Be sure to mark Friday 1 March in your diaries. This is the date that Olly Alexander is set to release his Eurovision 2024 song into the world, which the UK star has also confirmed will be called “DIZZY”.
Olly made the announcement via his social media channels. Alongside a picture of him upside down whilst riding a swing, the Years & Years frontman stated: “i actually can’t wait to perform this on the eurovision stage….omg”
The song is already available to pre-save on streaming services.

Spikes in dizziness over the coming weeks
The release date reveal comes after Olly shared a weather-themed teaser video on Tuesday. Introduced by BBC weather presenter Carol Kirkwood, Olly goes on to warn us of a “rare phenomena of dizzy spells running towards our dear island.”
With these dizzy spells “coming all the way from Sweden,” it seems clear that the video features teasers about his Eurovision song and performance. This peculiar weather phenomenon is set to be with us for a while, because Olly notes “there isn’t an end to these dizzy spells for the foreseeable just yet.”
The British singer goes on to display four temperatures on the UK map behind him — 1, 7, 11, 29. He states these numbers “should act as a pre-warning of further spikes to come across the impending weeks.”
Naturally, there has been much speculation over what the numbers could mean. Many have been quick to suggest they indicate dates of events over the coming months.
With “DIZZY” now having a confirmed release date of 1 March, the date theory has a lot of merit to it — and allows us to tick “1” off the list. But what about the others?
- 7: Some have speculated this could be 7 May, the semi-final in which the UK will vote in and when Olly will present a clip of his rehearsal performance. Others have instead suggested 7 April, which so happens to be the date of the London Eurovision Party — it is custom for the UK act to headline the event, and this could perhaps be where Olly plans on giving his first live performance of “DIZZY”.
- 11: This is the one most people seem in agreement on. The Eurovision grand final will be held on 11 May. Since the UK is an automatic qualifier, we definitely know Olly will be appearing in Saturday’s show.
- 29: With “DIZZY” set for release on streaming services on 1 March, Olly could be planning an event the day before, 29 February, to officially launch his Eurovision campaign and potentially reveal the music video of the song. Or could there be something else in the works for either 29 March or 29 April?

There are a number of other phrases Olly uses in the video that may well be references to his Eurovision adventure. Perhaps song lyrics, or clues about his live performance.

Dizzigon
That’s not the only teaser Olly Alexander has recently dropped about “DIZZY”. In his Instagram story, he shared a video about Dizzigon — a medicine to prevent dizziness from “kissing and romantic spinning.”
It came with a list of side effects, which may also give us some hints about the lyrics of “DIZZY”:

- No stopping
- Hand holding
- Kisses
Other warnings that come with the medicine include:
- Anti-dizziness is not guaranteed

Caught in the act
“DIZZY” may be under lock and key until 1 March, but Olly has made one little slip up.
TikTok star BECK shared a video to her 1.4 million followers that shows the soon-to-be Eurovision star singing in a stairwell. BECK claims that Olly was singing a snippet of his Eurovision song “DIZZY”.
Olly does appear to be wearing the same outfit that we see in the weather and Dizzigon teasers, suggesting it was filmed on the same day.

Yeah Olly Alexander is who I’m most excited about this year so far. The rehearsals in April/May will be when the odds start to shape up.
How can people judge a song and write such long reviews about 20 seconds? The song Will be about 180 seconds long, you have Heard 20… There are still 160 seconds more. But 20 seconds is enough for many people to know that the song is lame, boring, not risky, familiar, nostalgic, exciting, unexciting and a long etc… WoW! People and their superpowers.
“Familiar and nostalgic..” Is it the same thing as dated and heard it a million times before? I know that’s a phrase that never grow old here..

‘Dizzy’ is pretty tame for Danny Harle (who is the producer). As a long standing fan of Harle’s music, I enjoy the things that make him more leftfield in his approach to making sounds that become ear-worms. One of my favourites in his unique approach is ‘Flowers’, which almost sounds like a video game on acid. The bass line, lilting melody and the psychedelia take you on such a journey, so I was holding our for something just as quirky and annoyingly weird. Also I hear some people saying “It’s not risky enough”: How many risky songs have won Eurovision recently? Was Tattoo a risky song? What about Arcade or Stefania? I agree 100%. Safe songs are actually the ones that win. Apart from the ones you already mentioned (bar “Stefania” – if it wasn’t Ukraine it wouldn’t have won) I will add Keiino who won the televoting in 2019 with a basic Eurodance track. Even Måneskin won with something that is barely innovative. The fandom has this weird tendency to demand something unique and eclectic, but this can be completely hit or miss – Konstrakta and Go_A succeeded, while as you mentioned Blanca Paloma and Alvan failed miserably. Konstrakta, Go_A and Blanca Paloma were all good. I don’t even think Blanca flopped, she got 100 points in total. Let’s see how many Nebulossa get this year. Alvan did flop but results aren’t everything. Personally I prefer an interesting “flop” rather than a song thay I could hear every day in the radio.
I should have clarified that I’m talking about the public vote – Blanca Paloma got 0 there. And sure, I prefer listening to various stuff and that’s why I make my own Spotify playlists every year and I don’t care about the results. Thanks for correcting me about Blanca Paloma, but you get my point. Tbf I wasn’t directing my previous comment to you, but it’s a very common issue that I’ve encountered so many times and it’s exactly what happening with UK’s entry this year before even listening to the whole song.
I should add we are all guilty of “spinning the results” sometimes. If you ask people how Eaea did, people who like it will tell you it got 100 points and people who didn’t like it will tell you it was last in the televote. Ask about Tatto and people who like it will say it won overall while people who don’t will say it was only second in the televote.
That’s totally true. But the facts are facts. Loreen won and that’s a fact that doesn’t change whatever way you present it. When it comes to predictions though it’s easy for everyone to say whatever they want since it’s still a hypothesis and not a fact. That’s where people need to realise that their personal preferences don’t determine the fate of the actual results and when they project their preferences to their predictions about the results that’s nothing more than wishful (or hateful) thinking.

