“When it rains, it pours”. That’s certainly how Eurovision fans will feel on 4 March. After weeks of waiting for 2021 songs to drop, four will come on Thursday, including Roxen’s entry for Romania.
Roxen’s Eurovision 2021 entry will be released on 4 March
TVR broke the news on Tuesday with a short video message from the Romanian Head of Delegation Liana Stanciu. Speaking in Romanian, she confirmed that Roxen’s song has been chosen and will be released in two days — that’s 4 March.
In preparation for the release, Roxen has deleted all but two posts from her Instagram profile. The newest appears to be a trailer for the upcoming release. Simply captioned, “ROXALIEN / Year 2”, it features highlights from the past year. It ends with a graphic that shows everything being removed. Once the process is completed, the screen cuts to black and reads “Year 2, March 2021.

Romania at Eurovision 2021
For the first time ever, all aspects of Romania’s Eurovision package will be determined by an internal selection. As we’ve long known, Roxen was reselected following the cancellation of Eurovision 2020. The song too was picked behind-closed-doors.
Starting from 1 February, she Roxen recorded a number of demo versions. These were then be sent to a panel of experts which chose the final song for Rotterdam. TVR has now revealed the jury members:
- Luminiţa Anghel — “Let Me Try” singer (Eurovision 2005)
- Andrei Tudor — “Pe-o margine de lume” composer (Eurovision 2008)
- Liana Stanciu — Head of Delegation
- Lucian Ștefan — Founder of Global Records
- Bogdan Păun — Director and Founder of NGM Creative
- Liviu Elekes — Composer
- Bogdan Pavlică — Radio manage and director
- Dan Manoliu — Former Head of Delegation
- Gabriel Scîrlet — Music director
Are you excited for Roxen’s song reveal? Can it top “Alcohol You”? Let us know in the comments.
A song like Cherry Red will definitely win
Also just heard the leak and I have really enjoyed the song, waiting for the release for better quality!
Just heard the leak… not impressed to be honest. But at least she’s not trying to be Billie Eilish anymore, so good for her.
Fingers crossed that Roxen has a great successor song to alcohol you. Bring Romania back into the final for the first time since 2017!
cannot wait. her songs last year were exceptional and modern!
I wish she could do an online voting but it’s fine i guess. Alcohol You was my most listened ESC song last year, very original and catchy.
Well Billie Eilish hasn’t had a song out in a few months so she’s got nobody to use for source material.
Be original Roxen, be you.
Her new song is called: “Dont call me when I’m sober”
Because it sure isn’t as though young women making emotional indie-inspired pop music could be totally unique, right?
They can @joe
Roxen isn’t unique though. Even her style throughout the ESC process was a rip off Billie, to the extent that it started to look cringe.
Still not as bad as Victoria lol
She dives ALL IN to look like Billie
You might as well add Tate McRae, Sub Urban, Lorde, Tove Lo, Beabadoobee, and AU/RA into the list of people who rip-off Billie Eilish because I’m pretty sure you and Darren don’t know s**t about Indie Pop, Alt Pop or Dark Pop is or what it looks like
@pancake doesn’t know sh!t about @Darren and what he does, so his remark is null and void.
Huge expectations for this Thursday, Hooverphonic, Jeangu and Roxen were all between my favorites last year. Also curious to see if Moldova will go into Katy Perry mode as the promo pic suggests.
Here’s an updated breakdown of artist/song selections (and I’m going on the assumption that any country that hasn’t outright said they’ll be doing a national final isn’t doing one): Returning artist, internal selection for song: Australia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Georgia, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Latvia, Malta, Moldova, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Romania, San Marino, Serbia, Slovenia, Switzerland, Ukraine, United Kingdom New artist, internal selection for song: Belarus, Cyprus, Germany Artist unconfirmed, internal selection for song: Armenia, Poland Returning artist, national final for song: Israel, Spain National final for artist and song (with returning artists in the running): Estonia, Finland,… Read more »
The Queen is coming!
Just hoping for something as good as Alcohol you….. so we can slay together the Ahoy arena this may.
ROxen for ROmania ?? in ROtterdam ESC 21…… the game is done ?!
I’m hoping that we get a music video that’s similar to least year’s lyrics videos, those were so magical and artistic. They had such nice vibes. However I’m confident that Roxen will actually bring something different and I hope the fandom won’t be judging her for bringing something fresh and opposite to what she brought last year. Same counts for the song. As we’ve seen with Cherry Red and Alcohol You and all the other songs, Roxen has range and she’s not afraid to try something new. So excited!
the 4th and 10th of march are going to be the absolute superior days
March 4th we get Romania, Netherlands, Moldova and Belgium! Wow
Ok cool, but Armenia, Poland, Switzerland, Azerbaidjan, Australia, Malta, Georgia, UK, Belarus what are you waiting for?! At least we need and deserve a reveal date! You had one year to be on point so now stop making us wait any longer.
And Russia we need to know who are these so mysterious contestants, thank you.
And Ukraine we need the final version of your entry too, thank you.
there are a few snippets of Montaigne’s song online. apparently, it’s called Technicolour.
ok thank you Ashton for the information, I’m going to look for it then.
Honestly, MOOD. What are they waiting for… It seems like Poland and Belarus don’t even know what song and artist they’re going to choose. There’s only a few weeks left and they had a whole year to prepare.
Assuming the deadline would be March 15th, we can no longer talk about weeks but rather days, so they should move quickly.
I think TVR should continue their collaboration with Global Records in upcoming years since this format of selection (artist internal/song national final) seems to bring better results.
yeahh, they were so smart to do that and I’m also so happy that Global Records see the benefit of Eurovision. I’m really looking forward to see what Romania will bring in the future.
MAKE WAY FOR THE WINNER OF ESC 2021
HYPE HYPE HYPE
Eurovision fans may have spent so much time complaining about how long the wait’s been…but when it rains, it pours! We’re gonna know a sizable chunk of this years entries by next Wednesday!
4 March is a miracle day.
Belgium, Romania, Moldova, AND the Netherlands. Then Serbia a day later, and Italy, Denmark, and Portugal the day after that.
Estonia on the 6th of March as well 🙂
And don’t forget Estonia!!
And Australia this Friday!
Thanks for everyone who says nice words about my country. With big love, greetings and respect from Romania !
