Eesti Laul 2022 returns this Saturday with its fourth and last quarter-final. Broadcaster ERR has now revealed the ten acts who will compete at the weekend.
The line-up includes a number of familiar names, both from previous editions of Eesti Laul as well as from Eurovision. This week’s selection is diverse, with songs in multiple languages.
Eesti Laul 2022 quarter-final four: Competing acts and songs
- Púr Múdd, Shira – “Golden Shores”
- Elysa – “Fire”
- Dramanda – “Tule minu sisse”
- Emily J. – “Quicksilver”
- Ott Lepland – “Aovalguses”
- Eleryn Tiit – “Tunnete keel”
- Jessica – “My mom”
- Minimal Wind feat. elisabeth tiffany – “What to Make of This”
- Ariadne – “Shouldn’t Be Friends”
- Black Velvet – “Sandra”
The most notable name of this fourth and last quarter-final is Ott Lepland. He won Eesti Laul in 2012 and went on to finish sixth at Eurovision in Baku with his powerful Estonian ballad “Kuula”. This will be the second time we see Ott at Eesti Laul 2022, after he hosted the third quarter final last week.
Elysa, who’s also know by her real name Elisa Kolk, competed in Eesti Laul 2015. Púr Múdd competed in several contests, most recently in 2020. We saw their co-featuring act, Shira, as recently as last week, where she competed in the third quarter-final of Eesti Laul 2022.
Ariadne is a name that will be familiar to Eesti Laul fans as well. Back in 2017, she finished sixth in the final of the show with her song “Feel Me Now”, which was branded as a fan favourite. Emily J. on the other hand, competed in Eesti Laul 2019, making the final alongside the group xtra basic.
We won’t be able to here the songs until the quarter-final itself. But we don’t have long to wait as the fourth quarter-final of Eesti Laul 2022 takes place this Saturday 11 December at 20:35 CET (21:35 EET).
Getter Jaani and Jüri Pootsmann will host the quarter-final. Both are former Estonian Eurovision acts. Getter reached the final of Eurovision 2011 with “Rockefeller Street”, being a fan favourite. Jüri competed in Stockholm in 2016 with “Play”, written by Stig Rästa. Last year, Jüri managed to reach the superfinal of Eesti Laul with the Estonian-language song “Magus melanhoolia”.

Are you excited about Ott Lepland and Ariadne being in Eesti Laul 2022? Whose song are you most looking forward to hearing during the third quarter-final on Saturday? Sound off in the comments below!
I´m very glad that Ott Lepland is back. “Kuula” is one of my favourites ever at ESC.
By saying “This week’s selection is diverse, with songs in multiple languages”, does it mean one or more of the songs will be sung in languages other than English and Estonian?
Our to-a-degree reliable friend Google translate gives all non-English titles as Estonian.
Tule minu sisse – Come inside me
Aovalguses – In the Light
Tunnete keel – Feel the language
If I’m not mistaken, they were referring to songs which were submitted to ERR among the 200 hopefuls. It’s reasonable to believe that some of them might have been left aside before the quarterfinals.
Well, if you think in another way, maybe the song named “fire” is actually a song in other languages. As far as I know, “fire” means “four” in Norwegian…
Google translate is not doing its work this time.
“Tunnete keel” means “Language of feelings”. “Aovalguses” — “in the light of dawn” 🙂
Thanks. The latter in particular shows the dangers of automatic translation, as both of these words are likely roughly translated well, but their mutual correlation isn’t. Thus, the meaning crumbles down. I did get that it’s about languages, though…. vague af, but it’s something. 😉 Still, this is the most we usually get, as most selections don’t put out their official translations. I am happy that native speakers are willing to correct or modify. Again, much appreciated. 🙂
help not “come inside me” being correct
Loved Ott’s last entry, but curious why have him be a host of a semi and then compete against…it feels like they are giving a competing artist unfair advantage
What kind of unfair advantage you mean? He hasn’t listened or seen the others’ songs or videos of this QF. Videos and songs have been ready over the month, no changes there. Estonia is so small country, everybody knows everybody and he is already well known person, no advantage from he was last QF on TV.
