How is the running order decided?
The Eurovision running order is decided through a two-step process. First, the finalists randomly choose from a pot whether they would perform in the first half or the second half of the grand final. Producers then arrangeed the acts considering two main criteria (1) creating an interesting show (aka, mixing up genres and the visual flow and feel of the show) and (2) practicalities (like how long it will take to construct and deconstruct various stage props).
Does running order impact a country’s chances of victory?
It is generally considered favourable to perform from a later position in the running order. Several recent winners performed in the second half of the show, including Italy’s Måneskin (24th in 2021), Israel’s Netta (22nd in 2018), Ukraine’s Jamala (21st in 2016) and Denmark’s Emmelie de Forest (18th in 2013).
But winning from an earlier position isn’t unheard of. Sweden’s Måns Zelmerlöw (10th), Portugal’s Salvador Sobral (11th) and The Netherlands’ Duncan Laurence (12th) all performed in the first half.
The only running order position to have never produced a winner is the second place draw, often considered “the death slot”. But remember — there’s a first time for everything!
What do you think? Are you happy with the grand final running order? Let us know in the comments below.
UK 22. Year 2022 and winner. Nice. This year my top 3:
UK
Italy
Sweden
Last year my top 3:
Italy
France
Switzerland
(I posted this list on may articles last year)
One must not forget that the United Kingdom is usually overestimated in the odds compared to the end result.
But in any case, it will probably go better for them than what the country has done for a long time in Eurovision
In the betting
Croatia, I knew it wouldn’t qualify but it is right up my musical alley.
Eurovision without politics
If Ukraine wins, then maybe I will never watch Eurovision
You live in a delusion if you think:
12. If you think MPsci’s comment was of any interest…
I know it hurt but yeah…
All of these aren’t my delusions, they’re actually my FEARS that may happen tomorrow, lmaooo.
Literally, it’s all of my negative thoughts and doubts about some excellent entries, summed up in an entire list.
I’m not worrying about Norway flopping with the jury, I’m worried about their televote. I want them to get more than 200 points and I have no idea if it’ll happen. I can only vote and hope.
Ukraine can win the televote, they probably did in the semi and could in the final Ukraine can win the jury vote sure (Only for political reasons…) The televote for UK and Spain could actually be very good. It can also be just ok. We shall see. Poland’s song stands on it’s on two feet. If people don’t respond to it after two ballads, they would not have responded in any other case Italy won’t win again yeah They def aren’t. No one wants to host twice in a row No sure what you mean by this? Do you mean… Read more »
“BTW you can express your opinion and not call someone delusional while doing it. Just saying”. Yep. I disliked as well.
The future is always just a delusion. Untouchable, out of reach. I wrote a song about it when I was 13.
As a summary: all the countries will do badly tonight. Nobody will win for the first time in history.
Honestly I am very VERY unhappy with this running order.
However I hope all the artists have a good time and that no one gets 0 points
This year there’s a massive ammount of hateful comments, it makes it hard to believe that a community like ours has gone in the wrong direction. Many artists have previously expressed that the Eurovision fans are the reason for not participating, we should all remember to behave a lot better!
I don’t care who wins tomorrow night, but no matter who it would be, I won’t be spreading hateful comments.
The toxicity has certainly risen this year. This is also the first year I decided to dive into Wiwibloggs website comments and I must say there are many people here that are very bitter, unkind and plain awful to communicate with.
This is the social media effect: the less you have to say, the louder you say it with hatred and disrespect.
Hope for the future, in the midst of (man-made) chaos. I think that was what they were thinking when they put Stefan (Estonia) last. They want that to be the last message in this contest.
What about the middle with Italy, Spain, Netherlands and Ukraine. According to the latest odds the # 4, 5, 9 and 1. Not too shabby.
Looking good for the UK, will be either UK or Sweden.
I don’t think Ukraine will do well enough with juries to win.
Unless it’s the landslide that happened with Oklahoma in ASC?
Just remember that, apart from Europe wide sympathy votes and Stefania being a pretty decent song, there are many Ukrainian refugees spread over Europe. This will also boost the public vote.
Not sure that Ukrainian refugees care about Eurovision at this moment but who knows
Alright, I’m currently physically cringing at the entire Wiwiw team in the Jury Show livestream, for suddenly waking up at Chanel’s entrance, after almost 7 entries with similar energy have passed before Spain minutes before….
