Their victory remains one of the highlights of the Eurovision Song Contest in its 65 year history. In 2020, when viewers were asked to vote afresh, they re-emerged as the winner of #EurovisionAgain 2014. Austria’s Conchita WURST ALWAYS keeps it real! And this is particularly evident in the new single “Bodymorphia”.

The song merges rap, raw sexuality and synth beats whilst encouraging listeners to practice self-love. WURST, a.k.a. Tom Neuwirth, is no stranger to turning masculinity on its head, and he succeeds (yet again) in breaking down the walls of his limitations and self-perception.

WURST – “Bodymorphia”

This energetic dance track is one of two self-written songs curated for the re-launch of the ARISE Grand Show that took place at the Friedrichstadt-Palast Berlin on 22 September 2021. Two key collaborators on this project include photographer Afred Morina and artwork creator Austin Call. Together they created a distorted version based on WURST’s ever-evolving beauty expressions.

“Won’t give you time to approve all my needs / ’cause you don’t know of the world in my dreams / and I’m ready to be seen again”, reads a line of the lyrics from Conchita WURST’s new track “Bodymorphia”.

In a press release, Tom Neuwirth explains:

“I stopped asking for permission to enjoy my life to the fullest a long time ago, and I don’t need confirmation either, from anyone. If I can give listeners – and not least all the people who will see the ARISE show live in the next two years – a tiny little boost of motivation to live their own lives a little more freely, then the song gets more rolling than I could have wished for,”

“For my producer Albin Janoska and me, it was a completely new process to write a song according to specific guidelines, where, for example, rhythmic accents have to be placed at certain points or specific key words have to be included in the lyrics. That was an exciting experience, especially to see the result blossom in the context of the show with the fantastic staging. And last but not least, we are very happy that my fans can hear the track with my voice!”

WURST’s “Bodymorphia” is less about body dysmorphia, but more about owning your sexual identity and recognising your inner calling. If there is a dance track that supports one’s need to go out and get laid, you’ve found it  — “all the glory to whom is whorey, let no one dim your light boo”.

The ARISE Grand Show takes place at the famous Friedrichstadt-Palast theatre — a venue known for its incredible shows on the world’s widest stage. For more than 100 years, the most famous artists in the world have graced its stage, including Marlene Dietrich, Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald. ARISE takes a bold step by being the first production of this scale to resume operations since the coronavirus pandemic in Germany.

Over 100 stars from 26 nations will show strength by standing up, joining hands and celebrating the immortal power of love. ARISE ignites a storm of emotion that will touch hearts with powerful imagery and great music. The addition of Conchita WURST and “Bodymorphia” to the line-up affirms the show’s inclusive ethos — love is love, and it never ends.

But that’s not all that’s in the diary. Conchita WURST will be co-hosting the Reeperbahn Festival International Music Award in Hamburg on 25 September, as well as preparing for the T.O.M. tour early next year. Confirmed dates include: Cologne (7 February), Berlin (8 February), Hamburg (9 February) and Prague (10 February), as well as in Munich (15 February), Linz (17 February), Graz (18 February) and Vienna (19 February) in February 2022.

“Bodymorphia” lyrics – Conchita WURST

I drink a cup of purity to celebrate the times
dream away reality no borders on my mind

sickening beauty
is all that you see
glossy glow seductive

drag the shine
pull the train
get dirt to flirt
repulsive

turn me off
turn me on
disgustingly delicious

take me in
like a sin
apple fruit oh luscious

all the glory to whom is whorey
let no one dimm your light boo

pop the tongue
show me hun
how bad you want me in u

stretch your neck
arch your back
breathe in and kiss me tender

down your leg
up your ass
show off beautiful creature

won’t give you time to approve all my needs
’cause you don’t know of the world in my dreams
and i’m ready ready ready to be seen again

ain’t not greater light than the one within me
you got it too, raise up, follow me
so we are ready ready ready to be seen again

beauty is sick
grace the filth
grunt and pose
seductive

come on ma’am
work the glam
more dirt to flirt
repulsive

show your neck
stretch your arms
the star of double feature

down your leg
up your ass
show off
beautiful creature

won’t give you time to approve all my needs
’cause you don’t know of the world in my dreams
and i’m ready ready ready to be seen again

ain’t not greater light than the one within me
you got it too, raise up, follow me
so we are ready ready ready to be seen again

Just looking at the comments here, yikes, y’all toxic lol. But I do feel this song is a giant letdown from a Eurovision winner. Loved “Hit Me,” this not so much 🙁

As a fan of Conchita WURST/Tom I can say, he is very happy with being a man and being referred to as “he”, but also that he doesn’t care, because it’s not important. I love him for many reasons, but also for him challenging the perception of gender roles. He wants to do what he likes and that he does. So well done!

“They” and “them” do not refer to more than one person. Those are gender neutral pronouns, the way “her” and “she” are female pronouns, and “he” and “him” are male. C’est tout.

Of course it’s not discrimination. You just don’t recognize the existence of non-binary people. Totally different. Of course.

If you cared that much, maybe you would have used some commas in your second sentence.