A bit unfair that Ott was a host too, he get’s more screentime and therefore he is getting more visibility for himself. ERR pushing him for the win for all I can see.
I don’t think it’s that deep
Off:
GERMANY – Eskimo Callboy will represent Germany!
Isn’t there a NF confirmed?
Fake news, Germany is holding a national final next year.
excited for ariadne! i loved her last entry, i feel like she could be a contender this year
Ott lepland please similar song Kuula
He said that vocally it´s gonna be one of the most difficult songs to sing for him so he´s gonna have to start preparing and practicing… sounds promising 🙂
Edu Estonia! Hoping we’ll have our winner of Eesti Laul in this quarterfinal. I can’t say any of the songs I’ve heard give me “winner” impressions, unless they undergo a good revamp. I’m feeling optimistic though!
I was hoping Juri is gonna compete again but oh well..
Happy Ott is back..Kuula was in my top 5 in 2012…
Btw I noticed all four QF are hosted my male-female duo host
I was hoping to see Vanilla Ninja or Lenna so much… (she has a really lovely duet with Ivo Linna now, these two eurovision stars continuing to slayyyyyyy)
I was hoping to see Kerli so much…
Ew lol
You should really forget this idea cause she stated in an interview that there´s no more reason to waste her time with Eesti Laul after that 2nd place drama because of some votes that didn´t go through… not that I agree cause I think that Verona was a stronger entry and had a lot more support from televoters starting from the semi-final… you can see that in the split results
Sounds like there’s at least some nice entries here! I’m glad ’cause I was feeling concerned about Estonia
It will be great to see Ott competing again. So Shira has another chance? I’m fine with that. And I wonder if the jury knew that and if it influenced their decision on the last quarterfinal.
yes, important question. also hosting the third quarterfinal and then competing, like, come ooon, Elina Born could not host the show? (she was speaking in the trailer for EL 2022 besides others, also with competing Elina Netchayeva which is also a bit lol) or Robin Juhkental from Malcolm Lincoln? Sandra Nurmsalu? Eesti Laul is getting weirder, I am almost surprised Shira is not hosting and competing in the 4QF at the same time
Whatevs!
In Shira’s case, maybe they considered the duo as a separated act. If her next entry is stronger, I’ll start thinking that they put it in a quarterfinal full of big names to avoid her qualifying with 2 entries and risking a Monika Marija situation.
Ott hosting a quarterfinal and competing in the next one is indeed weird. He’s getting promoted more than his competitors after all. Something that could be easily avoided.
my boi ott MUST advance!!
He will. Every other former representative qualified with ease. His song would have to be a real trainwreck for him not to advance, and I really don’t see that happening. I am happy to have Ott back competing. *If* it’s a song nearly as strong as Kuula, he could be adding his hat to the pool of frontrunners.
PS. I am happy to see Shira competing again. I hope that this song is also good, and that we’ll see her in the semis.
You haven’t heard his song yet. You have no idea whether he deserves to or not.
Ott is back!!!! Yay!!!
I take it you haven’t felt winner vibes of any of the Estonian entries so far in the quarterfinals?
It’s live performances that will make a difference once the semi finals of final comments in February.
Fan favourite song sang by Ariadne 2017 was written by current head producer 😀
Wait a sec, Shira is actually competing With two different songs for Eesti Laul? I didn’t think that was permitted, but I guess it’s not the last we’ll see of her
Estonia historically has seen local artists field in more than one song in their national selection so this is a phenomenon that is not entirely new. 🙂
As far as I remember, the same thing happened in the Maltese national selection a few years ago. I forgot the band’s name, but one of the members competed individually as well.