I must have missed when Maro from portugal dropped to the floor, or when Mahmood and Blanco did a standing split while singing
Best ever response to that nonsense of comment
They don’t have to because they’ve actually got some fine songs, unlike Chanel’s JLo leftovers.
At least Chanel isnt about to make half of europe fall asleep
And having the leftovers of one of the most iconic latin artists ever is not the negative you think it is
Alright, I may have gone a bit overboard with a few of my latest comments so I’ll just end it here and wish the Spanish all the best, no matter how I feel about your song. Also, just so you know, I’d actually love to see MARO do something like that, lol.
Nice comeback, I’ll give you that for your creativity actually, haha.
Get a life mate
Serbia are you kidding people? Who likes this crap?
Another idiot guys
Putin does
Czech robbed by EBU again …
Well, it is the 1st slot, not the 2nd 🙂 so, no, we are not robbed. Let´s have fun and maybe a Top 12 finish 🙂 and i really hope for more thany 7 televote points…
What an exciting year. No one can tell if its going to be Ukraine, UK, Sweden, Italy, Spain or Serbia. The only sure thing is that, after Russia is gone, Spain has become Eurovision’s most hated country.
LOL, guess why? :))
Umm, why?
Yeah, tell us why. I mean, as a spaniard I know how annoying can the spanish eurofans be against other spaniards. But look at the comments in this post. I see tons of toxicity but very few spanish.
I mean, this year, the toxicity levels of *SPECIFIC* Spanish people (to be 100% fair, around 30-40 certain individuals are the ones that cause the main problems) against other entries have gone over the ceiling on media like Youtube, Twitter or Instagram (aka, the big-three). At least, however, I can aknowledge that there doesn’t seem to be many of those people here, this site thankfully seems to attract almost exclusively the Spanish fans that are respective towards all artists.
Very well then. I am spanish and i’ll be delighted if Sweden, UK, Italy ir Serbia wins. And for Spain, I just wish we make It into the top 5.
THIS IS THE BEHAVIOUR EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE, YOU SHOULD BE AN EXAMPLE FOR EVERYONE! Hell, I won’t even mind if you win, as long as you people manage to express your enthusiasm and share it with others respectively! If most Spanish people were like you since the beginning, I would actually greatly support your wishes you to win, even if I personally don’t like the song. And I also never denied before the fact that Chanel IS the performer of the year. 😀 Very often, the behaviour of others often leads me to act respectively towards them so if someone… Read more »
Me too. I’ll be especially happy if the UK wins. I love the song and they deserve some joy.
So why are you launchinf your hate against the Spanish entry HERE? Go and complaim to the “big 3”.
Hated by ONLY you I guess. Isn’t your country in the final? It hurts doesn’t it?
I made a YouTube playlist of the semifinal performances plus big 5 in the Final running order and watched it through. It was actually a very good show nearly all the songs complemented each other except having Australia UK and Poland together. Even though there are differences in song styles I felt the 3 strong male singers cancelled each other out losing their usual impact. Breaks between songs will help but it has lowered my hopes for Sam Ryder to just finishing left side.
Sam will be at least top 5. Utter nonsense
Sam will be top 5 after the jury vote. I give you that
It’s unfair against Czech Republic, because it is rubbing them the black horse chances.
But this is not the only irritation I get from this running order.
The Western betrayal again LOL….they picked 1st half, so there were not many slots left. But yeah, closing the 1st half might have been better. But then again: Let´s have fun. Czech Rep would not win anyway in any slot 🙂 and believe me, if they did, the lamentations about Italian organisation would be nothing compared to Prague 2023 :)))))))
Yall are getting out of hand. I literally just saw someone saying romania was doing the spanish theme better than Spain. Like what?? Chanel is giving superbowl level performance and she is actually spanish, representing a country that is spanish. Yall will literally do and say anything to bring that girl down
Well, what I personally see from Chanel is Latin America but nothing close to Spain. So Romania being more Spanish sounds to some extent reasonable.
shut the F**K up
The amount of hate is incredible.
