At Junior Eurovision 2016, Cyprus’ George Michaelides will sing the Andreas Anastasiou-produced club banger, “Dance Floor”. But this isn’t just frothy pop. As the “Dance Floor” lyrics make clear, this is an anthem to independence and living your life your way: “My hands outstretched, and I spin round, my heart belongs to me, my life belongs to me…”
The song is unlike any of the other entries we’ve heard so far. It kicks off with a thump, and then takes in the wonderful Paphos backdrop, before dropping you in an Aiya Napa inspired nightclub.
George serves upbeat energy throughout, and his passion for this europop number is relentless (YES!!). The transition from Greek to English and back to Greek is seamless, hooking in the listeners with the refrain “My world is a dancefloor.”
It in unclear whether George will have backing dancers or singers with him in Malta. However, after hearing this tune for three minutes, I just wanna keep it on loop.
DANCE FLOOR- English Lyrics
My hands outstretched
And I spin round
My heart belongs to me
My life belongs to me
My hands up
And I reach for the light
The stars are in line
And the sky belongs to me
Look at my step
Which digs into the ground
Around the world
Hearts beat together
It’s a small step
But I open my wings
I step on the sun
And reach afar…
My world is a dance floor
My world is a dance floor
My hands outstretched
And I spin round
My heart belongs to me
My life belongs to me
My hands up
And I reach for the light
The stars are in line
And the sky belongs to me
Look at my step
Which digs into the ground
Around the world
Hearts beat together
It’s a small step
But I open my wings
I step on the sun
And reach afar…
My world is a dance floor
My world is a dance floor
My heart is beating like a drum
Feel the rhythm
My heart is beating like a drum
Feel the rhythm
This is who I am!
My hands outstretched
And I spin round
My heart belongs to me
My life belongs to me
Don’t search far off
This is me
This fire
This dance…
