listen. But not to win or get Top 10. 🙁 Hope this time they will help to their own nation and make much better than Lasarev 2 songs and also better than Azerbaijan Farid and Aysel and well better than others slso ofcourse. 🙂

I know I’m going to get a lot of dislikes, but don’t you think we’re overating the entry? Don’t get me wrong, I kind of like the song too: original performance, charismatic singer, modern tunes… But, almost no lyrics or singing, a bit somehow weird and some could consider it’s a bit repetitive too (both chorus and performance). It could call the attention of part of the audience, but I think the juries will not root for it unless it becomes somehow more powerful. Whatever, Good luck!

I’m very happy for The Roop, they were my winners too. But at the same time I’m sad that Europe won’t see Monique’s performance. It could be legendary, it’s far too good and polished for it to end up forgotten in a small country NF. And Ruta Loop’s song could be a hit too. Can we please send these two for Latvia and Estonia? 🙂 switch Samanta Tina for Monique and we’re good.

So this can go either way, Top or Flop (actually I can see the similarities with Telemoveis that was mentioned here before, but not songwise).

Its ok but weird, has a catchy tune, BUT, most of the people that are watching Eurovision will hear (and see) this for the first time, and this is the reason, why it also can fall down as Conan Osiris did (who also didn’t gave the best performance in Tel Aviv to be honest)