Most of my faves NQ’ed this year. Ireland, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Croatia would’ve been nice additions to the final, and it’s likely that at least three of them will pull out next year 🙁
San Marino too, Achille put on a show! They should’ve qualified instead of Finland, Belgium and Azerbribejan
Can we take a moment to appreciate that every year we talk about semis being bloodbaths but this year we can safely say the final is. No act deserves last.
Except Romania, Switzerland, Belgium and Azerbaijan
I find it sad that someone can’t put a message of love on this site without someone following it up with negativity.
Serbia does. :p
Serbia is potential winner: Dont be stupid
Haha what a joke – only Diaspora votes for Serbia …. How boring
It is awful
See you in top 10 mate
Guys , think about it, second place will organize eurovision 2023
So it’s the battle for a 2nd place this year
I think they will ask one of the Top 4, Excl Italy as they are hosting this year
I really don’t like this running order. So many upbeat songs in the first half and so many ballads in the second. It is very unbalanced… But I guess it is what it is, that’s how the halves were randomly chosen by the countries… Also f*k, I was just really happy for WRS and now i’m seeing he’s going second…. Yikes
yeah major pee break between Ukraine and Greece (or even Moldova?). That part will lose TONS of viewers. I can’t believe the running order is so unbalanced..
The only country which has momentum, hype and strong enough running order to prevent Ukraine winning tomorrow is Serbia.
Unfortunately I don’t think so, but maybe potential top 10, if not top 5
Scared that my country UK will be the failed country and end up in bottom 5 hope I’m wrong as love our song this year but got a feeling that on the night we’ll end up between 17 and 23
No chance. Sam Ryder is too much hyped, has too many followers and is 2nd with the bookies. In other words, a self fulfilling prophecy. And as a bonus, he performs at the end of the show as 22nd.
Those things don’t mean much for example Ronela had a lot of hype but failed to qualify, his followers majority won’t be able to vote for him and bookies its been proven tha uk acts are overhyped by bookies
Don’t forget that Sam can sing, while Ronela…let’s say, didn’t have her day.
Still, it’s UK. Nobody cares
I don’t think so. It’s a good song with a great singer I am sure people will appreciate him.
Just despise these disgusting producer-led running orders, same incredibly predictable BS every single year, they always feel the need to give the favorable spots to the ones that are already favored, for some reason…
Guess we really got spoiled by results that finally almost made perfect sense last year, I’m afraid it’s already time to go back to cheap, mindless, artificial stuff like Spain, Norway, Poland doing much better than it has any business to while decent, genuine entries like Portugal, Greece, France, Lithuania, Iceland and so on continue getting massively underrated… Venting over.
Thanks for the free comments about spain… 😉
I was thinking the same… and you get even downvoted hahaha
Ja,ja..;)
But then its the spanish eurofans the toxic ones…
Sorry, Spanish fans, hope you’ll finally send something I feel like supporting next year, it’s been way too long.
Don’t need to be sorry! With respectful is enough ?
“canciones sesudas”, ¡jaja, me muero!
I just checked out Sam’s numerology Amazed to say he’s a master number 22 His running order ! His yearly number which will end next month is the Num 1 The magician standing alone with a bag of tricks On top of that his daily influences tomorrow astrologically are exceptionally good “This can be a time of very successful energetic activity, if you proceed cautiously enough. You may be infected with an unjustified optimism that anything you do today will “turn to gold.” It may, but it won’t happen by luck. It will happen through intelligent planning and foresight, which… Read more »
Girl I don’t know astrology but Ukraine will win for reasons that everyone knows.
Great! He’ll get the best result for UK in the last 5 years: 8-12th place!
Wasn’t his song also released on 22nd February 2022???
For another words , what the astros says about the winner? UK?or Ukraine?
I’m scared for serbia fans mental health they really believe they are going to win this year.
?
Agree – would be miracle pass 20 place
I’m going to screenshot this message and send it to you after final
i am predicting (and praying so much for) a ESC 2007 repeat showdown between serbia and ukraine. speaking it into existence
However this goes, it won’t be a race to the bottom. Everyone has a worthy entry that deserves to be there, its just how hight that entry could possibly go.
I’m still thinking Sweden will win it
I’m so excited!!!