If you watched The Late Late Show then you wouldn’t be surprised. Apart from the fact that Bambie Thug was actually the best of the evening there was a clear effort from RTÉ to move away from ‘safe’ choices, which was mentioned or implied multiple times during the show by the presenter and the guest panel. Yes. But at least 3 of the 6 acts were “safe” but luckily it did not backfire. I disagree though that this “risky” choice will not have the same impact at ESC. If you gave me a free bet that Ireland will not qualify – or win, I would take the second of the two. We’ll see.

They need to nail the staging, the way that Konstrakta and Go_A did, and I still don’t think it’s enough to win. It’s not enough to have a certain amount of people that love the song in a 25-strong field to win. You need to be able to reach larger audiences and this is very difficult with such a polarising song. Ya know… they aren’t gonna give too much away through a 20 second snippet as it would ruin the anticipation for the full song, the bookmakers seem to agree as the odds have barely changed since this snippet was released.
Super safe and unexciting, as Rich commented below. Perhaps the staging and performance can elevate the song but by no means that snippet justifies 2nd place in the odds and a contester for the win. Let’s wait and see. If I am wrong, I will admit this early criticism.

Exactly that. As I described above fans tend to project their wishful (or hateful) thinking to their predictions about the results. It doesn’t work this way though and especially in this case, where we haven’t even listened to the whole song. That’s why I always take these comments with a pinch of salt, but at the same time I find them harmful for the community – hate never did any good to anyone.
It’s my opinion. And yes, as a senior Eurovision fan, I can judge from a 20-second clip. Most of the fans let their personal tastes and preferences (or wishful thinking) guide their opinions and spill their nasty comments around.
I wish the UK sent something of the level and style of Sam Ryder’s “Spaceman”. Back then (but obviously you don’t / can’t / don’t want to remember), a snippet made the fans split again. “How can you judge from a 20′ clip?”.

It’s encouraging that he wants to go, as he genuinely seems to love the contest. The sad thing is, that if you’re an established artist the whole management etc don’t want you to take risks. They want predictable, as you can read in comments below “oh so nice, like years and years, he stays true blabla”. If you want to win, you need to take risks and outsmart/surprise others. I don’t understand the whole “you need to take risks ” rationale. Did Loreen take any risks last year? I recall so many comments calling her song bland and generic. Why is everyone overthinking it? I totally believe that artists should do what they feel comfortable with. The public wants to hear nice songs and “Dizzy” seems to be one. What UK and BBC need to be careful is the staging – this is where a song can be ruined or stand out and become memorable – and the vocals, but I have no doubts that Olly will deliver.

I can add so many more songs to this list such as “Telemóveis”, “Zero Gravity” or “Who the hell is Edgar?”. And plenty more before them. Obviously taking risks is going to be risky, and worse on average that not taking risks. But sometimes taking risks pays off, both in terms of a great song (Hatrid Mun Sigra was great in my opinion – I understand others disagree) and in terms of winning (Salvador Sobral was taking a huge risk with his song, relative to the mainstream/pop friendly stuff in the radio).

I am crossing my fingers for a great entry/package from UK. Uk really deserves to be top 5 this year, even if only for the fantastic hosting of last year. So crossing my fingers that there wont be a curse of last years hosts happening this year!
Based on all songs AND performances so far i feel that France and Norway has the best chances as of now, this is including all songs still taking part in national selection… but we of course dont know all the Swedish songs yet though…
Well you can never please everyone of course but the level of negativity has maybe surprised me a little bit. Every time I see hate from the community I know that there’s something stirring the pot and UK this year has attracted lots of interest by sending a well established artist (at least for the British public). Agreed! This is only a snippet with poor sound quality- not enough to form a final view. There is enough in the snippet to imply potential and Olly can definitely deliver a performance.
No one allows the UK to be or not to be close to the podium. When the UK sends a good entry, voila! 2nd place for the legendary Sam Ryder. He had nothing to risk (vs established artists) and his song was admittedly unique (plus the strongest male vocals on ESC for yearss). Good luck to the UK!

From the tiny clip so far I’m a bit indifferent. A few thoughts and hopes. Olly is undoubtably the biggest established star the UK has sent in decades. The snippet sounds true to the style of Years and Years, which I like! It’s too short for me to make an opinion but it sounds promising and it’s enough to keep me hooked!
Next year (somewhere mid-winter) we can expect announcements such as “My song’s title begins with a D…”
Generally though, it does seem to me that the quality of Space Man was a one time thing. I’m sure it will be better than last year’s train wreck but nowhere near Sam.
I don’t think Spaceman did well because of the quality of the song. I Wrote A Song was a much better song for me but you have to be able to knock the performance out of the park to do well.

Believe me us Brits are under no illusion. We absolutely know the reason why we’ve done so bad at Eurovision over the past two decades is because of the awful songs. This hits on many levels for me, I know it’s a 20 second snippet but, this reminds me of early 2000s pop banger that has been remimagined for today.
