Last month, Croatian broadcaster HRT officially announced in a press conference that they were bringing back their national selection, Dora. Songs were able to be submitted towards the national selection until yesterday, January 10.
Now the deadline has passed, HRT has revealed they received 150 songs. The next step will see a jury listen to all the songs next week.
From the 150 submitted, they’ll have to shortlist them down to just sixteen. They’ll be the songs in with a shot at representing Croatia in Tel Aviv this year.
Here’s the catch though, y’all. We’ll find out the list of shortlisted participant at the end of next week. Unfortunately – for those who like to get in early – the songs will not be heard until the actual broadcast of the contest, as stipulated in the rules from the broadcaster.
But fear not! While we’re waiting for the songs, take a look at HRT’s Eurovision-specific Facebook page. Here you can find many videos taken from the broadcaster’s archives, showing performances from previous editions of Dora.
Dora and the Eurovision Song Contest
Dora was launched in 1993 to select Croatia’s first Eurovision entry as an independent nation. The national final was used consistently from 1993 to 2011 and gave Croatia six top-ten finishes.
Croatia’s best Eurovision results came from the Dora years. In 1996, Maja Blagdan placed fourth with “Sveta ljubv”, then in 1999 Doris Dragovic also placed fourth with “Marija Magdalena”.
From 2012 onwards, Croatian acts have been internally selected by the broadcaster, with mixed results. Of the five acts, only two have qualified for the grand final – but all have delivered good performances.
Nina Kraljic made it to the grand final in Stockholm and placed 23rd, while in 2017 Jacques Houdek took home an impressive 13th place — Croatia’s best Eurovision result in more than a decade.
Houdek had competed at Dora six times previously, but ironically the year he finally went to Eurovision was as a result of internal selection.
Last year in Lisbon, Croatia was represented by Franka. With her song “Crazy”, she finished in 17th place in the semi-final.

based on information from the Croatian media, it seems that the well-known artists are not ready to participate, one of the main names will be Kedzo, who said he has a good band and supposedly a song and would like to win a qualification and achieve a very good result at Eurovision
Jacques wrote and submitted a song for Roko Blazevic and the song is called “The Dream”…poprock opera with rap brigde and ethnic undertones in 3 languages incoming….

I know it is a joke ?
Old-school. Well, it could be interesting and exciting. I can’t even remember watching an NF where I didn’t know the songs beforehand.