Well , it’s a possiblity. Even though Ukraine is the top of the odds , it is followed by Sweden and UK.(both has the same percentage)
Hope that Sweden will not win;although the song is nice; got bored to see how Sweden’s songs are overrated by juries
Though I love Sweden’s entry and even felt some goosebumps during its live performance, I gotta admit that the live performance left a lot to be desired
Same like Serbia/Moldova by people
I’m going to be downvoted, but, in my personal opinion, the performance yesterday left me a bit cold. I found the production and stage quite poor I thought it wasn’t a winning performance, despite I like the song.
Kaworld, I agree I think the staging is very weak although I love the way she sings the song
Ok i’m gonna say after watching all performances it is between Spain, Ukraine and the UK for the win.
What about Sweden?
It’s going to be between Ukraine, Spain, and Poland. Ukraine will prevail at the end due to their current situation.
Don’t know where you people are getting the idea that Serbia and the United Kingdom can win. Serbia was probably borderline and qualified due to the votes of neighbouring countries. The UK has a nice song, but it won’t have enough impact to break even into the top 5.
I actually think Serbia won Semi 2. And then the running order in the final makes sense, putting Ukraine 12 and Serbia 24 exactly half way away from each other to give equal chances of winning cause Ukraine probably won Semi 1 too..
Serbia is put near the end for shock value. This is usually the part where most people tune in and get ready for the voting. Serbia would definitely generate huge attention for the contest, and I think that’s why it’s near the end.
Italy preformed last year 24th. We will see but I definitely think you are wrong about Serbia being borderline qualifier. They put her in a very good spot for a borderline qualifier. On the other hand all big male vocalist ballads Australia Poland Uk and Estonia are before and after Serbia, this will make Konstrakta stand out even more… it’s a very very good spot and it tells me she did very well in Semi 2
Should be 20 Its overatted a bad 🙁 for me 🙂
What about Sweden?
Overrated in my opinion. Don’t think it will do well, as a lot of people think.
Same like Poland 🙂
I love the song but the live performance left a lot to be desired
The running order reveals a lot in terms who did well and who did poorly. Here’s my analysis: First semi-final: Switzerland, Portugal and Lithuania probably finished in the 8-10 spots in the first semi though a lot of people thought Portugal would have done much better Norway and Greece did not do as well as people thought they would, probably finished mid-pack. Armenia and Netherlands placing suggests that Armenia presumably did better than people thought (probably in the top 5 or mid pack) and Netherlands probably finished top 3. Though placing Armenia after Norway and before Italy is an odd… Read more »
Portugal being 3rd doesn’t mean it finished 8-10 in the semifinal. Douwe Bob and Lake Malawi both finished top5 in their semifinal, the latter actually finished 2nd, and they performed 3rd. I don’t think it’s a good running order for us (we won’t be getting a good televote) but I also don’t agree this means it didn’t do well in the semifinal. I don’t even think the producer knows who won and who struggled to qualify.
Yeah agreed with that. She stands out quite well in the running order she got, although it might damage her televoting a bit. I still think this is a likely Top 10 for Portugal.
What about Sweden?
your hatred is enough.
??? Raylee
I’m so confused, I’m sure when Alina Pash won Vidbir, y’all were complaining in the comments that Kalush should’ve won and now y’all complaining about the fact they’re a shoo-in to win the televote if not the whole contest…?
Louder please, louder !!
And what Can we do anyway ! People are free to vote and it has been this way for ever, even though it came with friendly votes or supposed sympathy vote (Conchita, Salvador, jamais)
I actually thought they should’ve pulled out
So yesterday had the most disgraceful qualifiers (finland and romania) i’ve ever experienced in my 10/11 yrs of watching eurovision. how these two awful songs qualified over masterpieces such as malta, cyprus and san marino i can’t comprehend however here are some of my thoughts after. Jury voting should be 60% of the overall vote. ever since 2019 i feel like televoting has become ludicrous. as if everyone voting is drunk. apart from yesterday which was horrid, televoting had norway first in 2019 above netherlands and russia like wtf, in 2020 televoting probably would have had russia and iceland over… Read more »
but then its the spanish eurofans the toxic ones…
Spanish eurofans, in the end, are all bark no bite. They make a lot of noise, but when the moment of truth arrives, they are more about attacking their own delegation than being rude to others.
mAsTeRpIeCeS
if malta, cyprus and san marino were such masterpieces as you say, they would have easily surpassed finland and romania in terms of the votes, since these last two are so disgraceful songs.. clearly this isn’t the case. the vocals for cyprus were just not it, i don’t even remember malta’s performance and san marino is not everyone’s cup of tea…just like romania and finland are not yours. but isn’t this the whole point of this contest? please just stop being disrespecful with these rude comments and support the ones you like.
