Fans of Emmy’s 2021 song “Witch Woods” are in for a treat. The Melodi Grand Prix alum is competing in Ireland’s Eurovision 2025 selection with “Laika Party.”

Given the astronaut imagery the single comes with, it’s safe to say it refers to the Soviet space dog who perished outside of our world.

Norwegian singer EMMY will compete in Ireland’s Eurosong 2025 with “Laika Party”

About EMMY

Here’s how the Irish broadcaster describe her.

EMMY is a 24-year-old Norwegian singer-songwriter. She was born and raised in a family that loves music and has been singing her whole life. When she was seven, she started making her own songs, both alone and with her brother, who is also a singer-songwriter.

Her career got a kick-start in 2015 when she, as a 15-year-old, participated in Melodi Grand Prix Junior, one of the biggest music competitions in her country, for children. Six years later, in 2021, she participated in Melodi Grand Prix, Norway’s national selection of a song for Eurovision Song Contest. The song she performed was Witch Woods.

Today, she is especially known for singing on TikTok, and has a profile with 1.2 million followers, from around the world. She has also been working with big artist producers, such as K-391 and Braaheim.

In 2024, she was in Los Angeles, Latvia and France taking part in songwriting sessions. Emmy is also a freelance graphic designer.

It’s OK.

Four songs in, Bobbi Arlo still feels very much like the one to go for.

She has an easier chance going to ESC for Ireland than Norway

Have you listened to the MGP songs this year? Versus the ones so far in Eurosong? I don’t agree…

Is it just me or is this song incredibly moving? On the face of it, it is a straightforward dance track, but is it really all about death, loss and living forever in the minds of the ones we leave behind? I love the tracks that make me want to dance and cry at the same time!

Indeed, I suppose if you didn’t know Laika was a space dog then the song would be a lot less sweet and have a much darker tone. As for the music, it’s all firmly in D minor drama until 2:36. But after that it modulates to F minor, which is a little bit like a launching pad to death in the sky at that point; I see that’s obviously the intention there. So yes, without the dance beat, it’s quite a sad song really.

Who are the songwriters?

Is there anything to explain why this is in the Irish selection and not MGP?

Fionnuala Sherry, an Irishwoman, won for Norway 30 years ago. This must be returning the favour.

Songwriters: Emmy, Henrik Østlund, Larissa Tormey, Truls Marius Aarra and Erlend Guttulsrud Kristiansen.

Producers: Henrik Østlund and Jonas Jensen.

So, I guess you’re not Jonas Jensen then, aha.

The Irish link here is piano singer-songwriter Larissa Tormey.

Emmy, wow, it’s so great to hear from Emmy again. Such a pleasant surprise for me, and I love simple sweet dance tracks like this as well. Plus there’s Laika spinning around the globe again. Good times.

Well produced and yes i would say the Keiino influence is there. This will certainly appeal across Europe. 5 down who will be number 6?

Ireland has great options this year definetely. I really loved this one too. It has everything to become a hit in Europe and abroad imo.

This song is very catchy and the only real popsong of this national final and the lyrics are fun. But I dont like her girlish voice that much though… so I don’t think it will win. People who are into that juvenile “Fille a papa” from Belgium should LOVE this though!

This feels very childish, very TikTok, not necessarily in a bad way, it should have its audience.
Remember that time a good few years ago when a troop of lesbians sang a song about Laika in MGP? The Norwegians really like that little dog.

The worst so far. But seeing the quality of the other it is a huge step forward. Other years this would have been the best..
Not bad but dated. Had it been 2005 it would have been contender to win ESC.

Meant toe say it is a strong selection and that this is the weakest when it would have been strong in another year.

Not feeling this one, and not really expecting it to win to be honest.

Sorry. Emmy is cool though and hopefully gets her ESC chance at some point

It’s fine but the other three entries are better. So far I am leaning towards Bobbi as the best choice.

So far it is a good varied selection. Well done Ireland for making improvements compared to pre Bambi.

Agreed!

I do love me some Samatha Mumba but unfortunately it is not as good as Powerplay.

Interested to see who the final contestant will be- it is a male so the Lyra and Nicole O Brien leaks were wrong.

I suppose this is the joy of Eurovision that songs impact us all differently. Powerplay is the most memorable song for me of the Irish songs this week and it keeps popping into my head.

I don’t think so… There’s one more male soloist as far as I know (via Ray Darcy). I think Lyra/Reylta names may have gotten ear-mushed together.

It’s dated and hasn’t a chance of winning but honestly if this is the worst we’ve got that shows how far we’ve come from past years.