Cyprus a masterpiece? LOL
Or ot could be that eurovision fans voted for who they wanted to see again. Maybe? What is someone’s trash is another person’s treasure.
Another word for that is block voting mate. romania benefitted from having a few spanish words in it, somehow having a few spanish words seems to guarantee you good points from spain and finland wouldn’t have qualified without their block voting points from sweden estonia.
Bruh, I really thought you were serious until you said Malta should’ve qualified instead of them lmao
i might be going crazy but i think the perfect storm might be brewing for serbia to win
Don’t think so, if that’s all about politics and Serbia supports Russia, people won’t vote for them
if that were the case russia wouldn’t have placed 2nd and 3rd in the two years following the invasion of crimea. i think thats a simple way to view this
For the duck sake what Serbia supports Russia?
Dude, most people are indifferent towards geopolitics lol
It’s good at least that you have insight.
From the data it seems that Ukraine will pass the 400 televote points
which data?
Imaginary data
Source: trust me bro
I think Ukraine could win the televote but they ain’t getting over 330 televote points.
So, my algorithm was right. Safely 400+ points
Italian, here!
For several reasons I honestly think my Country has 0 chances of victory.
But really don’t mind, we did last year!
That said, I found it pretty unfair to write that Ukraine would possibily win just because of the terrible situation they’re experiencing over there.
I actually like a lot their tune, along with Sweden’s and Norway’s.
Dynamism left the chat. Pause after Portugal to install Finland’s staging, pause after Armenia to remove Rosa Linn’s one. Break after Ukraine then right away pause after Germany to remove the instruments. Pause after Belgium then pause after Sweden to install Sheldon’s stairs. Again another one right away to install Sam’s big structure and the final run. That running order….
Is this confirmed or just speculations ?
Saw some information on Twitter from people inside the arena. Maybe not a pause after Maro. But certainly after Rosa Linn in 1st half because of the house. The 2nd half will be less fluid due to Malik’s instruments, Amanda’s chairs (they put apparently an ad break after Jeremie) , Cornelia’s circle, Sheldon’s stairs and Sam’s big structure.
Things we learned from the running order:
-Ukraine and Netherlands finished top 2 in the first semi.
-Sweden probably won semi 2.
-Ad breaks are there for a reason.
-Spanish and Serbian fans are delusional.
-We already knew all the above.
Enjoy the final everybody!
Well to be fair, most of spanish and serbian fans are just happy to have a great entry. On the other side, being toxic towards others just because they don’t like their entry is not okay. As long as there are boundries, I don’t see a problem with that
Oh I’ve said many times how happy I am to see Serbia and Spain getting back to the top 10, to get attacked by Serbian and Spanish fans, that can only accept that their entries will win. That’s delusion and obsession, in pure psychiatric terms. Share love, not hate, and enjoy the music!!!
‘Share love, not hate’, but : ‘Spanish and Serbian fans are delusional.’
Thought twice before posting that?
Oh yes! Delusion is a false fixed belief that makes people obsessed about it. Nothing to do with love or hate. It’s just a fact.
Delusion is a psychological symptom. This is an opinion post.
Psychiatric to be more exact. I could use the term ‘mass hysteria’ but this is more a historic term really.
PS. I like the Spanish song and I enjoy the message behind Serbia’s entry. What’s toxic are the obsession of many Spanish and Serbian fans in here. And yes I hate that with passion. 🙂
From televote perspective, I highly doubt that both Serbian and Spanish fans are delusional. The opposite, they have extremely high chances of scoring more than 200 televote points each, respectively,
They might or might not. They will both get their best results in many years but they need to stop getting obsessed about winning. That’s toxic fandom and doing more harm than good my friend. 😉
Well, I agree your last sentence but apart from the fans’ overhyping, I personally cannot find anything wrong with the Serbian entry, I totally love it. 🙂
Well I agree with that, but then, It’s just the loud minority, really.
And that’s exactly what makes it a delusion. ‘Loud’ and ‘minority’.
Don’t stress too much about it, lol
Oh no stress dear trust me! I’ve been watching the contest 30 years now, and I know very well what to expect from the obsessed fans. 😉
Just to kill some of our free time today, lets make some of our own assumptions and predictions about the non-favorites’ placements this year. For example, I predict Iceland will earn a Top-15 finish, despite the doubts of many. The song is phenomenal, magical and echancting, the three sisters harmonize their voices impeccably and this aspect, combined with the wonderful musical background will definitely convince a lot of juries AND televoters to vote for them. I assume a top-15 with the juries (approximately 60 points) and a top-20 with the televote (around 35 to 50 points).
I could see Finland gettint some serious televote support, but maybe out of top 10
What do you predict for Portugal?
Especially with thst running order, yikes…. a top 15 but not higher, since the juries will definitely appreciate the song more than the public, which may forget it in the process.
I’m getting Ieva vibes from Maro, so a place around 10th is very likely. (Just as a reminder Ieva performed 4th and finished 12th btw.)
I think Lithuania will get somewhere between the top 15 and top 20, it’s one of my faves this year but I don’t see it inside the top 10 unfortunately 🙁
I’m not too sure about the Netherlands, there seems to be a lot of international support on YT and Spotify for the song since the semi final and it still growing. It’s so difficult to predict this year…
We have sure winner by 60%. Its a huge record. It will be the most expected winner in history. So, what is difficult to predict this year?
I’ll be voting for the Netherlands tomorrow, the song, her vulnerability, the simplicity of the staging – simply beautiful. Good luck from Ireland
The Netherlands weren’t my favorite before 1st SF, but after I saw her perform, she jumped right to my number 1 spot
It’s between Sweden, UK and Serbia are the front runners. I don’t think Ukraine will be winning. Bookies will be very pleased.
Ukraine will win. This contest is policital, believe it or not
Unfortunately, a sad day for music
Don’t want Serbia or Sweden to win. Serbia’s song is simply absurd
Totally agree
Such a shame it was my favourite. I would like to have seen more of Vladana though and less of the audience.
My biggest preferences (Serbia & Estonia) are in the last 2 places in the running order!
Godstrakta steadily climbing the odds today!
She just passed my country and I couldn’t have agreed more with that. 😀
The fact that I’m getting downvoted for liking the Serbian song more than our own (Greece), lmaoo.
As someone wrote somewhere here, we are bunch of ESC fans and votes can’t be based on our expectations, we see this compaction with different eyes. Facts in real life voting are much different. I do understand that Spain and UK are favorites, but fact is, regular people during tele voting will never vote for them. It’s just a fact, I don’t even remember when Spain or UK been in first 20. Even with the Jury vote, I don’t think it will be better for them; when Bony Tayler did not make an impact for the UK with ten times… Read more »
Thank you for your expert opinion on Bony Tayler and Channel. 🙄
I loved Bony Tayler and her song Belief In Me <3
Bony Taylor lol do they mean Bonnie Tyler
Bloody autocorrect ?
She is!!!
I absolutely agree. But you cannot explain it to the bubble. They still think someone will vote for UK and Spain. And they think Europe will pity vote Ukraine. And they think Poland is not flat. And they think Sweden is genuine and original. Ok. Let’s see.
San Marino and Israel deserved to be here imo.
Belgium, not so much.
Can’t wait for Italy being blasted by juries and receive 30 points from televote as they deserve. They will be the 2022 version of Malta and I am rooting to see their faces when they’ll get humiliated lol
Whoever comes second against to Ukraine , that is the winner of Eurovision Song Contest 2022.
Ok ruZZia supporter… we get it.
I support Ukraine about the conflict but Eurovision is something else
Jamie please fu ck off you nationalist
Bruh, not wanting Ukraine to win makes one necessarily a RuZZZia suporter
Then perhaps whoever comes 2nd have the rights to host it next year, because there is no way it will be held in Ukraine.
The winner will be between Ukraine and Sweden (not a huge fan of either so being impartial) with Netherlands and Italy as spoilers.
